Silca has relaunched the Omata One as a limited-run analog GPS cycling computer, now hand-assembled in Indianapolis. The $800 device keeps the original concept—GPS and sensor data moving physical hands around a watch-style dial—while adding a redesigned circuit board, battery system, housing, weather seals and mounting cleat.
What the updated Omata One does
The Omata One records a ride with GPS while presenting the most useful live metrics on an analog dial. Its hands show current speed, ride distance, accumulated ascent and ride time. Instead of drawing data on an LCD, a custom Seiko-developed mechatronic movement converts digital measurements into physical needle positions.
Ride files can be exported as standard FIT files for training platforms and Strava workflows. The cited product information does not describe live mapping or turn-by-turn navigation, so this is a ride-data instrument rather than a navigation computer.
What changed under Silca
New electronics and battery system
Silca redesigned the circuit board and battery system for this production run. The company lists USB-C charging and up to 17 hours of battery life. “Up to” is Silca’s stated maximum, not a guaranteed duration under every GPS, sensor or temperature condition.

Improved weather protection
The housing now uses a triple-barrier lip seal around the rotating bezel. A Gore-Tex membrane covers the barometric-pressure sensor, allowing pressure measurement while helping protect the sensor from water intrusion. The housing itself is machined 6063 aluminum.
Reworked mounting cleat
The redesigned cleat is intended to work with Garmin and Wahoo-style interfaces, broadening compatibility with common road and gravel-bike mounts. Silca also includes its Chisela 3D-printed titanium mount with the purchase.

Sensor connectivity changed
The current version supports ANT+ sensors. Bikerumor reports that Bluetooth sensor compatibility is no longer offered, so riders should check that their heart-rate strap, cadence sensor or power meter can transmit ANT+ before buying.

Launch availability was reported in the United States. Production is limited because the design depends on a finite supply of discontinued Seiko components. That constraint makes this a finite-edition product rather than a computer Silca can manufacture indefinitely.

How the Omata fits a normal ride
- Charge it over USB-C. Silca lists up to 17 hours of battery life, so charge before longer rides and allow for the effect of sensor use and cold conditions.
- Install the included mount. Use the Chisela mount or a compatible Garmin- or Wahoo-interface mount, then secure the computer according to that mount’s instructions.
- Pair ANT+ sensors if needed. Heart-rate, cadence and power sensors must provide ANT+ transmission. Bluetooth-only sensors will not provide the reported connection.
- Start the GPS ride recording. The hands then present speed, distance, ascent and elapsed ride time while the GPS track is recorded in the background.
- Export the FIT file after the ride. Use the supported iOS workflow to move the recorded file into the training or Strava service you use.
Analog display versus a conventional GPS computer
| Decision factor | Omata One | Conventional screen computer |
|---|---|---|
| Display philosophy | Physical hands and a watch-style dial; readable at a glance without a digital screen | Digital screen with configurable pages, text and graphics |
| Navigation | No live mapping is described in the cited information | Depends on model; many offer maps or turn guidance |
| Sensor connectivity | ANT+ support; Bluetooth support reportedly removed | Varies, commonly ANT+, Bluetooth or both |
| Battery claim | Up to 17 hours | Varies by model and settings |
| Data | GPS recording and FIT export | Usually GPS recording with configurable analytics |
| Price | $800 | Varies widely by model |
| Availability | Limited run tied to discontinued Seiko components | Typically ongoing production, depending on model |
The Omata’s appeal is therefore deliberate and specific: a mechanical-looking instrument that supplies core ride metrics without the visual character of a small computer screen. Riders who depend on maps, extensive data fields or Bluetooth-only accessories should treat those omissions as buying constraints, not minor details.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is an $800 analog bike computer worth it?
It makes sense for riders who value
- An analog, watch-like object instead of another rectangular screen on the handlebar.
- Immediate speed, distance, ascent and time readings with background GPS recording.
- Machined aluminum construction, a Seiko-developed movement and hand assembly in Indianapolis.
- ANT+ training sensors and FIT-file workflows.
- The collectability of a product made from a finite supply of legacy components.
Look elsewhere if you need
- Live maps, turn-by-turn navigation or a large configurable data display.
- Bluetooth sensor pairing.
- Confirmed Android compatibility; the cited listing names iOS but does not state Android support.
- A lower-cost computer with broadly available replacement inventory.
Silca CEO Josh Poertner described the product as “a masterpiece of functional art” and said the company acquired Omata because it was a product that should continue to exist. That positioning explains the price: the Omata is both a GPS instrument and a specialty mechanical object. No independent durability or performance test is established here, so buyers should judge its value from the design, feature set, connectivity requirements and limited availability rather than assume test-proven advantages over conventional computers.
