The Ocarina of Time remake is scheduled to launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. Nintendo’s official feature page describes the remake under five headings—not as a numbered list—but those headings point to five clear changes: updated presentation, new movement and camera controls, a more detailed and voiced Hyrule, the Threads of Time progress aid, and new ways to play ocarina melodies.
What are the five big changes?
Nintendo’s five published feature groups cover how the game looks and sounds, how Link moves, how the world and story are presented, how players track their progress, and how learned melodies are played. Here is what Nintendo has announced in each group.
1. Overhauled presentation and smoother performance
Nintendo says the remake completely overhauls materials and textures. It also promises faster loading, smoother performance, and snappier-feeling actions. The sound has been refreshed, and the score includes symphonic orchestral music. Nintendo has not provided a frame-rate target or a detailed technical comparison with earlier versions.
2. More direct movement and camera control
New button commands let Link jump and run freely. The right stick provides improved camera control; Nintendo’s US listing also describes enhanced jumping and dashing controls and modern camera movements. These are substantial control changes, but Nintendo’s announcement does not provide a full control map or explain how every original action has been reassigned.

3. A more immersive Hyrule
Characters are fully voiced in expanded cutscenes and have more dialogue. Locations have been remodeled with additional details, and players can move the camera freely. The day/night cycle will also continue in towns, rather than stopping there.
4. Threads of Time adds a progress display
Threads of Time lets players check story progress and their next objective at any point. A large tapestry gradually fills in as the adventure advances, offering a visual record of progress alongside the next-step information.

5. Learned melodies can be played by humming
When Link has learned a tune, players can hum its melody so he plays it on his ocarina. Nintendo says humming within range of the Switch 2’s built-in microphone can trigger the interaction. The announcement also says future playable and electric ocarinas will work with the game, but does not give complete specifications or release dates for those instruments.

Nintendo’s US store lists the game as a Switch 2 exclusive, with a release date of November 5, 2026. The US listing estimates a 27 GB download, supports TV, tabletop, and handheld modes, and lists one player. Nintendo cautions that game information may not be final at preorder, so treat the file size as an estimate.

Nintendo Australia confirms a physical edition. Its first print run is planned to have textured foil cover art while stock lasts. That is an Australian packaging detail; it does not establish that other regions will receive identical packaging, nor does it confirm local stock or pricing elsewhere.
What ZELDA NOTES adds
Nintendo is also bringing Ocarina of Time support to the ZELDA NOTES section of the Nintendo Switch App for compatible smart devices. This is a companion-app feature set, separate from the remake’s five in-game feature groups. Nintendo has announced:

- A daily record of accomplishments.
- An image-hint location challenge.
- A touchscreen virtual ocarina.
- Music scores that can be shared using QR codes.
- A daily quiz described as having over 2,000 questions; players can spend earned in-game rupees for additional attempts.
What Nintendo has—and has not—confirmed about extras
Nintendo says existing Zelda-series amiibo can grant in-game extras. Young Link and Young Zelda figures due in 2027 are described as unlocking retro-style masks. Nintendo has also announced future related merchandise, including a playable ocarina and a HORI electric ocarina, but has not supplied complete product specifications or release dates for those instruments.
Other announced products are separate from the game itself: a 1,750-piece LEGO The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time – Link & Epona display model for adults, expected in autumn 2027, and Hasbro’s Electronic Master Sword, described as 27 inches long with more than 15 touch- and motion-activated sounds, also expected in autumn 2027. Those are future announcements, not confirmation of current retail availability.

What is still unclear about the remake
Nintendo’s announcement identifies the major feature changes, but it does not provide a complete side-by-side specification against the Nintendo 64 original or the Nintendo 3DS version. It therefore does not establish which original content has been removed or altered. US pricing is also not established by the cited Nintendo listing, and the Australian physical-edition announcement does not settle prices, packaging, or stock in other regions. Check Nintendo’s regional store or local retailers for details as launch approaches.
