Nothing OS 5.0, based on Android 17, began its general-release rollout to the Nothing Phone (3) on October 12, 2026. To check now, open Settings > System > System update. The rollout is phased, so the update may not appear on every eligible phone at once.
What the Nothing Phone (3) update includes
Nothing describes OS 5.0 as the full experience, combining Android 17 with changes to the Nothing Launcher, design, personalisation, Glyph features, Essential tools and system performance. The company announced that the general release was rolling out to Phone (3) on October 12, 2026. Nothing’s community announcement and OS 5.0 feature page provide the release details.
Visual changes and personalisation
Nothing lists wallpaper-aware colours, tinted app icons, transparent widgets, a new Geist typeface and updated icons. Settings, Camera, Gallery and the Status Bar also receive refreshed layouts. Personalisation additions include Gooey and Micrographics clock faces, Collector stickers and Away Time, which tracks breaks.

The update adds a Glyph Timer and a Glyph app for centralised Glyph controls. Nothing also describes Smart Collections and improved search and capture flows in Essential Space, improvements to Essential Voice, and the ability to build Essential Apps from natural-language descriptions. System changes include redesigned Bluetooth controls and batch editing on the home screen.

Android 17 features and performance claims
Android 17 features highlighted by Nothing include separate Notification and Quick Settings panels, a Quick Share option using a QR code or web link for sharing with iPhones and other devices, and improved privacy indicators and permission controls. Nothing also claims improvements to app launches, scrolling, touch response, multitasking and memory management; it does not provide benchmark figures in the release material, so these are qualitative claims rather than measured speed gains.
How to check for the update
- Connect your Phone (3) to Wi-Fi.
- Open Settings > System > System update.
- Check whether Nothing OS 5.0 is offered, then follow the phone’s on-screen instructions if you choose to install it.
This is the release-specific route in Nothing’s Phone (3) announcement and Phone (3) support guidance. Nothing says the phone also notifies you when a software update is available. Its general support instructions give a separate manual check at Settings > About phone > Software info; when an update is available, a red icon appears next to the Nothing OS label. That alternate route is a general support instruction, not a replacement for the release announcement’s System update path. See Nothing’s software-update support page.

If Nothing OS 5.0 does not appear yet
An empty update check does not by itself mean your Phone (3) is ineligible. Nothing says availability can vary by region and device, and its OS page says rollout timing is indicative and phased by region and carrier where applicable. Check again later rather than treating the first result as a final decision.

Nothing’s published material does not establish a complete per-region schedule, a stable-release build number or a download size. It therefore cannot confirm exactly when a particular handset will receive the update.

Install carefully and know what may arrive separately
Nothing recommends downloading the latest software over Wi-Fi. During the upgrade, do not press the power button or perform other actions; leave the phone to complete the installation. Follow any instructions displayed by the device.
Not every named feature necessarily becomes available at the same moment as the OS update. Nothing says Essential Space updates are delivered separately through Google Play, with some pieces scheduled after general release. Access to Essential Apps Builder is in early beta and rolling out gradually. These qualifications concern feature availability; they are not a statement that the stable general release is beta software.
