Yes—later breakage has still been reported, but the available evidence does not show how often it happens. A Best Buy reviewer said one Elite Strap cracked after 14 months of light use. That is an individual account, not a representative failure-rate study. Meta/Facebook traced some early complaints to a manufacturing processing inconsistency in 2020, but that history does not establish that every strap was affected or that current straps cannot break.
What later reports say about breakage
A Best Buy review describes the right arm of an Elite Strap cracking after 14 months of light use. The reviewer also expressed concern about earlier cracking reports. This establishes that at least one later customer report exists; a retail review cannot show how common the problem is among Quest 2 owners because it does not provide a representative sample or denominator. There is no current, representative breakage-rate statistic in the available sources. It would therefore be inaccurate to describe the problem as either widespread or fully resolved, or to assign it a percentage.

In December 2020, after investigating customer quality complaints and resuming shipments, Facebook said some early Elite Strap and Elite Strap with Battery units had a manufacturing processing inconsistency. A Facebook spokesperson described the reports as a “small number,” but that phrase is company wording, not a published failure rate. The company announced two-year replacement coverage at that time. In an earlier response reported by UploadVR, a Facebook spokesperson said the company was investigating reports of cracking or breaking and encouraged affected owners to contact Oculus Support about a refund or replacement. Does the old replacement coverage apply now?
Do not assume that the 2020 two-year announcement automatically applies to a strap bought later, in every region, or under every warranty arrangement. Coverage depends on the specific purchase and its terms.

A Meta Store complaint page includes a company response dated September 8, 2026. In that customer’s case, Meta said Warranty Plus covered the Quest 2 and accessories included in the original package, but not a separately purchased Elite Strap with Battery. - Identify the exact accessory. Check whether yours is the Elite Strap or the Elite Strap with Battery, and whether it was purchased separately or included with a headset bundle.
- Gather purchase details. Have your receipt, purchase date, region, and any applicable warranty or protection-plan information available.
- Contact Meta Support for a case-specific decision. Ask whether your strap and purchase qualify for repair, replacement, refund, or other coverage. The historical announcements and another customer’s Warranty Plus response cannot decide your case.
- Check the seller’s terms if you bought it through a retailer. Retail return or warranty options may depend on the seller and purchase date; do not treat a product listing as proof of official Meta replacement coverage.

What to check when choosing a replacement strap
If you decide to replace the accessory, verify that it is explicitly compatible with Quest 2 and check whether it includes an integrated battery. Also review fit and comfort information, return terms, and seller support. The available evidence does not provide controlled durability comparisons among replacement straps, so treat unsupported long-term durability claims cautiously.
