If you’re buying a console specifically to play Grand Theft Auto VI, choose a PlayStation 5 or an Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar’s official platform listings name those consoles; they do not list Nintendo Switch 2. Rockstar has not confirmed a Switch 2 version, so don’t buy one expecting to play GTA VI on it.
Take-Two announced a November 19, 2026 launch date for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. That date is scheduled, not a guarantee against future changes.

Which consoles are confirmed for GTA VI?
Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as platforms for GTA VI. Its official materials checked on October 11, 2026, do not list Nintendo Switch 2. The platform listing is the clearest basis for a purchase decision: PS5 and Xbox are confirmed; a Switch 2 edition is not.
That distinction does not prove a future Switch 2 port is technically impossible. It means Rockstar has not announced one in the official platform information available at that date. Recheck Rockstar’s GTA VI page and its customer support platform and edition information before buying, since platform announcements can change.

- This product contains a download code inside the box — no disc is included. Customer shipments will begin arriving November 12 for pre-load; game is playable starting November 19. Code can only be used by users holding an account for PlayStation registered to the US or Canada.
- Pre-order to receive the Vintage Vice City Pack.
- Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.
PS5 or Xbox Series X|S: which should you choose?
Both are confirmed options. The official sources cited here do not establish a GTA VI resolution, frame-rate, or image-quality winner between them, so choose based on the console and games you already use, your preferred ecosystem, and the specific model and local price.
Choose PS5 if its ecosystem suits you
In a June 24, 2026 post, PlayStation said GTA VI “will play best on PS5” by taking advantage of PS5 immersive features. That is PlayStation’s platform-holder statement; the post does not provide comparative performance figures against Xbox Series X|S. It is relevant if you value PlayStation-specific features, but it is not an independently quantified technical comparison.

- STUNNING VISUALS — Enhanced levels of fidelity and performance with new graphics modes featuring up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, HDR options, ray tracing, improved texture quality, and more
- FASTER LOADING — Quicker access to the action as the world of Los Santos and Blaine County load in faster than ever before.
- ADAPTIVE TRIGGERS AND HAPTIC FEEDBACK — Feel every moment through the DualSense controller, from directional damage to weather effects, rough road surfaces to explosions, and more.
- TEMPEST 3D AUDIO — Hear the sounds of the world with pinpoint precision: the throttle of a stolen supercar, the rattle of neighbouring gunfire, the roar of a helicopter overhead, and more.
- Please note that although this game is Region Free or Region Unlocked and will work on all systems, this is the European version and may differ from the local version in age rating, labeling or instructions.
Choose Xbox Series X|S if you prefer Xbox
Xbox Series X|S is also on Rockstar’s platform list. Xbox’s Series X product page advertises support for frame rates up to 120 FPS as a general console capability. That is not a GTA VI-specific performance promise, and it does not settle how the game will perform on either Xbox model.

Will GTA VI be on Nintendo Switch 2?
Rockstar’s official platform information checked October 11, 2026, does not list Switch 2, and no Switch 2 version is confirmed in those materials. Switch 2 may still be a good console for other reasons, but its hardware specifications are not evidence that GTA VI will run on it.
What Switch 2 offers instead
Nintendo positions Switch 2 for handheld, tabletop, and TV play. Its published specifications include a 7.9-inch LCD with 1920×1080 resolution, 256 GB of internal storage, and estimated battery life of approximately 2–6.5 hours, depending on the games played. In TV mode, it supports output up to 4K at 60 fps; actual output depends on the game and connected display. These describe the console, not GTA VI compatibility.

- Edition Includes: 40th Caper, "Where in the World?"; Cosmetic skins: Classic & Motorcycle oufit; Digital Official Soundtrack & Artbook; Map; & Stickers - unlockable thru gameplay
- Dive back into the iconic world of Carmen Sandiego, reimagined for a new era
- For the first time in history you get to play as Carmen Sandiego
- Use State-of-the-Art Gadgets – Glide, swing, and spy with Carmen’s high-tech gear
- Track suspects, collect clues, decipher codes, & solve puzzles & capers
Choose Switch 2 if portable play and Nintendo’s game library matter more to you than having a confirmed GTA VI platform. Nintendo’s U.S. product page listed a Switch 2 plus Mario Kart World bundle at a $549.99 MSRP when accessed October 11, 2026; bundle availability and local pricing can differ.

Take-Two’s June 2026 U.S. pre-order announcement listed GTA VI at $79.99. That is the announced U.S. price in that release, not a universal or permanent price; check the current listing in your region before ordering.

Also, Rockstar says the physical version contains a download code for the digital game. Do not assume that a physical package includes a conventional game disc. Check the product listing for the edition and format you intend to buy.
Quick Recap
Make the choice based on what you want to play
- GTA VI is the priority: Buy PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, the platforms Rockstar lists.
- You want PlayStation features: PS5 is the option PlayStation specifically promotes for GTA VI, with the qualification that its “plays best” claim is not backed by a public comparative benchmark in the cited post.
- You already play on Xbox: Xbox Series X|S is a confirmed platform; select the model and edition that fit your budget and physical-media needs.
- Handheld play and Nintendo games matter most: Switch 2 fits those priorities, but do not count on it for GTA VI unless Rockstar announces support.
