A Reddit report dated October 12, 2026 says One UI 9 adds a horizontal taskbar-position control on a Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra, letting the tablet launcher sit in the center, on the left, or on the right in the standard tablet interface. The observation comes from one Samsung-loaned device and is not documented in the Samsung materials reviewed, so it should not be treated as a confirmed feature for every Galaxy tablet or region.

What the reported One UI 9 option does

The reported control changes where the taskbar appears along the bottom edge of a Galaxy tablet’s regular Android interface. With gesture navigation enabled, the author reports three choices: centered, left-aligned, or right-aligned. That gives the tablet a layout closer to a desktop launcher, particularly when a user wants the taskbar nearer to the hand operating the device or aligned with a preferred window-management layout.

The report uses the wording “change the taskbar position on tablets.” It does not establish whether the control is present on every One UI 9 tablet build, whether Samsung is enabling it by market, or whether the setting has a different name in other languages.

Navigation mode determines the available positions

The same report says the choices change when a tablet uses three-button navigation instead of gestures. The side on which the navigation buttons are placed appears to reserve that side, leaving two taskbar positions available.

Gesture navigation Center, left, or right
Three-button navigation with buttons on the right Center or left
Three-button navigation with buttons on the left Center or right

These combinations are observations from the single Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra report, not a Samsung-published specification. Samsung’s navigation-bar support documentation confirms that Galaxy Tabs can place navigation buttons on the left, center, or right, but it does not confirm the newly reported taskbar selector.

How this relates to the existing Galaxy tablet taskbar

Samsung describes the taskbar as a PC-like shortcut area for frequently used apps. Its support instructions say you can turn the taskbar on or off at Settings > Display > Taskbar. On tablets, Samsung documents up to four app slots. Apps can be added from the favorites bar, and an app can be dragged from the taskbar into Multi window to start split-screen or other supported multi-window arrangements.

The reported One UI 9 position control is separate from the existing auto-hide behavior. One UI 7 update notes for model SM-X306B describe the taskbar hiding while an app is open and reappearing after a slow swipe up from the bottom edge. Hiding and revealing the bar does not, by itself, indicate that a device has the new left-or-right placement option.

Does moving the taskbar also move it in DeX?

No, according to the October 12 report. The author says the position choice affects the normal tablet interface only; the DeX taskbar remains centered. DeX should therefore be considered a separate layout context when deciding whether the change meets your needs.

What One UI 9 rollout information actually confirms

Samsung Electronics America announced on September 16, 2026, that One UI 9 expansion had begun for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, S26+, and S26 after the software debuted on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8, and Z Flip8. That announcement provides smartphone and foldable rollout context, but it does not give a tablet rollout schedule and does not mention taskbar positioning.

Consequently, installing One UI 9—or seeing the rollout notice on another Galaxy device—does not prove that a particular tablet has the taskbar control. Availability may depend on the tablet model, software build, market, and Samsung’s staged distribution.

How to check your own tablet

  1. Open Settings and go to Display > Taskbar. Confirm that the standard taskbar is enabled.
  2. Check whether your tablet is using gesture navigation or three-button navigation under the navigation settings. Samsung’s navigation documentation allows the button group to be positioned on the left, center, or right on supported Galaxy Tabs.
  3. On a One UI 9 tablet build, look for a taskbar position control in the taskbar settings. The community report does not provide a universal menu path or exact label, so the wording may differ by build.
  4. If you use three-button navigation, note which side holds the buttons. The reported choices may exclude that same side.
  5. Test the standard tablet interface and DeX separately. A change visible in the tablet interface should not be expected to move the DeX taskbar.

If no position control appears, that is consistent with the limited evidence available: Samsung’s published taskbar support page does not list it, and the report covers only one identified device.

What remains unconfirmed

  • Whether the option ships on all Galaxy tablets that receive One UI 9.
  • Which tablet models, firmware builds, countries, or languages support it.
  • Whether the setting can show every open app or only the taskbar’s existing app shortcuts and recent-app behavior. The Reddit discussion raises that question but does not answer it.
  • Whether Samsung will add the control to its support documentation or change its behavior in later builds.

The practical takeaway is narrow but useful: a Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra user report indicates that One UI 9 may offer desktop-style left, center, and right taskbar placement in the regular tablet UI, with navigation-mode limits and no reported effect in DeX. Until Samsung documents the control for a specific model and region, treat it as a build-dependent feature to verify on the tablet itself.
