Short answer: On combat capability shown across the story, a defensible provisional order for the nine members covered by the available official character material is 1) Monkey D. Luffy, 2) Roronoa Zoro, 3) Sanji, 4) Nico Robin, 5) Franky, 6) Brook, 7) Tony Tony Chopper, 8) Nami, 9) Usopp. Jinbe is deliberately left unranked here because the primary material available for this edition does not provide a checked profile or feat comparison for him. This is an editorial interpretation, not an official One Piece power list.

Ranking cutoff: February 10, 2023 for the accessible official Bandai Namco character feature. That feature describes nine Straw Hats’ abilities and jobs, but it does not rank their fighting strength, does not include Jinbe, and cannot establish how later manga developments would change the order.

What “strongest Straw Hat” means here

“Strength” means reliable combat capability: performance against serious opponents, ability to change a fight, versatility, endurance and how consistently a character can use their techniques. It does not mean bounty, popularity, screen time, usefulness to the ship or total economic value.

The crew’s jobs are a separate measure. Navigation, medicine, archaeology, shipbuilding, cooking and music can decide whether the expedition survives even when those skills do not translate into a one-on-one duel. The official Bandai Namco feature makes that distinction clear by presenting each character’s occupation alongside selected powers. Its descriptions are game promotional material, not a comprehensive canon strength assessment.

Provisional ranking at a glance

Position Member Combat basis for the placement Primary crew role
1 Monkey D. Luffy Captain-level combat ceiling, elastic body and the broadest demonstrated ability to decide major fights. Captain and decision-maker
2 Roronoa Zoro Dedicated three-sword fighter with exceptional attack power, endurance and willingness to absorb damage. Swordsman and combatant
3 Sanji High-speed kick-based martial artist with strong mobility, durability and tactical versatility. Cook and combatant
4 Nico Robin Flower-Flower Fruit enables sudden restraints, holds and attacks from multiple angles; effectiveness depends on creating openings. Archaeologist
5 Franky Cyborg body, heavy weapons and shipwright engineering provide unusual durability and firepower. Shipwright
6 Brook Fast swordsmanship, an unusual body and music-based effects give him reach and disruption. Musician and swordsman
7 Tony Tony Chopper Doctor with multiple Human-Human Fruit forms; transformation choice creates a large but condition-dependent combat range. Doctor
8 Nami Weather knowledge and climate-based attacks can be extremely dangerous when she has the right setup. Navigator
9 Usopp Accurate long-range shooting and improvisation; strongest when distance, terrain and preparation favor him. Sharpshooter
Unranked Jinbe No checked primary profile and no verified comparison were available for this edition, so assigning a slot would be guesswork. Not assessed in the available material

The gaps are not equal. Luffy, Zoro and Sanji form a relatively clear top tier in the crew’s combat presentation. Positions four through nine are more matchup-dependent: terrain, preparation, distance and access to equipment can move a character several places.

1. Monkey D. Luffy

Luffy is the crew’s strongest overall fighter in this interpretation because he combines the highest combat ceiling with the broadest record of carrying decisive battles. His elastic abilities, identified in the Bandai Namco feature as powers gained from the Gum-Gum Fruit, allow him to attack from unconventional angles, absorb or redirect some impacts and keep fighting after punishment that would stop an ordinary human.

His captaincy is not counted as a combat bonus, but it explains why his fighting style is unusually adaptable: he repeatedly changes tactics when an opponent invalidates his first plan. That combination of durability, range, creativity and finishing power separates him from the rest of the crew. The exact size of his lead depends on which manga endpoint a reader uses, so this placement should not be treated as a permanent ranking after the February 2023 cutoff.

2. Roronoa Zoro

Zoro is the crew’s most clearly specialized combatant after Luffy. The official feature describes him as a three-sword fighter and one of the crew’s most powerful combatants. His entire training, equipment and tactical identity are built around defeating strong opponents at close range.

Attack power and endurance are the reasons he sits above the remaining crew. Zoro can commit to high-risk exchanges, continue after severe injuries and convert a brief opening into a fight-ending strike. He is less flexible than Luffy at long range and can be disadvantaged by mobility or an opponent who denies close contact, but those limitations do not outweigh his reliability in direct combat.

3. Sanji

Sanji occupies the other position in the crew’s top combat trio. He is a cook and a kick-based martial artist; the Bandai Namco description notes that he protects his hands because he needs them for cooking. That constraint makes his leg techniques, speed and movement central rather than incidental.

His placement reflects a balance of speed, striking power, aerial mobility and resilience. Sanji can reach targets that are difficult for a grounded swordsman to approach and can reposition quickly when a battle changes. Compared with Zoro, he generally trades some raw cutting power for speed and movement. The difference is close enough that a specific matchup, environment or story phase can reverse their order; the list is not claiming an official numeric gap.

4. Nico Robin

Robin’s Flower-Flower Fruit lets her make body parts blossom on surfaces and opponents. That power is exceptionally versatile: she can seize limbs, immobilize a target, create extra leverage or attack from an angle that a conventional fighter cannot anticipate.

She ranks ahead of the remaining specialists because a successful hold can end an encounter immediately, and because her ability works at several distances. The qualification is reliability. Robin needs a usable opening and enough control to complete the technique; opponents who are too fast, too durable or able to prevent her from establishing a hold reduce its value. Her archaeological expertise is vital to the voyage, but it is not included in this combat position.

5. Franky

Franky’s cyborg construction gives him a type of durability and firepower that no ordinary human crew member possesses. The official feature identifies him as the shipwright who builds and repairs ships and highlights his physical abilities. His body can support weapons, mechanical force and sustained punishment while still letting him perform technical work.

He ranks above Brook and Chopper in a neutral, prepared fight because he brings dependable toughness and built-in options rather than relying on a single narrow condition. Franky is not as agile as the crew’s fastest fighters, and his size can make stealth or tight spaces a problem. In a battle where machinery, ammunition or a specific device is unavailable, his effective tier can drop.

6. Brook

Brook combines skilled swordsmanship with the unusual advantages of a resurrected body. The official feature presents him as both musician and swordsman and notes that music can be useful in combat. That combination gives him speed, reach and disruption tools that do not resemble a standard fencing style.

His low weight and mobility make him difficult to handle in certain environments, while music can affect an opponent’s attention or state of mind when conditions allow. Brook is placed below Franky because his durability and stopping power are less consistent against heavily armored or exceptionally tough opponents. He can outperform this slot when speed, surprise or psychological disruption matters more than a prolonged exchange.

7. Tony Tony Chopper

Chopper is the crew’s doctor, and the official feature describes his Human-Human Fruit transformation. His different forms let him change size, strength and medical function for the problem in front of him. That range makes him more than a mascot or support character.

The reason he sits below Brook is dependence on form, timing and stamina. Chopper can become a serious close-range threat, but the strongest transformation is not always the safest or most sustainable option. In a rescue, medical emergency or fight where brute force is needed for a short window, he may be more valuable than this ranking suggests. Combat position and occupational value diverge sharply for him: losing the doctor would damage the crew’s long-term survival even if another member could win a duel.

8. Nami

Nami is the navigator, with weather-reading skill specifically highlighted in the official feature. Her combat value comes from turning environmental knowledge and climate effects into attacks rather than from physical strength.

She ranks eighth in a generic, unprepared duel because distance, setup and equipment matter so much. Given room to read conditions and deploy weather techniques, she can threaten opponents who would overpower her at arm’s length. On a ship, in changing weather or with time to prepare, her practical impact can exceed the position shown in this table. That is a matchup advantage, not evidence that navigation should be converted into a higher combat score.

9. Usopp

Usopp is the sharpshooter. Bandai Namco’s description emphasizes the accuracy of his slingshot, and his fighting identity is built around range, observation, traps and improvisation rather than direct exchanges.

He occupies the final numbered place only under the neutral assumptions used here: limited preparation, no guaranteed hiding spot and a fight that eventually closes distance. With terrain, planning and time to choose ammunition, Usopp can alter a battle before a stronger opponent reaches him. That conditional strength is why a simple ladder is misleading; his occupational specialty is precision under pressure, not standing toe-to-toe with the crew’s heavyweight fighters.

Why Jinbe is not assigned a rank

Jinbe is a current Straw Hat, but the material available for this article does not include a successfully checked official character profile or a verified story-feat comparison for him. The official character-search result could not be inspected, and the accessible Bandai Namco feature profiles nine characters rather than all ten current members.

Placing Jinbe above or below a named crew member would therefore turn an evidence limitation into a fabricated certainty. A complete future edition should verify his current canon abilities and relevant fights against primary story material, state a chapter cutoff, and then test him against the same criteria used for everyone else: opponent quality, versatility, endurance, range and dependence on conditions.

Combat strength and crew value are different rankings

A strength ladder answers “Who is most likely to win a difficult fight?” It does not answer “Who is most important to the voyage?” The Straw Hats need several noncombat specialties that cannot be replaced by punching harder.

  • Navigation: Nami’s weather reading and route decisions determine whether the ship reaches its destination.
  • Medicine: Chopper treats injuries and illness that no combat technique can solve.
  • Archaeology: Robin’s ability to interpret historical information gives the crew knowledge unavailable to the others.
  • Shipbuilding: Franky keeps the vessel functional and can create technical solutions during crises.
  • Cooking: Sanji supplies food and protects the hands required for that work while fighting with his legs.
  • Music and morale: Brook contributes performance and combat applications tied to music.
  • Leadership and frontline pressure: Luffy coordinates the crew while taking on the most consequential opponents.

These jobs explain why a lower combat placement is not a lower overall contribution. Removing the navigator, doctor or shipwright could end the voyage even if the remaining fighters were stronger individually.

How to use this ranking without overstating it

  1. Set the story endpoint. A manga development after February 10, 2023 can change a close placement.
  2. Separate direct evidence from interpretation. Character abilities and occupations are supported by the official feature; the order above is editorial.
  3. Check the matchup. Ask whether the fight rewards range, preparation, speed, durability or a particular environment.
  4. Keep Jinbe separate until verified. Do not treat an unfilled evidence gap as permission to guess.
  5. Do not use bounties as a proxy. The available sources do not establish a formula that converts bounty into combat strength.

Using the crew in an interactive game

ONE PIECE ODYSSEY is an official role-playing game that features Straw Hat characters and was listed by Bandai Namco for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. It can be a useful way to experiment with the crew’s abilities, but its mechanics are designed for a game and should not be read as an authoritative canon ranking.
