Best overall approach: buy first-party exclusives, Nintendo-branded hardware and merchandise from the official Nintendo Store; use EB Games when you want a physical game, a pre-owned price, a local shop or a replacement accessory; and check major online retailers for bundles, local stock and Nintendo-listed demos. Compare the complete checkout total, delivery date, stock status, format, warranty and return terms rather than assuming one retailer is always cheapest.
Which Canadian retailer fits your purchase?
The right choice depends on what you are buying and how quickly you need it. Nintendo’s own store is the most direct route to official products and store exclusives. EB Games combines online ordering with physical locations and carries both new and pre-owned Switch inventory. Other online retailers can beat either route on a particular bundle or offer a nearby demo, but their stock and promotions change frequently.
| Buying priority | Best starting point | Why |
|---|---|---|
| First-party game, Nintendo-branded hardware or merchandise | Nintendo Store Canada | Direct Nintendo inventory, store exclusives and Nintendo-run promotions |
| Used physical games or accessories | EB Games Canada | Pre-owned listings, store pickup opportunities and item-by-item condition checks |
| Immediate download | Nintendo eShop | Digital delivery after a Nintendo Account and eShop access are verified |
| Bundle promotion or in-person demo | Participating retailers named by Nintendo | Nintendo’s retail-offers page identifies selected EB Games, Walmart and Best Buy locations |
| Lowest delivered price on a specific listing | Compare all three routes | Shipping, tax, preorder timing, stock and return terms can change the result |
At-a-glance comparison
| Factor | Nintendo Store | EB Games | Other online retailers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official Nintendo selection | Strongest for Nintendo-branded products and exclusives | Strong selection, subject to store and warehouse inventory | Varies by seller |
| Pre-owned choice | Generally not the reason to shop there | Core advantage, with item-level condition and stock differences | Depends on marketplace and seller |
| Physical locations | Online storefront | Stores across Canada | Varies; some offer pickup |
| Shipping benchmark | Advertised free shipping at $65 or more, restrictions apply | Paid standard or express rates based on order value | Retailer-specific |
| Bundles and demos | Lists Nintendo promotions and participating retailers | May participate in selected offers and demos | Walmart and Best Buy are examples named by Nintendo |
| Returns | Separate policies for digital and physical purchases | Verification and eligibility requirements apply | Read the individual seller’s terms |
Nintendo Store Canada: best for official products and qualifying free shipping
The Canadian Nintendo Store presents games, hardware, merchandise, store exclusives and sales in one official storefront. It is the sensible first check for a Nintendo-branded controller, console accessory or an item that is difficult to find through general retailers. Buying directly also makes it easier to identify the exact model, colour and bundle contents rather than relying on a marketplace description.

Current example prices
The following are list-price examples displayed on Nintendo of Canada’s store pages. They are time-sensitive listings, not permanent price guarantees, so check the live page before ordering.
#1 Best Overall
- Take your game sessions up a notch with the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
- Handheld Nintendo Switch gaming at a great price
- Comes with charging cable (USB C to USB A)
| Product | Displayed price | Listing qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller | $109.99 | Nintendo of Canada listing date shown as 2025 |
| Joy-Con 2 pair | $124.99 | Nintendo of Canada listing date shown as 2026 |
| Nintendo Switch 2 Camera | $69.99 | Nintendo of Canada listing date shown as 2026 |
Shipping threshold
Nintendo advertises “Free shipping on orders $65 or more. Restrictions apply.” The threshold can make the official store attractive for a single qualifying accessory, but the restriction language means eligibility should be confirmed in the cart. Do not add an unnecessary item solely to reach $65; compare the delivered total with another retailer first. A qualifying order can still have different delivery timing for preorders or items that ship separately, so review the estimated arrival shown at checkout.
Bundles, promotions and demos
Nintendo’s Canadian retail-offers page promotes limited-stock and date-limited offers. It lists a Nintendo Switch + Nintendo Switch Sports + Leg Strap Bundle at a $419.99 MSRP and a Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle at a $749.99 MSRP. These are manufacturer suggested retail prices, not a promise that every retailer will charge that amount. Participating locations and available quantities can differ.
The same page identifies selected EB Games, Walmart and Best Buy locations that offer in-store demos for certain products. A demo can be more valuable than a small online discount when you are choosing a controller, camera or other hardware whose size and ergonomics matter. Confirm the participating location before travelling, since a retailer’s general store locator does not mean every branch has a demo unit.
When the Nintendo Store is not automatically the cheapest
- A competing retailer may discount a physical game or include a bundle item.
- EB Games may have a lower pre-owned price for an older cartridge.
- Shipping, tax and a retailer gift-card promotion can change the final total.
- A listing can be temporarily unavailable even when Nintendo still shows the product category.
- A digital version may have a different price and cannot be compared directly with a boxed cartridge without considering resale and sharing.
EB Games Canada: best for physical games, pre-owned stock and local access
EB Games describes its Canadian offering as: “Shop new and pre-owned games, toys, collectibles, and trading cards, plus consoles, controllers, and accessories for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC.” That combination makes it useful when you want to inspect or collect a cartridge, trade between new and used options, or ask a local store about availability.
New-versus-pre-owned examples
These catalog examples show the size of the possible saving. A pre-owned price is tied to the item and store inventory; it is not a universal discount percentage.
| Item | New price | Pre-owned price |
|---|---|---|
| Mario Kart 8 Deluxe | $84.99 | $74.99 |
| Nintendo Switch Pro Controller | $99.99 | $79.99 |
| Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Controllers (left and right, Neon Red/Neon Blue) | $109.99 | Catalog example lists a new price |
| Nintendo Switch AC Adapter | $39.99 | $19.99 |
For accessories, inspect the exact model and condition. A used adapter or controller can be a good value, but confirm that it is the correct Nintendo model, includes the expected cable or power brick and has a return option if it fails your console’s compatibility check. For a controller, ask whether the listing is the complete pair or a single left or right unit; the Joy-Con example above names both sides but is still a product-specific listing.

Online shipping costs and timing
EB Games says online orders ship from Ontario. Standard shipping is $9.99 per shipment under $100, plus $1.50 for every additional $100. Orders are processed within three business days and delivered within ten business days once shipped. Express shipping is $21.99 per shipment under $100, plus $1.50 for every additional $100, with delivery within two business days once shipped.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Those are the 2026 rates described by EB Games and should be confirmed at checkout. Release-date grouping, item availability and the number of shipments can alter the amount you pay. A $74.99 used game may no longer be cheaper than a new game elsewhere after shipping and tax, especially when ordered alone. Conversely, combining several items can spread one shipment fee across the order, but only if the retailer actually ships them together.
Stores, pickup and returns
Local stores give you another way to check stock, compare a pre-owned copy with a new one and ask whether a replacement accessory is available immediately. Inventory is location-dependent; an item shown online may not be on a nearby shelf. Call or use the store’s current availability information rather than assuming online stock equals shelf stock.
EB Games states that online returns and exchanges are subject to verification and may be handled online or in store for eligible cases. Read the item-specific conditions before placing an order. If a shipment arrives damaged, report it promptly and keep photographs of the package and shipping box, as the returns guidance requests. Keep the order confirmation and tracking information until the issue is resolved.
Other online retailers: useful for bundles, stock and demos
Do not treat “online” as one uniform store. Compare the specific seller, fulfilment method and return policy. Nintendo’s Canadian retail-offers page names EB Games, Walmart and Best Buy as participating retailers for selected promotions and demos. Those offers may be limited by date, stock and participating location.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat to compare on an online listing
- Format: cartridge, download code or downloadable content (DLC).
- Stock status: in stock, backordered, preorder or fulfilled by a third party.
- Delivery: estimated arrival, shipping fee and whether separate items ship separately.
- Bundle contents: verify every included game, strap, cable or bonus item.
- Returns: check whether opened software, codes and pre-owned hardware have different rules.
- Warranty: identify who provides coverage and whether proof of purchase is required.
- Seller identity: make sure the listing is from the retailer itself or a seller whose contact and return details are clear.
The useful comparison is the final checkout amount after tax and shipping, not the bold price on a search result. Also account for preorder timing: a lower price is not useful if the game arrives after a birthday, trip or multiplayer event. A marketplace listing that appears cheaper can also be a download code rather than a cartridge, so read the product type and delivery method carefully.

Physical or digital Switch game?
Choose the format before comparing retailers because it changes sharing, storage, resale and return options.
| Consideration | Physical cartridge | Digital purchase |
|---|---|---|
| How you receive it | A cartridge is shipped or bought in a store | Downloaded through Nintendo eShop |
| Sharing | Nintendo’s Play Nintendo guide says physical games can be shared between consoles | Access is tied to the purchasing Nintendo Account and console rules |
| Resale or collecting | Can be kept, lent or considered for resale subject to the owner’s choice | No cartridge to lend or resell |
| Used-market access | Eligible for EB Games pre-owned inventory when available | Not a used physical item |
| Immediate play | Requires delivery or a store visit | Download can begin after purchase and eShop access |
Digital purchase requirements in Canada
Nintendo Support says a Canadian digital purchase requires a Nintendo Account that has accessed the eShop on a Switch or Switch 2, along with internet access and eShop access to download the game. Confirm that the intended console is linked to the correct account and has enough available storage before paying. If several people use the console, check which account will own the purchase; convenience does not remove the account requirement.
Physical-game checks
- Confirm that the listing is a cartridge rather than a download code in a box.
- Check region and language information where the seller provides it.
- Look for required downloads, updates or DLC; a cartridge does not necessarily contain every expansion.
- For a pre-owned copy, verify the case, cartridge condition and return eligibility.
- Ask whether the game is complete-in-box if the case, cover art or collection value matters to you.
How to compare the real cost before ordering
- Identify the exact product. Record the game edition, controller revision, colour, included accessories and format.
- Check official availability. Look at Nintendo’s current listing first for Nintendo-branded hardware, exclusives and bundles.
- Check EB Games. Compare new and pre-owned listings, then look for a nearby store if timing matters.
- Check participating online retailers. Review bundle contents, demos and local stock named in Nintendo’s retail offers.
- Add the complete charges. Include tax, shipping, preorder grouping and any required delivery surcharge. For EB Games, apply the current standard or express formula shown at checkout.
- Review fulfilment and returns. Note the estimated delivery date, warranty provider, return window and any software-code restrictions.
- Choose the format deliberately. Select physical for sharing, collecting or used-market access; select digital for download convenience when the account and eShop requirements are met.
- Save your records. Keep the order confirmation, seller name, tracking number and photographs of damaged packaging until the return or warranty period ends.
Three practical shopping scenarios
Buying one older game: compare EB Games pre-owned stock with a new copy at another retailer. Add EB Games’ shipping fee before deciding; the used sticker price alone does not establish the saving.
Buying a new Nintendo accessory: start with Nintendo Store Canada, especially if the item qualifies for the advertised $65 free shipping. Then compare the exact model at EB Games and check whether a participating retailer has a bundle or demo.
Buying several items for a family: compare the delivered order rather than each unit price. A bundle can include a game or strap you would otherwise buy, while separate shipments can erase a small discount. Confirm every person’s preferred format and the console model before submitting the order.
Accessory buying guide
Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
This is a useful item to price across both official and pre-owned channels. EB Games’ 2026 catalog lists the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller at $99.99 new and $79.99 used. Compare the condition, included cable, warranty and shipping before treating the $20 difference as a saving. If you are shopping elsewhere, search the exact phrase “Nintendo Switch Pro Controller,” then verify the seller, model compatibility, current price and return policy. A used controller should be tested for charging, wireless connection and stick response during the allowed return period.

- WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY: Get the freedom to game anywhere with a 30-foot wireless range, and without the hassle of wires.
- RECHARGEABLE BATTERY: Save money and never need to buy, or waste, batteries again.
- UP TO 40 HOURS OF BATTERY LIFE: Enjoy longer game play before needing to recharge.
- PRISMATIC LED LIGHTING: Customize the look of your controller to match your mood with the full color range and four lighting modes.
- MOTION-CONTROLS: Enhance your gaming experience to play the way the developer intended.
Nintendo Switch AC Adapter
For a replacement power supply, EB Games lists a Nintendo Switch AC Adapter at $39.99 new and $19.99 used. Confirm that the adapter is intended for your Switch model and that the listing includes the correct power brick and cable. A low sticker price is not worthwhile if the item is incomplete or lacks a workable return path. Do not substitute an unidentified third-party power supply merely because it is cheaper; verify the listing’s stated compatibility and the retailer’s remedy for a defect.

Nintendo’s store examples include Joy-Con 2 pairs at $124.99 and a Nintendo Switch 2 Camera at $69.99, with 2026 listing dates shown on the pages. Check model naming carefully: an accessory designed for Switch 2 may not be interchangeable with an original Switch accessory, and colour or bundle contents can affect the price. Compare a pair with a single replacement side, and confirm whether a camera, strap or cable is included before comparing two apparently similar listings.

Nintendo Canada separates digital-product refund rules from the physical Nintendo Store return policy. Read the applicable policy before buying: a downloaded game, an unopened physical order and a defective accessory may not have the same remedy. Save the receipt and account information associated with a digital purchase, and do not redeem a code until you have confirmed the region, platform and intended account.
EB Games’ online returns and exchanges are subject to verification and eligibility conditions. For a damaged delivery, photograph the shipping box and inner packaging immediately and contact the retailer promptly. Keep the receipt or order confirmation for warranty claims.
- Digital code risk: verify the account, region and platform before redeeming; redeemed codes may have different return treatment.
- Pre-owned risk: confirm condition, included parts and the applicable store or online return route.
- Compatibility risk: check whether the accessory is for Switch, Switch Lite, Switch OLED or Switch 2.
- Availability risk: limited bundles and demos can disappear when stock or the promotion period ends.
- Delivery risk: release-date items may be grouped together, delaying the whole shipment.
- Price-change risk: displayed prices, shipping charges and promotional terms can change, so use the amount shown in the final cart.
Bottom line for Canadian Switch shoppers
Start with Nintendo Store Canada for official exclusives, Nintendo hardware and merchandise, especially when your eligible order reaches the advertised $65 free-shipping threshold. Choose EB Games for physical games, pre-owned savings, local stores and replacement accessories, but include its shipping fee and delivery window in the calculation. Check Walmart, Best Buy and other legitimate online listings for a particular bundle, demo or local-stock advantage. The best purchase is the one with the right format, confirmed compatibility, acceptable return terms and the lowest complete delivered cost—not necessarily the lowest headline price.

Should I buy a physical or digital Switch game?
Choose physical if you value sharing between consoles, collecting or access to the used market. Choose digital for immediate download and no cartridge, provided your Nintendo Account has accessed the eShop and your console has internet access and enough storage.

Nintendo advertises free shipping on orders of $65 or more, with restrictions. Confirm that the items in your cart qualify and compare the final delivered total with other retailers.
How much does EB Games shipping cost?
EB Games describes standard shipping as $9.99 per shipment under $100 plus $1.50 for every additional $100. Express is $21.99 under $100 plus $1.50 for every additional $100. Verify the exact Switch model, included cable or power brick, condition, warranty and return route. For a controller, test charging, wireless connection and stick response during the allowed return period.
Are Nintendo Switch 2 accessories compatible with the original Switch?
Do not assume compatibility. Check the product’s model designation and the retailer’s compatibility information; Joy-Con 2 and Switch 2 Camera listings should be compared separately from original Switch accessories.
The Bottom Line
For Canadian buyers, Nintendo Store is the best first stop for official products and qualifying free shipping; EB Games is strongest for physical and pre-owned inventory, stores and replacement accessories; and Walmart, Best Buy or another established online retailer may win on a specific bundle or local-stock offer. Compare the complete delivered cost and policy details before paying.
