Official Pokémon sources do not specify how many Mew exist in the Pokémon universe. The Pokédex identifies Mew as #0151, the “New Species” Pokémon, but gives no population figure. That leaves a clear answer to the count question: it is unspecified in the official sources cited here—not one, not many, and not a number that can be inferred from game rules.
What the official Pokédex says about Mew
The official Pokédex entry for Mew lists it as #0151, Psychic type, in the “New Species” category, with gender unknown. It describes the Pokémon, but does not say how many exist. A Pokédex profile is not a census of the fictional world.
Why game numbers do not answer the lore question
Some Pokémon game details contain numbers or limits that can sound like clues about Mew’s population. They describe gameplay and hardware, not the number of Mew in the story.

Pokémon’s Let’s Go completion guidance says the first 150 Pokémon, from Bulbasaur through Mewtwo, are needed for the game’s stated Pokédex completion. It also says Mew, Meltan, and Melmetal do not count toward the final tally. This is a rule for completing those games’ Pokédex—not a claim that only one Mew exists, or that the fictional population has a particular size.

Poké Ball Plus transfer limit
Pokémon Support’s Poké Ball Plus instructions say that the Mew on the accessory can be transferred one time into a single compatible Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! game. Afterward, it is no longer available on that accessory to transfer to another game. That restriction applies to one accessory’s transfer, not to Mew’s fictional population.
So, is there only one Mew?
The official sources cited here do not establish that there is exactly one Mew, nor do they give evidence for a larger total. “Mythical,” a Pokédex completion rule, or a one-time transfer limit cannot be used to calculate how many Mew exist in the Pokémon universe. The accurate answer is that the number is unspecified.

What the Mew card collection can—and cannot—tell you
Pokémon’s Mythical Pokémon Collection—Mew product page documents a trading card collection launched on February 22, 2016, with a full-art promo card, collector’s pin, two Generations booster packs, and an online code card. That is a merchandise release, not a statement about Mew’s population. The page’s launch date also does not establish that the collection is currently available.
