Yes, one appliance can make both espresso or espresso-style drinks and drip coffee—but “combo” covers very different designs. Some machines pair a pump espresso system with a full drip carafe; others add pod-based or espresso-style beverages to another coffee platform. Compare the brewing method, coffee capacity, milk workflow, controls, cleaning and counter footprint before you buy.
The models often discussed in this category illustrate the range rather than a tested ranking. De’Longhi lists the COM630BK as a 15-bar pump espresso machine combined with a full-capacity drip coffee maker. Its US product result showed $349.95 and “Out of stock” when checked in 2026; both details can change. Ninja describes the Luxe Café Pro ES701 as a four-in-one system for espresso, drip coffee, cold brew and independent hot water. Those descriptions do not establish that every combo machine makes traditional pump espresso, nor that one model tastes better than another.
What a combo espresso and coffee maker actually is
A combo machine combines two brewing paths in one housing. The espresso side may use a pump and portafilter, a capsule or pod system, or a process that makes a concentrated espresso-style drink. The coffee side generally brews a larger batch into a carafe, although some designs make only single cups. The word “espresso” in a product name therefore needs verification in the manufacturer’s documentation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsA pump specification is meaningful only when it belongs to the espresso circuit. De’Longhi’s COM630BK description specifically identifies a 15-bar pump and a full-capacity drip coffee maker. That is evidence of a pump espresso-and-drip configuration for that model, not a specification that can be applied to every appliance sold as a combo.

Concentrated coffee from a pod, capsule or pressure-assisted brewer can be useful for milk drinks, but it is not automatically equivalent to traditional pump espresso. Ask what coffee format the machine accepts, how the brew is produced and whether the manufacturer calls the result espresso, espresso-style coffee or a pod beverage.
Why people choose one appliance instead of two
Counter space and setup
A single chassis can leave more room than a separate espresso machine, grinder and drip brewer. It also gives a small kitchen one water reservoir, one power connection and one place to store the controls. Measure the machine with its lid, portafilter, carafe and water tank fully accessible; a narrow footprint is not helpful if the tank cannot be removed under an upper cabinet.
Different drinks in the same household
One person may want a concentrated drink while another wants a mug or a full carafe. A combo appliance can avoid running two brewing stations, provided its workflow lets you switch between modes without an inconvenient purge, filter change or reservoir refill.
The trade-off
Separate machines let you optimize each brewing method independently and replace one unit without replacing the other. They also consume more counter space, require more storage and create two cleaning routines. A combo is most compelling when space and shared convenience matter more than having a specialized setup for each method.

Ninja’s product page calls the Luxe Café Pro “an intelligent espresso & coffee system with 4-in-1 versatility (no guesswork espresso machine, well balanced drip coffee maker, rapid cold brew creator and independent hot water system)” and says it helps create café-quality drinks at home. That is the manufacturer’s marketing language, not a measured taste or performance result.
First decision: what kind of “espresso” do you need?
Traditional pump espresso
Choose this route when you want a portafilter-style workflow and the ability to work with ground coffee in an espresso basket. Confirm whether a pump is specified, whether the machine includes a portafilter and baskets, and whether a grinder is built in or required separately. The COM630BK is the only named example here whose cited description explicitly specifies a 15-bar pump.
Pod or capsule drinks
Pods make dosing and cleanup simpler, but they lock you into a format and a compatible supply. Check the exact pod standard, recycling instructions and whether the machine can also accept fresh grounds. Do not assume a pod beverage has the same extraction, body or control as pump espresso.
Espresso-style concentration
Some appliances use a different brewing process to produce a small, strong serving suitable for milk drinks. This can satisfy a household that mainly wants cappuccino-like beverages, but the product documentation should make the distinction clear. If the description never identifies the extraction method, treat “espresso” as an unresolved specification and ask the seller before ordering.
Second decision: single cup, carafe or both?
Single-cup espresso side
Espresso is normally prepared one serving at a time. Check whether the machine allows one or two shots, how the basket is sized and whether switching from the drip side requires moving a filter holder or portafilter.

Drip carafe side
A full-capacity carafe is useful for a household that drinks several mugs or serves guests. “Full-capacity” does not state a number of cups, so verify the manufacturer’s capacity in the current manual or product listing. Also check the minimum batch size: a brewer designed for a large carafe may be wasteful if you usually need one mug.

Two reservoirs or shared water
Some designs use a shared reservoir; others separate water paths. A shared tank simplifies filling but can make back-to-back brewing slower if the espresso side needs a different fill level. Separate tanks may reduce switching but occupy more space. Look for removable tanks, water-level markings and a lid that can be opened under your cabinets.
Milk preparation changes the daily workflow
Manual frothing
A steam wand or manual frother gives you control over texture, but it adds a heating, purging and wiping routine. After steaming, wipe the wand immediately and purge it according to the manual so milk does not dry inside the nozzle.
Included or adjustable frother
The BCO430BC description explicitly mentions an adjustable milk frother. That can reduce the equipment you need for cappuccino or latte-style drinks, but ask how the frother detaches, which parts are washable and whether milk remains in a tube or reservoir after use.
No milk system
A machine without a frother can still make espresso and drip coffee, but you will need a separate whisk, steam wand or other method for milk drinks. This is often the simplest arrangement to clean if most drinks are black coffee.

Extra modes: useful versatility or unused complexity?
The Luxe Café Pro ES701 is described as adding cold brew and an independent hot-water system to espresso and drip coffee. Those functions are valuable if you regularly make cold brew, tea or pour-over water. They add little value if your routine is limited to morning coffee and an occasional espresso.
- Cold brew: confirm the serving size, brew time and whether the process makes a concentrate or a ready-to-drink batch.
- Independent hot water: check whether it has a dedicated outlet and whether coffee flavor can transfer from a shared path.
- Multiple controls: make sure the display or dial exposes the settings you actually use rather than burying basic brewing behind menus.
How to compare models before buying
- Write down your real drinks for a week. Count espresso servings, milk drinks, mugs and full pots. Include weekend and guest use.
- Identify the required coffee format. Decide between fresh grounds, pods or both. A machine that cannot accept your preferred format is not a bargain.
- Verify the extraction claim. Look for an explicit pump, capsule system or other documented method. Do not infer it from a photograph or the word “espresso” alone.
- Check capacity in the current specification. Record reservoir size, carafe volume and the smallest practical batch. The COM630BK’s cited result confirms a full-capacity drip maker but does not give an exact cup count.
- Map the milk routine. Note whether frothing is manual, adjustable or absent, and list every part that must be rinsed after a milk drink.
- Measure the counter and storage. Include clearance for the water tank, filter basket, carafe lid and any portafilter handle.
- Price the complete setup. Add a grinder, filters, pods, milk accessories and descaling supplies when they are not included. Treat a listed price as a snapshot, not a permanent market price.
- Read the warranty and service terms. Confirm the region, coverage period, authorized service route and which removable parts are excluded.
- Check current availability. The COM630BK result was marked out of stock when accessed in 2026; availability can change by retailer and country.
Typical morning workflow and where combo machines differ
Making drip coffee first
Fill the reservoir, add the paper or permanent filter and ground coffee, position the carafe and start the drip cycle. If you then make espresso, allow for any required temperature transition and clean the shared brew area before switching.
Making espresso first
Prepare the basket or pod, lock it in place and brew the serving. For a milk drink, froth only after the coffee is ready unless the machine’s instructions specify another sequence. Empty the puck or pod, rinse the contact surfaces and then set up the drip side.
Serving both at once
Do not assume the two circuits can operate simultaneously. Look for an explicit simultaneous-brewing feature. If it is not documented, plan for sequential use and consider whether the wait fits your household’s morning schedule.

After every brew
- Discard the used grounds, puck or pod and rinse the basket or holder.
- Empty standing water from the drip area if the manual instructs you to do so.
- Wipe and purge a steam wand or rinse milk-contact parts immediately.
- Rinse the carafe and lid rather than leaving coffee residue overnight.
Regular tasks
Wash removable tanks, filter baskets, drip trays and frother components at the interval specified by the manufacturer. Descale when the machine signals or when the manual’s water-hardness schedule requires it. A combo machine may have separate cleaning programs for espresso and drip paths; run both rather than assuming one cycle cleans the entire appliance.

- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Common problems and checks
- Weak espresso-style drink: verify the selected mode, dose, grind or pod compatibility before blaming pump pressure.
- Drip coffee tastes stale: clean the basket, lid and carafe, then check whether old grounds or water remain in the path.
- Milk frother sputters: remove dried milk from the nozzle and confirm the intake tube is seated correctly.
- Machine will not switch modes: empty a full drip basket or portafilter, replace the carafe, and check that the reservoir and covers are fully seated.
- Longer-than-expected preparation: account for heating, flushing and cleanup between brewing systems; multifunction hardware does not guarantee two simultaneous drinks.
When separate machines are the better choice
Choose separate equipment when espresso quality and control are your primary concern, when several people need different drinks at the same time, or when you want to upgrade the grinder and espresso machine independently. Separate units also isolate failures: a broken drip brewer does not remove your espresso option.
A combo is the more sensible choice when one counter footprint, one purchase and a shared workflow outweigh maximum specialization. It is especially practical for households that alternate between a pot of coffee and occasional concentrated or milk drinks rather than preparing many espresso beverages every day.
What the available evidence can—and cannot—tell you
The cited material consists of manufacturer descriptions and an attributed editorial opinion, not hands-on comparative testing. It establishes the COM630BK’s stated 15-bar pump and full-capacity drip configuration, the BCO430BC’s adjustable frother, the existence of the COM532M as another all-in-one model, and the Luxe Café Pro ES701’s listed four modes. It does not establish extraction quality, temperature stability, durability, noise, cleaning effort, warranty satisfaction or a universal “best” model.
Use those descriptions to create a shortlist, then verify the current manual and regional product page for the exact configuration you will receive. Confirm whether accessories, baskets, filters, carafes and frothing parts shown in photographs are included in the box.
Bottom line: choose the workflow, not the word “combo”
A combo espresso and coffee maker is a space-saving compromise, not a single standardized product class. Start with the drink you call espresso, then confirm the brewing method, capacity and milk system. If you need a true pump setup, the COM630BK is the named example whose description explicitly says 15-bar pump; if adjustable milk frothing matters, the BCO430BC description calls it out; if cold brew and dedicated hot water are useful, the ES701 lists those modes. Prices, stock and configurations change, so check the current official listing before paying. The right choice is the machine whose documented workflow matches how your household actually brews.
