The memory stock is SK hynix Inc., a South Korean semiconductor maker whose American Depositary Shares trade on Nasdaq under the ticker SKHY. Its clearest share story is in high-bandwidth memory (HBM), a type of DRAM used alongside AI accelerators—not across every memory market. Dated figures relayed by SK hynix show it led HBM shipments in Q2 2025 and HBM revenue in Q3 2025, but those are different measures from different quarters, not a single current market-share figure.
The investment case has strengthened with record company-reported results for Q2 2026 and the start of HBM4 mass shipments. Those facts support interest in SK hynix; they do not establish that its growth, margins, or market position will persist.
What does “gaining share” mean for SK hynix?
Memory market share is not one number. A company can have different shares of HBM shipments, HBM revenue, DRAM, and NAND. Shipment share counts units shipped; revenue share measures sales value and can move differently because products have different prices and configurations. A percentage should therefore be read with its product category, denominator, and measurement period.

SK hynix’s January 5, 2026 outlook page relayed Counterpoint Research estimates of 62% of HBM shipments as of Q2 2025 and 57% of HBM revenue as of Q3 2025. These are third-party figures reported by the company, not a fresh SK hynix market-share disclosure. The quarter and metric differ, so the two percentages should not be combined or treated as a direct trend line.

Those figures support the narrower claim that SK hynix held a leading position in HBM in 2025. They do not establish that it was gaining share in every memory category, nor do they provide a current 2026 share figure. The available evidence also does not independently verify a specific HBM4 production-share claim.
Why is SK hynix drawing attention now?
Record results in Q2 2026
In a preliminary release dated July 29, 2026, SK hynix reported revenue of 79.3187 trillion won and operating profit of 60.5426 trillion won for Q2 2026, describing both as quarterly records. The company attributed the performance to high-value products—including HBM, AI-server DRAM, and enterprise SSDs—amid demand for AI infrastructure.

- KLEVV is a premium memory brand introduced by Essencore, a global memory product and solution company. Especially well-received in the high-performance gaming memory market, popular among consumers for its quality, performance, and design. Established in 2014, Essencore distributes memory ICs from SK Hynix, a global semiconductor manufacturer, and produces KLEVV memory using SK Hynix's ICs, which is sold under its own brand. Since its launch, KLEVV has been highly regarded by users worldwide for its high-performance memory and SSD products.
- Overwhelming Performance Improved DDR5 Memory: KLEVV DDR5 memory module delivers starting speed at 5600MT/s, 75% faster than DDR4.
- Lower Voltage, Highly Improved Performance Built-in PMIC: While achieving 20% lower power consumption compared to DDR4 memory, DDR5 memory can reduce dynamic voltage and increase power efficiency, enabling for better power distribution.
- Next Generation Performance DDR5: The data bus channel of existing DDR4 memory module is designed to exchange data in a 64-bit single channel, but DDR5 module allows 32-bit data to be exchanged with dual channels. You can also use only one of the two memory channels to increase memory access efficiency as well as the transfer speed.
- Fixing Issue from the Chip Itself Improving Stability through On-Die ECC: On-Die ECC (On-Die Error Correction Code) inside the chip allows single-bit correction. It improves application security by enhancing overall data reliability.
That is strong evidence of the company’s recent financial performance, not a forecast. One exceptional quarter cannot show whether memory prices, margins, or customer demand will hold up through a full cycle.
HBM4 shipments and customer agreements
SK hynix said HBM4 mass shipments began in Q2 2026, with production expected to ramp in the second half of the year. It also reported finalized long-term agreements with around 10 customers. These are company statements about its shipments, production plans, and contracts; they are not independent confirmation of future volumes, revenue, or profitability.

New-generation memory can strengthen a supplier’s position if it can qualify products, manufacture them at scale, and meet customer requirements. A planned ramp is not the same as a completed one, and agreements do not by themselves guarantee the timing or economics of future deliveries.
How does SK hynix differ from Micron and Sandisk?
The companies offer different ways to gain exposure to memory demand. SK hynix and Micron are associated with DRAM, including HBM; Sandisk is characterized in the cited Motley Fool article as a NAND-focused storage company. That distinction matters: an HBM thesis is not interchangeable with a NAND or storage thesis.

| Company | Relevant exposure in the cited material | Evidence and limits |
|---|---|---|
| SK hynix | HBM, AI-server DRAM, NAND, and enterprise SSDs | Company-reported Q2 2026 results and HBM4 shipment start; Counterpoint HBM share estimates for Q2 and Q3 2025 relayed on the company’s January 5, 2026 outlook page. |
| Micron | DRAM and HBM exposure | The cited Motley Fool article compares the company’s valuation with SK hynix and Sandisk; the source set does not provide a corresponding Micron earnings figure or market-share measure for this comparison. |
| Sandisk | NAND and storage, as characterized by the cited Motley Fool article | The source set does not provide a directly comparable operating result or market-share figure for Sandisk. |
This is a product-exposure comparison, not a like-for-like ranking. The available figures do not establish comparable current market shares or financial results for all three companies.
What do the valuation figures say—and not say?
A Motley Fool article dated October 9, 2026, citing Marketscreener, gave forward earnings multiples of five times for SK hynix, six times for Micron, and seven times for Sandisk. These were estimates in that article’s snapshot, not durable facts or a guarantee of future returns. Forward multiples depend on share prices and forecast earnings, both of which can change; the figures alone do not show whether a stock is cheap or expensive.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What could weaken the investment case?
- Memory cyclicality: Memory demand, pricing, and profitability can change over time. A record quarter does not establish that elevated results will continue.
- Execution risk: The HBM4 ramp depends on production and delivery execution; the company’s stated plans are not proof that the ramp will meet expectations.
- Customer and demand concentration: Long-term agreements with around 10 customers indicate commercial commitments, but the release does not disclose enough detail to calculate how much future revenue they secure.
- Changing supply and competition: Share can shift as suppliers add capacity, qualify newer products, and compete for customer programs. The dated 2025 HBM estimates do not settle the competitive picture in 2026.
- Forecast and valuation risk: Forward earnings multiples depend on analyst estimates. If earnings expectations change, a low-looking multiple can change quickly or prove misleading.
How should a reader assess the claim?
- Identify the market: Ask whether a share claim refers to HBM shipments, HBM revenue, DRAM, or NAND.
- Check the period and source: Treat the 62% shipment figure as a Counterpoint estimate for Q2 2025 and the 57% revenue figure as a Counterpoint estimate for Q3 2025, both relayed by SK hynix in January 2026.
- Separate results from expectations: The Q2 2026 revenue and operating profit are company-reported preliminary results; the second-half HBM4 ramp is a company plan.
- Compare the business mix: Decide whether the thesis is specifically about HBM and DRAM or about NAND and storage, rather than treating all memory exposure as equivalent.
- Recheck volatile figures: Market share, quotes, and forward valuation estimates can change. The dated figures above should not be read as current prices or live 2026 share data.
SK hynix may deserve a place in the conversation alongside Micron and Sandisk because of its HBM position, product mix, and reported results. Whether SKHY suits any investor depends on the price, the durability of earnings, and the risks that investor is willing to take; the evidence here is not individualized investment advice.
