NVIDIA has announced DLSS 5 as a real-time neural-rendering model and lists Hogwarts Legacy and Where Winds Meet among its planned games. However, the official announcement does not verify claims that DLSS 5 is 30% faster, uses 20% less VRAM, or launches in November. NVIDIA gives only a broad “this Fall” arrival window.
What NVIDIA actually announced about DLSS 5
In its March 16, 2026 GeForce News announcement, NVIDIA describes DLSS 5 as a real-time neural-rendering model. It takes a game’s color data and motion vectors for each frame, then uses an AI model to add photoreal lighting and materials anchored to the game’s original 3D content. NVIDIA says this treatment remains consistent from frame to frame.
That description concerns image generation and visual fidelity. It is not an independent benchmark and does not, by itself, establish a specific frame-rate or memory improvement.

Yes, both games appear on NVIDIA’s announced DLSS 5 support list. They are listed alongside titles such as Starfield, Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Resident Evil Requiem.
#1 Best Overall
- AI Performance: 767 AI TOPS
- OC mode: 2632 MHz (OC mode)/ 2602 MHz (Default mode)
- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
The announcement does not provide a separate rollout date for either game. NVIDIA says DLSS 5 will arrive “this Fall,” but that wording is a seasonal window rather than a confirmed November launch. It also does not say whether every listed game will receive support on the same day.
Does DLSS 5 run 30% faster?
The reviewed DLSS 5 announcement does not establish a 30% performance increase. No named test result, test system, resolution, graphics preset, game build or comparison baseline is provided to support that percentage.

A 30% figure may have been attached to headlines that combine separate NVIDIA announcements, but it should not be presented as a verified DLSS 5 measurement. Actual gains, if reported later, would depend on the game, rendering settings, resolution, GPU and implementation.

That 20% figure is also not established for DLSS 5 in the official announcement. NVIDIA does not publish a DLSS 5 VRAM result or explain a test methodology for such a reduction there.

Readers should distinguish a memory-saving claim from lower image-buffer requirements, texture usage or overall game memory consumption. Those are different measurements, and none is quantified for DLSS 5 in the announcement.
DLSS 5 versus the separate DLSS 4 Frame Generation announcement
The likely source of confusion is NVIDIA’s January 30, 2025 announcement about DLSS 4. That release describes an upgraded DLSS Frame Generation AI model and says it boosts performance and reduces VRAM use on GeForce RTX 50-series and RTX 40-series GPUs. It does not identify those qualitative improvements as DLSS 5 and does not support assigning the exact 30% and 20% figures to DLSS 5.

| Item | DLSS 5 announcement | DLSS 4 announcement |
|---|---|---|
| Primary description | Real-time neural rendering that adds lighting and materials to game frames | Upgraded Frame Generation AI model plus enhancements to DLSS technologies |
| Inputs or focus | Per-frame color and motion vectors, anchored to source 3D content | Frame Generation improvements |
| Performance claim | No exact percentage stated | NVIDIA says performance is boosted; the reviewed source gives no 30% figure |
| VRAM claim | No exact reduction stated | NVIDIA says VRAM use is reduced on RTX 50 and RTX 40 series; no 20% figure is established here |
| Named games and timing | Hogwarts Legacy and Where Winds Meet are planned; arrival stated as “this Fall” | The reviewed announcement is not the source for DLSS 5’s game roster or fall timing |
| DLSS 5 hardware requirements | Not stated in the announcement | The cited DLSS 4 statement refers to RTX 50 and RTX 40 series GPUs |
What remains unknown before launch
- Which GeForce RTX generations will support DLSS 5.
- Whether support requires a particular driver, game patch or operating-system version.
- Measured frame-rate changes at specific resolutions and quality modes.
- Measured VRAM changes and the conditions used to calculate them.
- Individual release dates for Hogwarts Legacy, Where Winds Meet and the other listed games.
Until NVIDIA publishes technical requirements or independent testing appears, buyers should not choose a graphics card—or estimate an upgrade’s value—using the unverified 30% and 20% figures.
What to watch for when DLSS 5 support arrives
- Check the game’s official patch notes for a DLSS 5 option and any stated GPU requirement.
- Update the graphics driver recommended by NVIDIA or the game developer.
- Compare the same resolution, preset, ray-tracing settings and frame-generation options before and after enabling DLSS 5.
- Record both average frame rate and frame-time consistency; a visual-rendering model can change image quality without producing a fixed performance gain.
- Monitor dedicated GPU memory in the same scene rather than relying on a headline percentage.
For now, the defensible conclusion is limited but clear: DLSS 5 is an announced neural-rendering technology with planned support for both named games, while its exact speed, VRAM impact, hardware support and per-game launch dates remain unspecified.
