OMNIVISION’s OG12S10 pairs 12-megapixel resolution with 3.45 µm backside-illuminated pixels and a global shutter, targeting machine-vision systems that need to image moving objects. The company lists a maximum 75 frames per second, but only at 10-bit output; its higher-bit-depth modes run slower. The OG12S10 is an image-sensor component, not a finished camera, and its performance figures are manufacturer specifications rather than independent test results.
What is the OMNIVISION OG12S10?
Announced on October 5, 2026, the OG12S10 is a 12MP backside-illuminated (BSI) CMOS image sensor with a global shutter. OMNIVISION positions it for factory automation and intelligent transportation systems. Its product page also lists 3D machine vision and industrial barcode scanning as target applications. These describe intended uses; they do not establish deployment in a particular customer system.
The sensor outputs 4096 × 3072 pixels. OMNIVISION describes its optical format as 1.1 inches in the announcement, while the product page specifies 1/0.904-inch. Because those descriptions differ, confirm the format and optical requirements in the current product documentation before selecting lenses or designing around the sensor.

How does the global shutter help capture motion?
A global shutter exposes the image’s pixels at the same time, rather than capturing different rows at different moments. That synchronized exposure can reduce the skew or geometric distortion that rolling-shutter sensors may show when objects or cameras move during capture.
OMNIVISION staff marketing manager Kelly Yan said global-shutter sensors address motion-related distortion by capturing each frame with synchronized exposure. That is the company’s explanation, not an independent test of the OG12S10. A global shutter does not by itself guarantee a blur-free image: exposure duration, lighting, lens performance, object speed, readout configuration and system integration still affect image quality.

How fast is the OG12S10?

These are manufacturer-listed sensor specifications, not independently measured results from a complete camera. The 75 fps figure is not the rate for every mode; a design requiring HDR or higher bit depth should use the rate for that mode when estimating throughput.

Frame rate and exposure time are different
Frame rate is how often the sensor produces frames. Exposure time is how long it collects light for an individual image. OMNIVISION lists a minimum exposure of 1 µs, but that does not mean the sensor necessarily captures 75 frames per second at that exposure, nor that a real system will freeze motion under all conditions. Frame timing, the selected mode, available illumination and the motion being imaged all matter.

OMNIVISION says the Nyxel figures represent a fivefold quantum-efficiency boost compared with an existing 3.45 µm product. These measurements and comparisons are manufacturer claims; the available sources do not provide independent validation or a head-to-head test. NIR efficiency figures may be relevant when designing around infrared illumination, but they do not alone establish system-level image quality.

The sensor’s published interface and package details are starting points for system design, not a compatibility guarantee for a particular camera or board.

- Data interface: OMNIVISION lists 16-lane sub-LVDS up to 1.1 Gbps and four-lane MIPI. Confirm which interface and configuration are supported by the current product guide.
- Bit depth and speed: Match the required frame rate to the selected output mode; the maximum listed rate is 75 fps at 10-bit.
- Optics: Resolve the optical-format difference between the announcement and product page, and check the lens and image-circle requirements.
- Package: The listed package is ceramic land-grid array (CLGA); verify board and assembly requirements.
- Lighting and motion: Assess whether the exposure and illumination available in the target environment can capture the required detail at the object’s speed.
The sources identify the OG12S10 as a sensor component but do not name a finished camera containing it. A camera, lens, lighting and processing pipeline must be evaluated as an integrated system.
When is the OG12S10 expected to be available?
In its October 5, 2026 announcement, OMNIVISION said samples were expected to be available in November 2026 and mass production was planned for Q4 2026. Those are announced future schedule dates, not confirmation that either milestone has occurred. Check the manufacturer’s product page or contact OMNIVISION for current availability.
