Choose Norton 360 Standard if you also want a VPN and Dark Web Monitoring, or need coverage for up to three devices. Norton’s pages differ on AntiVirus Plus device limits, so confirm the exact allowance and renewal price shown for your region and selected offer before buying.
What changes between AntiVirus Plus and Norton 360 Standard?
Both plans include antivirus and malware protection, foundational scam protection, Safe Web, Safe SMS, Deepfake Protection, Norton Genie, a password manager, and 2 GB of cloud backup in Norton’s feature comparison. Standard’s main additions over AntiVirus Plus are a VPN, Dark Web Monitoring, and coverage for more devices.

Feature details are from Norton’s plan comparison; AntiVirus Plus backup and password-manager details are also stated on its product page. Norton describes AntiVirus Plus as foundational protection and says Norton 360 provides “a more comprehensive solution for the protection of your devices and your activity online.” That is Norton’s positioning, not an independent finding about protection quality.

Which plan should you choose?
Choose AntiVirus Plus for one device and core protection
If your priority is antivirus, malware and scam protection on a single device, AntiVirus Plus is the simpler fit. It includes the shared features in the table, including 2 GB of backup, but not Norton’s VPN. Check the specific offer carefully: Norton’s comparison matrix says one device, while the AntiVirus Plus FAQ describes a single-device subscription or an option for up to five devices, depending on the subscription.

Choose Standard for a VPN, Dark Web Monitoring or more devices
Standard is the closer match if you want Norton’s VPN or Dark Web Monitoring, or need coverage across three devices. It does not increase the listed cloud-backup allowance over AntiVirus Plus: both show 2 GB in Norton’s comparison matrix.
Consider Deluxe for a household or parental controls
If you need five-device coverage, more backup, or parental controls, compare Norton 360 Deluxe as well. Norton lists five devices, 50 GB of cloud backup, VPN, Dark Web Monitoring, Privacy Monitor, and Parental Control for Deluxe. The additional features may matter more than moving from AntiVirus Plus to Standard if your primary need is broader household coverage.

What do the plans cost?
Norton’s U.S. Standard product page, accessed October 7, 2026, displayed $39.99 for the first year and a $94.99 renewal price, with a three-device allowance. These are volatile offer-specific prices, not universal rates; Norton’s pages can display different offers, and local pricing and terms may vary.

Treat those figures as the article’s dated vendor comparison, not as a current checkout quote. Compare the renewal price and included device allowance as well as any first-year promotion.

Before paying, verify the plan name, device count, backup allowance, renewal amount, and billing period on the checkout page for your country. Norton’s U.S. product pages are not proof that the same offer applies elsewhere.

Norton reports that its products stopped 1.8 billion attacks in 2024, including an average of 191 million phishing and scam attempts, on its comparison page. This is Norton’s own reported figure, not an independent comparison of AntiVirus Plus and Standard. The reviewed product information does not establish that one of these two plans is more effective than the other at detecting malware. Choose based on the features and device allowance you need, rather than treating the tier name or vendor-wide statistic as proof of superior efficacy.

How to make the final choice
- Count the devices. Use the allowance stated for the exact offer, not an assumption based on the plan name.
- Decide whether you need the extras. Standard adds a VPN and Dark Web Monitoring; AntiVirus Plus does not list either.
- Check backup needs. Both plans list 2 GB; Deluxe lists 50 GB.
- Review checkout terms. Confirm the region, initial price, renewal price, billing period, and device count before subscribing.
