There is no verified AMD GPU equivalent to the Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo says the console uses a custom NVIDIA processor, and the available RX 560 comparison is only a low-confidence suggestion for docked play—not evidence of matching performance.

Why there is no exact AMD equivalent

Nintendo’s official specifications describe the Switch 2 CPU/GPU as a “Custom processor made by NVIDIA.” That makes the console’s graphics hardware NVIDIA-based, not an AMD product. An AMD card can only be a performance analogy; it is not the same GPU or a confirmed one-to-one match. Nintendo’s Switch 2 specifications identify the processor’s maker.

What the Switch 2 GPU is reported to use

Digital Foundry’s technical reporting identifies the GPU architecture as NVIDIA Ampere, with 1,536 CUDA cores and support for DLSS. It reports GPU clocks of 561 MHz in handheld mode and 1,007 MHz when docked. These figures come from technical reporting, rather than Nintendo’s public specifications page. Digital Foundry’s Switch 2 confirmed-specs coverage is the source for those reported details.

Tom’s Hardware compared the GPU with NVIDIA’s Ampere-based mobile RTX 2050, noting that the Switch 2 has fewer CUDA cores—1,536 versus 2,048—and lower clocks. That is a comparison to NVIDIA hardware, not proof that an AMD card performs the same. Tom’s Hardware’s May 14, 2025 report attributes this comparison to Aaron Klotz.

How the Radeon RX 560 comparison should be read

A Yahoo Tech result for this exact comparison suggests the desktop Radeon RX 560 as a closer rough match for docked Switch 2 play. Treat that as a tentative analogy: the result is secondary, and it does not provide controlled testing showing the RX 560 and Switch 2 delivering equal performance. Yahoo Tech’s comparison result is the basis for the suggestion.

It is therefore reasonable to name the RX 560 only as a rough, low-confidence point of reference for docked play. It is not accurate to call it the Switch 2’s equivalent, or to assume games will run at the same frame rate or visual quality on both systems.

Why a simple performance match is difficult

  • Different operating modes: The Switch 2 has separate reported handheld and docked GPU clocks, so a desktop-card comparison depends on which mode is being considered.
  • Upscaling matters: DLSS can affect the image a game outputs, making comparisons based only on core counts or theoretical throughput incomplete.
  • Games are optimized differently: A console game is tuned for fixed hardware, while PC performance depends on the game, settings and system configuration.
  • Output resolution is not render resolution: Nintendo lists maximum output modes, but those figures do not establish the resolution at which a game renders internally.

Nintendo specifies maximum output of 1920×1080 in handheld and tabletop modes. In TV mode, it lists up to 3840×2160 at 60 fps, or 120 fps at selected 1920×1080 and 2560×1440 resolutions. Those are output specifications, not a promise that every game renders natively at those resolutions. Nintendo’s specifications page lists the modes.

What to compare if you are choosing an AMD card

If your goal is to estimate PC performance rather than identify identical hardware, compare the same game at similar visual settings and output resolution. Account for whether the Switch 2 is handheld or docked, and whether the game uses DLSS or another upscaler. Without controlled tests across those conditions, no AMD card can be presented as a dependable performance match.
