Choose the MacBook Neo if you carry your laptop often; choose an exact HP OmniBook 3 16-inch configuration if you need a larger screen, numeric keypad, and built-in USB-A and HDMI. Apple lists the Neo at 1.23 kg with a 13-inch display. The cited HP 16-inch models weigh about 1.64–1.65 kg, but OmniBook 3 specifications vary substantially by configuration, so the family name alone is not enough to make a fair comparison.
At a glance: portability or a bigger workspace?
| Factor | MacBook Neo | HP OmniBook 3 16-inch examples |
|---|---|---|
| Screen and weight | 13-inch display; 1.23 kg. | The cited configurations have 16-inch displays and weigh 1.64–1.65 kg. |
| Display examples | 13-inch, 2408 × 1506 IPS; Apple rates it at 500 nits. | The HP 16-bu0022ne has a 1920 × 1200 IPS panel rated at 300 nits. A separately reviewed configuration has an OLED panel. |
| Built-in connections | Two USB-C ports with different data speeds and a headphone jack; supports one external display up to 4K at 60 Hz. | The cited 16-bu0022ne has two USB-A ports, two USB-C ports, HDMI 2.1, and a headphone/microphone combo jack. |
| Operating system | macOS. | Varies by SKU: the cited 16-bu0022ne listing specifies FreeDOS 3.0; the reviewed Snapdragon model runs Windows on Snapdragon. |
The Neo is about 0.4 kg lighter than these cited OmniBook configurations. That difference can matter if you carry a laptop between classes, meetings, or home every day. The HP’s larger display and, in the cited configurations, numeric keypad can be more useful when you spend longer working at a desk or enter numbers frequently.
Check the exact OmniBook 3 configuration first
“OmniBook 3” is a family name, not a fixed specification. The official HP regional listing for the 16-bu0022ne (DF7N8EA), accessed October 13, 2026, describes an Intel Core 7 350 model with 8 GB DDR5 memory, a 512 GB SSD, a 16-inch 1920 × 1200 IPS display rated at 300 nits, and a 41 Wh battery. HP lists its weight as 1.64 kg and battery life as up to nine hours. This is a Middle East regional configuration; those details should not be generalized to every OmniBook 3.

Windows Central reviewed a different 16-inch OmniBook 3 with a Snapdragon X processor, 32 GB RAM, a 1 TB SSD, an OLED screen, and a 68 Wh battery. That unit weighed 1.65 kg. The review also discusses more modest 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, IPS configurations. The OLED display and 68 Wh battery are therefore attributes of the reviewed unit, not universal features of the family.

A third example illustrates why model numbers matter: TechRadar reported a U.S. sale price for an Intel Core 5 315 model with 8 GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD on October 1, 2026, and said it could not find a review of that exact configuration. Its specifications and offer should not be treated as equivalent to either of the other HP examples.
What each laptop is better suited to
Choose MacBook Neo for frequent carrying and macOS
- Smaller and lighter: At 1.23 kg and 13 inches, the Neo is easier to fit into a smaller bag and carry throughout the day than the cited 16-inch HP models.
- Brighter rated display: Apple specifies a 500-nit IPS screen. The cited HP 16-bu0022ne IPS screen is rated at 300 nits. These are manufacturer specifications, not results from a controlled, side-by-side brightness test.
- Apple software and setup: The Neo runs macOS. It is the natural fit if your required apps and school or work tools support macOS and you prefer that operating system.
- External display support: Apple specifies support for one external display up to 4K at 60 Hz.
Apple estimates up to 16 hours of video streaming and up to 11 hours of wireless web use for the Neo. These are separate Apple estimates, not a single runtime figure or a direct comparison with HP’s claim.

Choose an appropriate OmniBook 3 for screen space and direct connections
- More room on screen: A 16-inch display may be more comfortable for working with documents or multiple windows, though the panel resolution, brightness, and type depend on the SKU.
- Numeric keypad: The cited HP configurations include a numeric keypad; Windows Central’s reviewer found it useful for productivity.
- USB-A and HDMI without an adapter: The cited 16-bu0022ne includes two USB-A ports and HDMI 2.1 alongside two USB-C ports. That is convenient if your everyday peripherals use older USB connectors or you regularly connect to a display by HDMI.
- Potentially different Windows options: Confirm whether the particular model includes Windows. The official 16-bu0022ne listing specifies FreeDOS 3.0, while the separately reviewed Snapdragon configuration runs Windows on Snapdragon.
For the 16-bu0022ne, HP lists up to nine hours of battery life with a 41 Wh battery. The Windows Central reviewer reported “full — and I mean full — days of mixed use without needing a charge” with the separate 68 Wh Snapdragon/OLED unit. That is an observation about one reviewer’s use of that configuration, not a battery-life guarantee for the product family. Neither claim is a controlled head-to-head result against the Neo.

The cited HP 16-bu0022ne has USB-A and HDMI built in, which can avoid carrying a hub for common peripherals and external displays. The Neo has two USB-C ports, but they are not identical: Apple rates one for USB 3 speeds up to 10 Gb/s and the other for USB 2 speeds up to 480 Mb/s. It also has a headphone jack. If your setup depends on USB-A accessories or HDMI, account for the cost and convenience of a USB-C hub when deciding whether the Neo is practical for you.

Price and value depend on the SKU and sale date
The cited price examples are historical and refer to different configurations, so they cannot establish which laptop is cheaper now or offer better value at today’s local prices.
- Windows Central cited a $399 Walmart price for a 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, IPS OmniBook configuration in its review context. This is a price reported at the time of writing, not a current offer.
- TechRadar reported a $449.99 sale price from HP U.S. on October 1, 2026, for a different Intel model with 8 GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD. TechRadar noted it could not find a review of that exact model.
Before buying, compare the same-day price for the exact local SKU, including its memory, storage, panel, battery, and included operating system. A low advertised price does not tell you whether the model has the display or software you need.
A practical way to make the choice
- Decide where you will use it most. If you carry it frequently, the Neo’s 1.23 kg weight and 13-inch footprint favor portability. If a roomy display and numeric keypad matter more, consider a 16-inch OmniBook.
- Check the full HP model identifier. Verify the processor, RAM, storage, display type and brightness, battery capacity, ports, and included operating system. Do not assume a listing for one OmniBook 3 describes another.
- Match the operating system to your work. Confirm that your required apps, school or workplace tools, and connected devices work with macOS or with the specific Windows setup offered. If an HP listing says FreeDOS, do not assume it comes with Windows.
- List the peripherals you connect. The cited HP SKU provides USB-A and HDMI directly; the Neo may need a USB-C hub for those connections.
- Compare current local prices for like-for-like needs. Include any hub or other necessary accessories and weigh them against the exact configuration rather than a family name or an old deal.
Verdict
For a laptop that is easier to carry, the MacBook Neo is the practical choice among the cited configurations. For a larger workspace, numeric keypad, and built-in USB-A and HDMI, a suitably equipped OmniBook 3 16-inch model may be more practical at a desk. The right choice depends on the exact HP SKU, its operating system and panel, and the current price where you live; the available figures do not establish a controlled performance, battery, durability, or display winner between matched models.
