Ocean Outlast is an expert Minecraft modpack built for Forge 1.12.2. The current listed release is V79A, and the reliable way to run multiplayer is to install that exact client release and pair it with the matching V79A server pack. Allocate 7 GB of RAM as a starting point, keep every player on the same pack and Forge version, and do not add unsupported mods while troubleshooting.
What Ocean Outlast is
Ocean Outlast, created by KevskyBoy, takes the progression style of a skyblock-inspired pack and places it in a vast ocean world with randomly generated islands. Its progression combines technology, magic, exploration, quests and dungeons rather than focusing on a single mod or dimension.

The quest book is central to the experience. The project description lists more than 1,900 quests, which function both as objectives and as tutorials for the pack’s mechanics. New players should follow the quest lines instead of treating the pack as an ordinary survival world; many systems are introduced through staged tasks and rewards.
Current Minecraft version and available files
Ocean Outlast uses Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge. The client and server are separate downloads, so choosing a file with a similar name is not enough: the release identifier must match on both sides.

| File | Minecraft and loader | Date listed | What it means |

| Ocean Outlast V79A | Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge | October 9, 2024 | Current listed client release in the project metadata |
| Ocean Outlast V79A Server Pack | Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge | October 9, 2024 | Server files intended to pair with V79A clients |
| Ocean Outlast Server V.67 | Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge | September 11, 2023 | Older generation; the indexed ZIP is OceanOutlastServer67.zip and is 354.47 MB |
Use V79A for a new installation unless you have a specific reason to preserve an older V.67 world. Do not combine a V.67 server directory with V79A clients, or copy a newer server pack over an established older world without a backup and a deliberate migration plan.
RAM, performance and practical requirements
The author recommends allocating 7 GB of RAM to Ocean Outlast. The project information says the pack can run with 5 GB, but random lag spikes may occur at that allocation. Treat 7 GB as a starting point, not a performance guarantee: render distance, Java configuration, other applications and the number of connected players all change the actual requirement.
Recommended Free Tools
| Allocation or size | How to interpret it |
|---|---|
| 7 GB | Author’s recommended starting allocation for the pack |
| 5 GB | Reported as able to run, with possible random lag spikes |
| About 300 mods | The pack’s approximate mod count; many are included for performance improvements or fixes |
Leave memory for the operating system and background applications rather than assigning all physical RAM to Minecraft. On a server, the required headroom also depends on the world, chunk loading and concurrent players. Increase allocation only after observing memory pressure; more RAM by itself cannot fix a mismatched mod list, an unsuitable render distance or a CPU bottleneck.
Install the client with CurseForge
CurseForge is the documented installation route for the pack. Install the client first, even when your ultimate goal is to host a server; a working client gives you a known-good reference for testing the server files.

- Explore randomly-generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in Creative Mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armour to fend off the dangerous mobs
- Open the CurseForge application.
- Use Browse or Discover to search for Ocean Outlast.
- Open the pack entry and click Install.
- Wait for the launcher to finish downloading and assembling the profile.
- Open My Modpacks, select Ocean Outlast, and launch it.
- When the launcher asks for a game profile, confirm that it is the Forge profile for Minecraft 1.12.2.
Allow the first launch to finish loading before changing graphics settings or adding worlds. A long first startup is normal for a large pack. Once the title screen appears, create or open a test world and confirm that the quest book, menus and expected Forge mod list load without errors.
Prepare a matching server
A server should be built from the server pack that has the same release label as the client. For the current release, download the Ocean Outlast V79A Server Pack from the pack’s files page. The indexed files confirm that this archive exists, but they do not publish the exact startup-script names or pack-specific Java flags; use the files supplied in the archive instead of copying commands from another modpack.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Validate the client first. Launch the V79A 1.12.2 Forge profile and reach the game menu. This separates client-download problems from server problems.
- Create a clean server directory. Use a new folder dedicated to this server. Keeping it separate from other Forge installations prevents old libraries, configs and worlds from being loaded accidentally.
- Unpack the matching archive. Extract every file from the V79A server pack into that directory. Preserve the folder structure and do not merge it with the older V.67 ZIP.
- Use the supplied Forge startup files. Run the launcher or script included in the archive. If the pack offers more than one startup option, inspect its readme or comments and choose the option appropriate to your operating system.
- Complete the first run. The normal Minecraft server first-run process creates files and stops until you accept the EULA. Open the generated EULA file, change the acceptance entry as required by its terms, save it, and start the server again.
- Set memory for the intended player count. Begin with enough headroom for the pack and the operating system; the author’s 7 GB client recommendation is a useful starting reference, not a published server capacity guarantee. Apply any memory values through the supplied startup file rather than inventing pack-specific flags.
- Configure the server. Set the server name, world and gameplay options in the generated configuration files. Add a whitelist or permissions system before inviting people who should not have unrestricted access.
- Test locally. Connect from the same machine or local network first. Confirm that the world loads, quests are present and a player can travel between islands before exposing a public address.
- Open it to remote players only after the local test. Configure the host firewall, router forwarding and backups according to your network and operating system. These network steps are independent of Ocean Outlast and must be secured before publishing the address.
Keep the original downloaded archive and a clean copy of the server directory. They make it easier to compare files after an update and to recover from an accidental configuration change.
Make client and server versions agree
Every connecting player should use the same Ocean Outlast release and the same Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge profile as the server. The separate client and server release structure makes exact matching more important than merely choosing the same Minecraft version.
Rank #3
| Symptom | Likely cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Missing-mod or handshake error during connection | Client and server use different pack releases, Forge builds or mod files | Compare the release label, reinstall the matching client profile and rebuild the server from the corresponding server pack |
| Server starts but a player’s world behaves differently | The player has a different configuration or an unsupported extra mod | Return to a clean profile and compare the client’s files with the server pack before changing the world |
| Players connect locally but not over the internet | Firewall, router or host-network configuration | Keep the pack unchanged and troubleshoot the network path separately |
Do not ask players to “try a newer Forge” as a first fix. Change versions only when the pack’s own files identify a different supported build; otherwise, restore the documented 1.12.2 Forge profile.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting
Self-hosting gives you direct access to the world, configuration, backups and server files. Managed hosting can remove operating-system maintenance, but the provider must support this older Forge environment and allow the supplied server pack to be imported. A hosting panel listing the pack does not, by itself, establish support for every release or an endorsement by the pack author.
| Decision factor | Self-hosted server | Managed host |
|---|---|---|
| Setup effort | You install Forge files, configure the machine and manage networking | The panel usually handles the machine and basic service controls |
| File and configuration control | Full access to the server directory, scripts, configs and backups | Depends on file access, panel restrictions and the provider’s import process |
| Memory planning | You choose hardware and reserve RAM for the operating system | Choose a plan with enough advertised memory and verify how the host measures it |
| Player capacity | Limited by your CPU, memory, storage and internet connection | Limited by the selected plan and the provider’s Forge support |
| Latency | Depends on your home or office upload connection and location | Choose a data-center region close to most players |
| Backups and persistence | You design and test the backup schedule | Confirm retention, restore access and whether backups include the entire world and config |
| Pack import | Use the exact V79A server archive directly | Confirm that the host accepts the supplied Forge 1.12.2 server pack rather than only a catalog shortcut |
For either approach, ask the same pre-purchase questions: Is Forge 1.12.2 supported today? Can you upload the supplied V79A server files? How much usable RAM is included? Are automated backups restorable by the customer? Which region serves your players? Answers to those questions matter more than a generic “modpack hosting” label.
World generation: why an island may look ordinary
The author identifies the world type as Default. A newly generated world can therefore look like a normal large island or ordinary terrain at first glance; that appearance does not prove that generation failed. Before deleting the world, confirm that the correct pack profile and server files are loaded, then explore and follow the quest progression.

- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world full of surprises.
- SURVIVAL ADVENTURES — Face mysterious foes, travel across varied landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
- PLAY TOGETHER — Play solo or join friends in local split-screen and cross-platform play across console, mobile, and PC. Online multiplayer supports up to 8 players.
- COMMUNITY PLAY — Connect with players on community servers, or subscribe to Realms Plus (sold separately) to play with up to 10 friends on a private server.
Do not replace the world generator or add terrain mods as a visual fix. Changing generation settings after a world has been created can produce inconsistent terrain and makes support harder.

The project warns that the pack does not support added mods. Extra jars can alter recipes, world generation, networking or startup behavior, so remove additions before reporting a problem.
The project specifically notes a conflict involving VintageFix when Essentials is used: remove VintageFix in that situation. Treat this as a targeted compatibility instruction, not as permission to experiment with other additions. First reproduce the issue with an unmodified Ocean Outlast installation.

The client will not launch
- Confirm that the profile is Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge, not a vanilla or different-version profile.
- Use the CurseForge-installed profile rather than copying individual mods into another instance.
- Check that the system has enough free memory for the author’s recommended 7 GB allocation plus the operating system.
- Remove every extra mod and retest before changing pack files.
Random lag spikes occur
- If the client is allocated only 5 GB, move toward the author’s 7 GB starting point when the machine has sufficient physical memory.
- Lower render distance and close other memory-intensive applications.
- Test whether the problem occurs in a fresh world; do not assume a world-generation fault from one slow area.
- On a server, check concurrent players and loaded areas as well as memory usage.
Players receive missing-mod or handshake errors
- Verify the exact release label on both ends: V79A clients require the V79A server pack.
- Verify Minecraft 1.12.2 and the Forge profile.
- Remove unsupported additions and reinstall a clean client profile if necessary.
- Do not mix files from the V.67 server ZIP with the V79A installation.
The server stops during first startup
- Read the generated console message and confirm that the EULA acceptance step has been completed.
- Run the startup file supplied by the server archive, not a script copied from another pack.
- Check that the server directory is writable and that the archive was fully extracted.
- If the error remains on a clean installation, use the project’s Discord for questions or GitHub for larger bugs and suggestions, as the author directs.
License and redistribution
The Ocean Outlast license permits reuse of the pack’s configurations, scripts, exact mod list and quests. It does not permit reuse of custom assets such as quest icons, logos and backgrounds.

- SURVIVE THE ADVENTURE — Face mysterious foes, travel across exciting landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
- PLAY TOGETHER — Play cross-platform with friends in Bedrock Edition on console, mobile, and PC, or join community servers in Java Edition on PC, Mac, and Linux. Online console multiplayer requires a platform-specific subscription (sold separately).
A server operator can therefore distribute the permitted configuration material while retaining or omitting custom visual assets according to the license. Before publishing a mirror, modpack derivative or hosted download, preserve the license terms and do not bundle restricted artwork as if it were reusable code.
Operating checklist for a stable server
- Record the release label and Forge version in the server notes.
- Keep the V79A server archive and a clean extracted copy separate from the live directory.
- Back up the world, configs and permissions before updates or major configuration changes.
- Require players to use the same V79A client profile.
- Test changes locally before opening the server to the public address.
- Keep unsupported mods out of the installation; use a clean copy when diagnosing faults.
- Verify that backups can actually be restored, not merely that they are being created.
- Document who has operator privileges and use a whitelist when the server is private.
Where to get help
For ordinary setup questions, the project points users to its Discord community. For larger bugs or suggestions, it points to GitHub. Include the Ocean Outlast release, Minecraft and Forge versions, the exact server or client log excerpt, and whether the problem reproduces on an unmodified installation. That information lets others distinguish a pack defect from a local configuration or unsupported-mod issue.
The Bottom Line
Install Ocean Outlast V79A through CurseForge on Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge, allocate about 7 GB of RAM to start, and build multiplayer from the matching V79A server pack. Keep clients and server identical, avoid added mods, and test a clean local connection before inviting remote players.
