NordVPN is a feature-rich VPN subscription with privacy and security extras that depend on the plan and device you use. Its independent no-logs assurance and positive leak-protection tests are useful evidence, but they do not prove complete anonymity or resolve every concern about policy transparency. Before subscribing, check which features your plan includes and what it will cost when it renews.
Is NordVPN safe?
There is encouraging evidence on both independent assurance and technical behavior, but those are separate questions: whether the service handled traffic as its no-logs statement describes, and whether its software protected a connection in particular tests.
What the latest no-logs assurance says
In a February 3, 2026 announcement, NordVPN said it had commissioned Deloitte Lithuania for a sixth independent reasonable-assurance engagement under ISAE 3000 (Revised). The company reported that Deloitte concluded NordVPN’s IT systems and supporting operations were designed and implemented in line with its no-logs statement. The full report is available to customers after logging into a Nord Account; the public announcement does not include report excerpts, so readers cannot assess the full findings from that announcement alone.

Nord Security’s February 18, 2025 release described the fifth engagement, including practitioner interviews with employees and inspections of infrastructure and technical logs. It said Deloitte practitioners had access to NordVPN services from November 18 to December 20, 2024, and that the review covered standard VPN, Double VPN, Onion Over VPN, obfuscated, and P2P servers. That is useful historical scope, not a substitute for the sixth engagement’s full report.

What technical tests do—and do not—establish
RTINGS, in a review updated July 13, 2026, reported no IP-address or DNS-query leaks in its tests and said the kill switch worked. The same review raised separate concerns about vague policy language, possible personal-information collection and sharing, limited access to audit reports, and company transparency. Leak tests and a working kill switch are positive results for the tested setup; they do not settle every question about data practices or guarantee privacy in every situation.

Threat Protection Pro is an extra layer, not a complete security plan
The feature can block malicious sites and scan downloads, but it should not be treated as a replacement for all dedicated endpoint protection or careful browsing. Tom’s Guide reported that an AV-Comparatives test run August 12–22, 2026 assessed 250 live phishing URLs and 250 legitimate URLs; NordVPN’s product detected 94% of the phishing URLs and had zero false alarms in that test. Tom’s Guide also reported an earlier AV-TEST result of 83.42% across 3,209 links in November 2024. These are results from specific tests and samples, not guarantees of real-world detection.

How well does NordVPN work for streaming?
Streaming access is a changing, service-by-service and location-by-location result, not a permanent feature guarantee. Tom’s Guide reported that NordVPN unblocked the Netflix libraries and Disney Plus locations it tested, as well as BBC iPlayer, ITV, Channel, 10 Play, and 9Now. In a March 27, 2026 retest, it had trouble with YouTube US and Amazon Prime in Australia, while those services worked in other tested locations. A different country, account, or date may produce a different outcome as streaming services adjust VPN detection.
What speeds, protocols, and server options should you expect?
Tom’s Guide describes NordLynx as based on WireGuard and says NordVPN also supports OpenVPN. The choice matters for particular uses: that review says OpenVPN is required for router installation and obfuscated servers.

Security.org’s October 1, 2026 review reported a network of more than 9,300 servers in 137 countries. Those are the reviewer’s reported figures and can change. It also described obfuscated servers in 16 countries and noted that using them requires switching to OpenVPN, with a speed tradeoff.
Using NordVPN on a router
A router setup is relevant if you want VPN coverage for devices that do not run a VPN app, but the hardware must support VPN client mode and be compatible with NordVPN’s configuration. Check the router manufacturer’s specifications and setup instructions before buying; a router purchase does not include a NordVPN subscription.

Is NordVPN worth the price?
It may suit readers who want a VPN plus optional tools in one subscription, but the value depends on the tier, device support, and the renewal terms—not just the introductory price. Tom’s Guide and TechRadar both note price increases at renewal. No stable, universal price is established for every region and plan, so compare the exact offer shown to you.
- Confirm the upfront billing total and subscription term.
- Check the renewal price and when it takes effect.
- Verify which extras are included in the selected plan and work on your devices.
- Read the regional refund conditions and cancellation process before checkout.
For a comparison with another VPN, weigh the clarity and accessibility of its privacy assurance, tested leak and kill-switch behavior, device and protocol support, streaming results for your locations, renewal cost, and included extras. The evidence does not establish one VPN as the best choice for every reader.
