Googlebooks reportedly run the full desktop version of Chrome, including support for extensions—a change that could address one of the frustrations TechRadar writer Matt Hanson had with Chrome OS. That is his account from hands-on time with the new laptops, not proof that every extension works or that all Chromebook users shared the same complaint.
What issue is reportedly fixed?
In a September 21, 2026 report, TechRadar’s Matt Hanson said he opened Chrome on a Googlebook and found the full desktop browser, with extensions supported. His complaint was personal: he described Chrome OS’s browser as the mobile version and said it did not meet his own extension needs. The report does not establish how common that frustration is among users.
The distinction matters for people who rely on browser add-ons for work, accessibility, security, or everyday tasks. If the reported behavior holds for the extensions you use, Googlebooks may offer a more familiar desktop-browsing experience than Hanson found on Chrome OS. TechRadar did not test or list specific extensions, however, so compatibility should not be assumed. Read TechRadar’s report.

TechRadar describes Googlebook OS as a new desktop operating system that combines characteristics of Chrome OS and Android and is built on Linux. The report also mentions Android apps, phone-to-laptop continuity, a file browser with natural-language search, Linux containers, and Gemini features. It does not establish that every feature is available on every model, configuration, or in every region.

The perfect combination of performance, power consumption, and value helps your device handle multitasking smoothly and reliably with four processing cores to divide up the work.
Googlebooks are presented as a premium tier above budget Chromebooks and Chromebook Plus devices, not as replacements for those product lines. Google Senior Director of Laptops and Tablets Alex Kuscher described the aim as “a laptop that feels familiar to Android users,” according to TechRadar.

TechRadar identified five models in the first wave. Its report does not provide complete, comparable specifications for each one, so the list is not a recommendation or ranking.
