Can you identify the location in NASA Earth Observatory’s October 2026 Satellite Puzzler? The scene shows short, pale rocky ridges radiating from a central point across an orange-and-tan desert. NASA has not disclosed the answer in the challenge prompt, so the location remains for readers to guess.
What does the October 2026 satellite puzzle show?
NASA Earth Observatory describes the image as “Several short, light-colored rocky ridges radiate out from a central point amid an orange and tan desert landscape.” The challenge is to identify where the scene is and share the clues behind your guess. The description is NASA’s caption; it does not establish what formed the ridges or identify the place.
Consider what the image itself suggests: the ridges’ direction and arrangement, their contrast with the surrounding terrain, and the colors and patterns elsewhere in the scene. Those are prompts for visual reasoning, not confirmed geological or historical clues.

How do you submit a guess?
- Open NASA’s challenge page and use its response form.
- Choose “Puzzler Answer” and enter a preferred name or alias.
- Share a location guess. NASA welcomes a simple answer; explaining the clues you noticed is optional.
What can a detailed answer include?
If you want to go beyond a location guess, NASA invites technically detailed responses that discuss possible satellite and instrument identification, spectral bands, or geological and historical details. These are optional avenues for respondents to explore, not acquisition facts NASA has established in the challenge text.
When will NASA reveal the answer?
NASA says it plans to add the answer at the top of the challenge page about a week after the puzzle appears and link to an Image of the Day story. The timing is approximate. The challenge page is dated October 6, 2026; check it for the update rather than treating the location or image-acquisition details as known before NASA publishes them.
