Nomadic Crafting is not a fourth Workshop station. It is a Survival skill that expands what you can craft while you are Topside on a raid. Field crafting is the general inventory-based process for making improvised items from materials you are carrying. The Workshop is the separate, persistent base system: you return there to use the free basic Workbench or specialized stations, with station upgrades and learned blueprints determining many available recipes.
The practical rule is simple: if you need an improvised item without leaving the raid, look at field crafting and the Nomadic Crafting skill. If the recipe belongs to your base progression, requires a station, or is locked behind a blueprint, plan to extract and use the Workshop.
What the three crafting options mean
ARC Raiders uses the word “crafting” for systems that operate in different places and have different progression rules. Understanding the location and gate for each system prevents the most common mistake: expecting a skill unlocked Topside to behave like a permanent Workshop upgrade.
Field crafting: the general on-raid process
Field crafting is the broad activity of combining resources collected Topside to create improvised items while you are still in a raid. Embark’s Help Center describes it as: “Field crafting lets you combine resources you collect Topside to create improvised items on the go.” The official instructions are available in the ARC Raiders Help Center’s Field crafting guide, last updated October 27, 2025.

- ARC Raiders Deluxe Edition includes the base game and the following content: The Wanderer Set, including the following cosmetic items: “Valente” Outfit" “Pathfinder” Backpack,“Blanket Roll” Backpack Attachment.
- Plus: Character Cosmetic, Finger Gun Rapid Fire Emote, Cowboy Scrappy Body Type and Skin, 2 400 Raider Tokens.
In practical terms, you open your inventory, choose the Crafting tab, and work with the materials currently available to that Raider. Field crafting is therefore situational: your carried resources, the recipes exposed by the current build, and the pressure of the raid all matter. It is not a base installation, and it does not permanently expand your account simply because you made an item once.
Nomadic Crafting: a Survival skill expansion
Nomadic Crafting sits inside the Raider skill system. It expands the on-raid crafting capability represented by field crafting; it is not a separate room, station, or replacement for the Workshop. You still use it Topside, through the raid inventory and crafting interface, but your Survival skill investment can expose a broader set of useful recipes than basic field crafting alone.
Contemporary coverage associates Nomadic Crafting with most ammunition types and mobility items such as the Grappling Hook and Zipline. That description comes from PC Gamer’s October 9, 2026 guide, “What does Nomadic Crafting let you make in Arc Raiders?” It is a category-level description, not an official, permanent recipe index. The October 2026 skill-tree changes mean exact unlocks can differ from older guides, so use the live skill screen and recipe list before committing points or packing materials.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe Workshop: persistent base crafting
The Workshop is the base-side system. Its free basic Workbench and specialized stations are used after you return from Topside. Station construction and upgrades affect what a station can produce, while some recipes require a blueprint to be extracted and learned before they appear at the relevant station. The community reference ARC Raiders Hub’s Workshop overview documents that station-and-blueprint behavior.
Workshop crafting is consequently less about improvising with whatever is in your backpack and more about permanent progression. You build or improve the station, obtain the required blueprint when applicable, learn it, and then craft from the base using the listed materials.
Nomadic Crafting vs. the alternatives
| Option | Where it happens | Primary gate | What it is for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Field crafting | Topside, through the inventory Crafting tab | Materials you currently carry and recipes available in the build | General improvised crafting during a raid |
| Nomadic Crafting | Topside, as a Survival skill-enabled extension | Skill investment plus any conditions shown by the live recipe interface | Broader on-raid crafting; current reporting links it to most ammunition and mobility options |
| Workshop | Back at base, at the Workbench or a specialized station | Station construction or upgrade and, for some items, an extracted and learned blueprint | Persistent base crafting for gear, weapons, consumables, and other station recipes |
The systems can complement one another, but they should not be treated as interchangeable recipe pools. Nomadic Crafting does not automatically unlock every Workshop recipe, and a Workshop station does not give you the ability to craft its items in the middle of a raid.

How field crafting works during a raid
1. Collect and keep the required materials
Field recipes draw from resources you have collected Topside and still possess. Before selecting a recipe, check that the necessary components are in your current inventory rather than stored at base. Weight, space, and the risk of losing your loadout make this a decision rather than a purely menu-based action.

2. Open the inventory Crafting tab
Use the inventory’s Crafting tab to see the recipes available to your Raider in the current build. The interface is the authoritative check for availability and cost. If a guide lists an item that does not appear there, the live build, your progression, or your current materials may differ from the guide.
3. Craft only when the raid value exceeds the material value
An improvised item can solve an immediate traversal, ammunition, or survival problem, but every craft consumes materials that could have been extracted for later use. Consider whether the item lets you reach an objective, escape danger, or finish a fight now. If not, carrying the resources out may be the better choice.
4. Recheck the result before moving
After crafting, confirm that the item entered the expected inventory slot and that the remaining materials still support your next planned action. This is especially important when you are preparing ammunition or mobility equipment under time pressure; a successful craft does not guarantee that the resulting quantity is enough for the next encounter.
What Nomadic Crafting adds
A skill-based expansion, not a new station
Nomadic Crafting changes the set of on-raid options available to a Raider who invests in the relevant Survival path. You continue to craft through the field interface, using materials carried Topside. There is no separate Nomadic Crafting bench to construct at base and no reason to travel back to the Workshop merely to activate the skill.
Reported categories: ammunition and mobility
Current secondary coverage associates the skill with most ammunition types and mobility tools including the Grappling Hook and Zipline. The wording matters: “most” does not mean every ammunition variant, and the examples do not constitute a complete list. Recipe names, prerequisites, and material costs should be read from the live skill and Crafting screens rather than copied from a pre-revamp chart.

What the skill does not establish by itself
- It does not prove that every ammo type is available immediately after the first skill point.
- It does not automatically unlock all Workshop gear, weapon, or consumable recipes.
- It does not remove the need to carry the listed materials Topside.
- It does not make a blueprint-gated Workshop recipe craftable in the field unless the current interface explicitly shows that behavior.
Those limits are why a category summary is safer than a definitive Nomadic Crafting recipe table. The October 2026 skill-tree redesign may have moved prerequisites or changed which nodes are offered together.
How Workshop progression differs
The basic Workbench
The Workshop includes a basic Workbench that is free, according to the current community Workshop reference. It is the starting point for base crafting, but “free” does not mean that every recipe is available immediately. The station’s level, the recipes supported by that station, and any blueprint requirements still determine what you can make.
Specialized stations and upgrades
Other Workshop recipes belong to specialized stations. You may need to construct a station and upgrade it before the desired recipe becomes available. This creates a persistent progression loop: extract materials and blueprints, improve the base, then use the upgraded station for future crafts.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Blueprint extraction and learning
For a blueprint-gated recipe, finding the blueprint is only part of the process. The blueprint must be extracted successfully and learned before it can add the recipe to the relevant station. Losing it before extraction, or failing to learn it after returning, does not function like unlocking a Nomadic Crafting node.
Why a Workshop item may be unavailable Topside
A recipe can be perfectly valid at base yet absent from the raid Crafting tab because it belongs to a station, requires a base upgrade, or is not part of the field-crafting set. Check the recipe’s location and requirements instead of assuming that a higher Survival investment will reproduce the Workshop menu.
Choosing the right system in common situations
You need ammunition before extracting
Open the field Crafting tab first. If the ammunition recipe is exposed and you have the required materials, Nomadic Crafting may let you solve the shortage without abandoning the raid. If the recipe is not present, do not assume that the Workshop version can be made in the field; extract and use the appropriate station at base.

You need to cross a dangerous gap
Mobility options such as the Grappling Hook and Zipline are among the items currently associated with Nomadic Crafting. A Survival investment can therefore have a direct movement benefit when the live recipe list shows the item. Check material costs before entering a risky area, because the ability to craft an item is still dependent on what you carried or collected.
You want a permanent supply of a specialized item
Use the Workshop path. Identify the station, check its level requirement, locate the blueprint if one is required, extract it, learn it, and then craft at base. Nomadic Crafting is designed for raid flexibility, not as a substitute for building a reliable production setup.
You found an older guide with a different skill path
Use the old guide only as a broad orientation. Verify every node and prerequisite in the current client before spending points. Embark’s October 8, 2026 Frozen Trail 2.0 update notes describe the change as a “fairly big reimagining” of the Raider Skill Tree and warn that further tweaks may follow.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. The October 2026 skill-tree change and its effect on guides
The Frozen Trail 2.0 notes explain two structural changes that directly affect Nomadic Crafting advice. Mid-branch nodes now present binary choices instead of the previous format. At the end of a branch, players can select up to two of three skills after making the required investment.
This means an older recommendation such as “take every node on the branch” may no longer describe the live decision. It also means that two Raiders can follow the same broad Survival direction while choosing different paired end skills. A recipe or mobility option that used to be shown as a guaranteed sequence may now depend on which branch choices you make.
When evaluating a guide, record its publication date, compare its screenshots or node names with your current client, and treat exact levels, costs, and ordering as version-sensitive. The update is dated October 8, 2026; PC Gamer’s Nomadic Crafting coverage is dated October 9, 2026. Even that newer secondary guide should be checked against later hotfixes or skill-tree adjustments.

Common misconceptions and fixes
“Nomadic Crafting is another Workshop station.”
Fix: Think “Survival skill that expands field crafting.” It operates Topside through the raid inventory, not from a new base room.
“If I can craft it in the Workshop, I can craft it during a raid.”
Fix: Look at the field Crafting tab. Workshop stations and field recipes are separate systems, and the Workshop may require a station level or learned blueprint.
“Unlocking the skill gives me free items.”
Fix: Skill access changes what recipes can be available; it does not replace the materials listed by the live recipe interface.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →“A guide’s complete recipe list is permanent.”
Fix: Verify the list in your current build. The 2026 skill-tree revamp changed node structure, and the published coverage describes broad item categories rather than an official, immutable index.
“The free Workbench has no progression requirements.”
Fix: The basic Workbench itself is free, but station levels and blueprints can still gate individual Workshop recipes.
A practical decision checklist
- Location: Are you still Topside, or are you already at base?
- Interface: Is the recipe visible in the inventory Crafting tab, or only at a Workshop station?
- Materials: Do you have the required components in your current carried inventory?
- Skill: Does the live Survival tree show the Nomadic Crafting access you need?
- Station: If it is a Workshop item, is the relevant station built and upgraded?
- Blueprint: Does the recipe require a blueprint that must be extracted and learned first?
- Version: Are you relying on advice written before the October 8, 2026 Frozen Trail 2.0 skill-tree redesign?
- Risk: Will crafting now materially improve your chance of completing the raid, or is extracting the materials more valuable?
What to remember when comparing the systems
Field crafting is the umbrella term for improvised, inventory-based production during a raid. Nomadic Crafting is a Survival skill that broadens that field capability, with current reporting pointing to most ammunition types and mobility tools such as Grappling Hook and Zipline. The Workshop is the separate base system, built around the free basic Workbench, specialized stations, upgrades, and blueprint learning.
Use the location-first test whenever the menus are confusing: Topside means field crafting and any Nomadic Crafting options your skill tree has enabled; back at base means the Workshop and its station progression. Then trust the live recipe and skill interfaces over an older list, because the October 2026 redesign changed how skill choices are presented and may continue to receive adjustments.
