If a Nothing OS update is stuck downloading or installing, start with the four conditions Nothing identifies for an OTA (over-the-air) update: a stable Wi‑Fi connection, sufficient free storage, at least 40% battery, and no interaction with the phone while the upgrade runs. For the safest retry, charge to 50%, back up important data, start the update at Settings > System > System updates, and leave the phone undisturbed. If the same error remains, contact Nothing Support with the exact message and your phone’s software details.
What “stuck” means in Nothing’s instructions
Nothing calls a system update an OTA upgrade. Its support guidance covers both a package that will not finish downloading and an installation that will not complete. The documented causes and checks are practical rather than model-specific: network quality, available storage, battery level, and whether the phone was used during the upgrade.
A download that stops or fails can be related to the network. Nothing explains that “An unstable network may cause the downloaded upgrade package to be damaged or incomplete.” That is why the first retry should use a reliable Wi‑Fi connection instead of repeatedly starting the same download on a poor signal. Nothing’s instructions do not establish a maximum download time, so a briefly motionless progress indicator is not, by itself, proof that the update has failed.
Prepare the phone before trying again
Protect your data and remove the common conditions that can block an OTA before you press the update button.

Step 1: Retry over stable Wi‑Fi
Open the update screen
- Connect the phone to a stable Wi‑Fi network.
- Open Settings.
- Tap System, then System updates.
- Start the available update again and allow the phone to check or download the package.
That menu path is given in Nothing’s articles How to upgrade the software system online? and How do I check for and install software updates?. If Wi‑Fi itself is unreliable, fix that connection first rather than assuming the phone’s update mechanism is defective. Nothing’s cited instructions do not designate mobile data as the preferred replacement for Wi‑Fi; they specifically call for Wi‑Fi.
Step 2: Make enough storage available
An OTA needs room for the installation package as well as the system’s existing files. Nothing does not publish a universal number of gigabytes for this requirement, so do not treat a made-up threshold as an official rule.

What to remove
Use the phone’s storage-management screen to identify large videos, downloads, duplicate photos, or apps you no longer need. Move or delete only personal content you have verified is backed up. If the storage screen shows that space is not the problem, leave system files and update data alone.
What not to infer
A download that fails is not proof that the phone needs a factory reset or that a particular cache folder should be deleted. Nothing’s OTA instructions only require sufficient free storage; they do not direct users to erase system or update data. After making reasonable space, return to Settings > System > System updates and start a fresh retry.
Step 3: Charge to the safer battery level
Nothing’s support pages use two battery thresholds. The dedicated failure pages say the phone needs at least 40%—one wording says “no less than 40%,” while another says “more than 40%”—or the OTA will not be allowed. The general installation guidance instead recommends at least 50% for a smooth download and installation, or keeping the phone connected to a charger.

The pages do not explain whether the difference depends on a phone model, Nothing OS version, or a regional rollout. Do not read it as evidence that 40% is always sufficient for every installation. Charge to 50% when possible, or use a charger that is compatible with your specific Nothing phone. A charger only helps meet the power condition; it does not repair a damaged download or solve an unrelated installation error.

Step 4: Start the OTA and do not interrupt it
Leave the controls alone
Once the update begins, do not open apps, press the power button, change settings, or otherwise use the phone. Nothing specifically instructs users to wait patiently and avoid other actions during the upgrade. Plan for the device to be unavailable while the installation runs.
Understand the normal restart
The phone normally restarts as part of installation. Seeing a restart does not mean the update failed. Allow the device time to boot and finish its post-installation work before trying to operate it.

If you interrupted the process
If you used the phone or otherwise interrupted the upgrade, Nothing’s remedy is to restart or perform the upgrade again. Re-establish Wi‑Fi, verify the battery and storage conditions, return to the system-update screen, and begin another uninterrupted attempt. The official pages do not provide a timeout value or a rule that a paused progress bar must move again within a particular number of minutes, so avoid forcing a shutdown solely because progress appears temporarily unchanged.

Stuck while downloading
Prioritize the connection and storage checks. A weak or unstable network can produce an incomplete or damaged package, while insufficient free space can prevent the package from being saved. Switch to stable Wi‑Fi, make reasonable room for the package, and initiate the download again from Settings > System > System updates.
Stuck while installing
Confirm that the phone reached the safer 50% preparation target or remains connected to a compatible charger, then repeat the installation without touching the device. A restart during this phase is expected. Nothing does not publish a universal duration after which an installation should be declared failed, so use the on-screen result or error message rather than an invented time limit.
Repeated OTA upgrade failure
After a stable-network retry with sufficient space, adequate power, and no interruption, further identical attempts are unlikely to add useful information. Record exactly what the screen says and move to support instead of experimenting with unapproved system modifications.
When to contact Nothing Support
Contact Nothing Customer Support if the update still will not download or install after the documented checks and an uninterrupted retry. The Support Centre provides the support route and asks for error details. Include enough information for the agent to distinguish a download problem from an installation problem:
- The exact on-screen error text, copied rather than paraphrased.
- Your Nothing phone model.
- The current Nothing OS version, if the phone still displays it.
- Whether the failure occurs during downloading, verification, installation, or the restart.
- What happened immediately before the failure, including any interruption.
- That you tried stable Wi‑Fi, checked free storage, met the battery requirement, and retried without using the phone.
Nothing’s published guidance does not promise a response time or a particular repair path. Support may need additional device-specific information, so preserve the exact wording and timing shown on the phone rather than guessing at a cause.

The cited Nothing instructions do not present factory resetting, manually flashing firmware, installing a third-party update package, or taking the phone to an unauthorised repairer as equivalent OTA troubleshooting steps. Those actions can erase data or introduce new software risks. Do not escalate to them merely because a progress indicator paused; first complete the network, storage, battery, and interruption checks and then use Nothing Support for a persistent failure.
A concise decision path
- Wi‑Fi: Connect to stable Wi‑Fi and reopen Settings > System > System updates.
- Space: Confirm there is enough free storage; the official guidance gives no universal numeric minimum.
- Power: Charge to 50% where possible, noting that failure pages describe a lower 40% eligibility threshold.
- Retry: Start the OTA and do not touch the phone while it downloads, installs, and restarts.
- Escalate: If it fails again, send Nothing Support the exact error, model, OS version, failure stage, and steps already completed.
This sequence follows Nothing’s published OTA instructions and keeps the remedy proportionate: correct the conditions that can block an update, avoid interrupting the installation, and obtain device-specific help when those measures do not work.
