The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro has the higher advertised display refresh rate and a newer listed processor, plus a periscope camera system with 3.5x optical zoom and an “up to 140x” ultra-zoom claim. The standard Phone (3a)—not the 3a Pro—has a 120 Hz display and Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. Nothing’s published prices are from different markets and configurations, so they do not establish a reliable price difference between the two.

What is the difference between the Phone (3a) and Phone (4a) Pro?
Display: 144 Hz versus 120 Hz
Nothing lists adaptive refresh rates of 144 Hz for the 4a Pro and 120 Hz for the 3a. The 4a Pro therefore has the higher advertised maximum. That number alone does not show how noticeable the difference will be in everyday use; the manufacturer specifications do not provide a matched real-world viewing test.

Processor: a newer listed platform in the 4a Pro
The 3a uses a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, while the 4a Pro lists a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. The model name indicates a different, newer-numbered platform for the 4a Pro, but no comparable independent benchmarks were verified here. Do not treat the specification alone as proof of a particular gaming, app-launch or sustained-performance advantage.

Cameras: optical zoom is not the same as 140x zoom
Nothing lists a 50 MP main camera with OIS for the 3a. For the 4a Pro, it specifies a 50 MP OIS Sony main camera and a periscope system with 3.5x optical zoom. Its “up to 140x ultra zoom” is a manufacturer headline; it should not be read as 140x optical magnification or as proof that images at that range retain equivalent detail. The published specifications do not establish which phone takes better photos in independent testing.
Battery and charging: capacities vary by 4a Pro market
The 3a lists a 5,000 mAh battery and 50 W charging. Nothing gives the 4a Pro a 5,080 mAh battery in the US configuration and 5,400 mAh in India only; both models are listed with 50 W charging. Capacity figures by themselves do not establish longer battery life, and the different regional 4a Pro figures should not be treated as one universal specification.

Durability: an IP65 claim for the 4a Pro
Nothing states that the 4a Pro is IP65-rated and says it was tested under 25 cm of water for up to 20 minutes. That is not a claim that the phone is waterproof. The cited Phone (3a) material does not establish a durability rating, so this comparison cannot support a like-for-like rating verdict.

What is the Phone (3a) vs Phone (4a) Pro price difference?
A definitive difference cannot be calculated from the available official price examples: they are not for the same country, date and storage configuration. Nothing Europe’s comparison page lists the standard Phone (3a) starting at €329, but that page was crawled about a year before the October 2026 research date, so verify the amount before treating it as current. The US Nothing storefront displayed the Phone (4a) Pro 8+128GB at $419 against a $499 comparison price; the UK storefront showed £519. These are regional storefront observations, not directly comparable quotes or guaranteed lasting prices.

For a meaningful price difference, compare both phones in the country where you will buy them, at the same time and with the storage capacities you actually want. Check the final retailer price and note whether tax, a promotion or availability affects the amount. Nothing’s European Phone (3a) page, US Phone (4a) Pro page and US phones collection provide the cited examples, but they do not create a like-for-like price comparison.
Which is better: Nothing Phone (3a) or Phone (4a) Pro?
The specifications make the 4a Pro the more feature-forward option on paper: it lists a higher refresh rate, a different processor platform, a periscope camera with 3.5x optical zoom and an IP65 rating. The standard 3a has a 120 Hz display, a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, a 5,000 mAh battery and 50 W charging. Which is better value depends on the actual same-market prices and which features matter to you; these specifications do not establish a universal winner.

- Favor the 4a Pro if its advertised higher refresh rate, newer-numbered processor, optical zoom system or stated IP65 rating matters to you—and confirm its price and configuration in your region.
- Consider the 3a if its listed display, processor, camera details and charging meet your needs and its verified local price makes it the better fit.
- Before paying extra for either model, look for independent, comparable tests of sustained performance, camera results, battery endurance and durability. Manufacturer pages specify features but do not settle those real-world comparisons.
What Nothing’s published specifications do—and do not—show
Nothing’s product page also says the Phone (4a) Pro has the company’s “lowest ever carbon footprint for a Nothing smartphone at just 50.5 kg CO₂e” and that 46 components containing recycled materials account for 16.6% of total weight. These are manufacturer-published figures, not independently verified findings, and do not determine which phone is the better buy.
