Nintendo says it wants Switch 2 to offer a range of gaming experiences, but Grand Theft Auto VI has not been announced for the system. Rockstar’s current GTA VI page lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a release date of November 19, 2026. That is the currently announced platform lineup—not proof that a Switch 2 version could never arrive.
What Nintendo said about Switch 2 games
In a 2026 report republishing a Variety interview, Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard described the company’s goal this way: “We want to provide a diversity in terms of the types of experiences that you can have on the game system, and that’s really important for us.” The report’s headline also said Nintendo could not confirm whether Grand Theft Auto VI would release on Switch 2. This is a reported comment about Nintendo’s broader approach, not an announcement of a deal, rejection, or platform plan for GTA VI. (Nintendo Life’s republication of the Variety interview)

Nintendo has expressed a similar broad ambition in its own developer interview. Takuhiro Dohta said, “From the beginning of development, we wanted Switch 2 to be a console that can be enjoyed by a wide variety of players.” He also said, “We believe the act of finding the game you want to play is itself part of the game console experience.” These statements describe the intended audience and experience; they do not identify specific third-party games coming to the console. Is Grand Theft Auto VI coming to Switch 2?
Rockstar’s current GTA VI page lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and gives November 19, 2026 as the release date. It does not list Switch 2. So the accurate answer is that Rockstar has not announced Switch 2 as a launch platform on its current page. A missing platform listing does not rule out a later announcement or port.

- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
The same page describes Jason and Lucia in the state of Leonida and labels PlayStation 5 as the system the game “Plays Best On.” That label does not change the listed platform status or establish anything about a Switch 2 version.
Why Switch compatibility does not answer the GTA VI question
Nintendo’s developer interview discusses compatibility with games from the original Switch. Takuhiro Sasaki said Nintendo was checking more than 10,000 Switch games one by one for compatibility. That figure describes the library Nintendo was checking, not a count of games confirmed to work fully on Switch 2. Nintendo also noted that some games might not be supported or might not be fully compatible. (Nintendo, April 2, 2025)

Backward compatibility and a new release are separate questions: Nintendo’s compatibility work does not announce GTA VI, which is a distinct game with its own platform listing. The interview provides no basis for concluding that GTA VI will run on Switch 2, or that it cannot.

A 2025 Take-Two investor presentation included GTA VI in its pipeline and named some Switch 2 releases from Take-Two labels. It also cautioned that launch timing could change. Because it is a dated pipeline snapshot, it should not be used to establish GTA VI’s current release timing or claim a Switch 2 version. For the present platform answer, Rockstar’s current game page is the relevant source. (Take-Two investor materials)
