To control how Windows synchronizes Offline Files when a user logs off, deploy the device-scoped ADMX-backed policy ./Device/Vendor/MSFT/Policy/Config/ADMX_OfflineFiles/Pol_SyncAtLogoff_2 through an Intune custom OMA-URI profile. Set the policy to Enabled for full synchronization or Disabled for quick synchronization. Leaving it Not configured keeps quick sync as the default and lets users choose the method. A configured policy also locks the related Offline Files option in the user interface.
Choose the logoff synchronization behavior
The policy controls the synchronization method at logoff; it does not turn the Offline Files feature itself on or off. Microsoft’s separate Pol_Enabled policy controls whether Offline Files is enabled. The setting discussed here is Synchronize all offline files before logging off, found in Group Policy under Computer Configuration > Network > Offline Files.
| Policy state | Logoff behavior | User control |
|---|---|---|
| Enabled | Full synchronization. Microsoft says this ensures offline files are complete and current. | The policy disables the corresponding method option in the Offline Files tab. |
| Disabled | Quick synchronization. Microsoft says this ensures files are complete, but does not ensure they are current. | The policy disables the corresponding method option in the Offline Files tab. |
| Not configured | Quick synchronization is the default. | Users can change the method through the Offline Files tab. |
The practical distinction is freshness versus user choice: full sync aims to leave cached files current, while quick sync does not guarantee currency. The documentation does not establish a specific performance cost for either method, so choose based on the freshness requirement rather than assuming a particular speed impact. See Microsoft’s Policy CSP – ADMX_OfflineFiles.
Deploy the device policy with Intune
The relevant device-scoped Policy CSP URI is ./Device/Vendor/MSFT/Policy/Config/ADMX_OfflineFiles/Pol_SyncAtLogoff_2. For an Intune custom OMA-URI profile, use this URI and supply the state as a string payload in the expected SyncML format. The policy is ADMX-backed and requires <Format>chr</Format>; the policy URI identifies the setting, while the XML represents its state.

- Confirm target support. Check that the Windows version and edition on assigned devices are supported before deployment.
- Create or edit the Intune custom OMA-URI profile. Add the device-scoped URI above, configure the data type as a string, and provide the payload for the required state.
- Assign the profile to the intended device group. This is the device-scope policy node, so use it for device assignment.
- Verify deployment. Confirm the policy’s reported value and device applicability in the target tenant. Microsoft documents the CSP and SyncML contract; it does not provide a step-by-step Intune portal walkthrough for this setting.
Microsoft’s general ADMX-backed policy guidance uses an <enabled/> element for Enabled and <disabled/> for Disabled. To return the policy to Not configured, send a Delete operation for the policy URI rather than treating Not configured as a third enabled/disabled XML state.
<enabled/>
<disabled/>
For exact ADMX-backed SyncML conventions, consult Microsoft’s Understanding ADMX-backed policies. Supply the XML using the string format expected by the MDM profile, and verify the resulting policy state after assignment.

Understand scope and policy precedence
The corresponding user-scoped node is ./User/Vendor/MSFT/Policy/Config/ADMX_OfflineFiles/Pol_SyncAtLogoff_1. Microsoft lists _1 as user scope and _2 as device scope. When both user and computer settings are configured, the computer setting takes precedence. For an Intune deployment intended to manage a device’s logoff behavior, the device URI ending in _2 is the relevant node.
Check Windows applicability before assigning
Microsoft’s CSP documentation lists the following minimum supported releases and editions for the device policy. The Windows 10 entries require the specified cumulative update and build or later; confirm current support for your fleet before rollout.

The equivalent setting is in Computer Configuration > Network > Offline Files in Group Policy. Microsoft’s mapping identifies the registry key as SoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftWindowsNetCache, the value as SyncAtLogoff, and the ADMX file as OfflineFiles.admx. For Intune policy deployment, use the documented CSP URI and SyncML state rather than substituting the registry mapping for that URI.
