A community report says One UI 9 brings back the option to hide the taskbar in Samsung DeX on a Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra. The user says the option had been missing since One UI 7 and remained absent through One UI 8. Samsung has not officially confirmed this consumer setting, so treat the report as a device-specific observation—not a verified fix for every Galaxy tablet or DeX setup.
What the One UI 9 report says
The report describes the taskbar-hide option on a Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra in both standalone DeX and DeX connected to an external display. It characterizes the missing control as a regression that began with One UI 7 and says it returned in One UI 9. The report also notes a difference between tablets and phones, but does not establish a complete compatibility list.
The Tab S12 Ultra in the report was loaned by Samsung. That disclosure is relevant context for the observation; it does not change the fact that Samsung has not announced this specific consumer taskbar setting as a One UI 9 fix. Read the community report.

Who may see the setting
Samsung announced on September 16, 2026, that One UI 9 began expanding with Galaxy S26 models after debuting on the Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8, and Z Flip8. The company said rollout to other Galaxy devices would be gradual. That announcement does not establish availability on every tablet, in every region, or on every software build. - Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra: This is the device named in the community observation.
- Other Galaxy tablets: Samsung says supported Galaxy tablets can use DeX, but the reviewed documentation does not confirm that they all have this hide/show option.
- Galaxy phones: Do not assume the tablet report applies to phones; the report describes different scope, without a full compatibility matrix.
- External display: The reported option appeared in both standalone and external-display DeX on the named tablet. That is not proof of identical behavior on other models.
How to check your tablet and build
Because the community report does not provide an exact menu route, there is no verified universal path to the toggle. First confirm that your device has received One UI 9, then inspect DeX settings on that specific device and build. If the setting is absent, the report alone cannot establish whether your model is unsupported, your region or build differs, or Samsung has not made the option available there.
- Check your tablet’s installed One UI version and software build in its Settings app.
- Open DeX in the mode you use—standalone on the tablet or connected to an external display—and inspect its taskbar-related settings.
- If you use both modes, check each separately. The report describes both on one Tab S12 Ultra, but does not show that the settings are shared across devices or builds.
- If you cannot find the option, check Samsung’s updates and support information for your model and region rather than relying on a menu path from another device.
What changed in One UI 8—and what did not
Samsung’s DeX FAQ documents several One UI 8 changes, including allowing duplicate apps in the taskbar, separate settings for external displays, removing app folders from the DeX Apps menu, and changes to window-management behavior. Those documented changes help explain why users noticed a changed DeX experience, but they do not confirm that One UI 9 restored the consumer taskbar-hide control. Samsung DeX FAQ.

Do not confuse hiding the taskbar with Knox sizing
Samsung separately documents taskbar size controls for managed devices through Knox Service Plugin. Knox Platform for Enterprise 3.14 release notes, updated August 31, 2026, list Basic, Large, and Extra Large sizes. Samsung describes the feature as a way to display a larger taskbar for easier touch interaction.
