To use Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, you need the clock, its included USB-C cable, and a USB Type-A-to-USB-C AC adapter rated for at least 5V/1.5A (7.5W). The adapter is not included. Alarmo is a standalone alarm clock, so it does not require a Nintendo Switch or another Nintendo device. It works with standard Twin through King beds when placed within 20 inches (50 cm) of the bed edge, no more than 8 inches (20 cm) above the mattress, and with a clear view of the sleeper.
Its distinguishing feature is motion sensing: in Motion Mode, getting out of bed can stop the alarm and movement can trigger snooze. Physical controls provide Button Mode when motion sensing is unreliable or unsuitable. Built-in Wi-Fi is used for time synchronization, Nintendo Account linking, free scene downloads, and firmware updates; Nintendo says there is no camera and movement-related data is not shared.
What Nintendo Alarmo is—and what it is not
Alarmo is a dedicated motion-sensing alarm clock. It is designed to sit beside your bed, monitor movement in its field of view, and use that movement as part of the alarm interaction. In Motion Mode, the intended routine is to snooze by moving and dismiss the alarm by getting out of bed. If you prefer a conventional alarm interaction, Button Mode uses the clock’s physical controls.

Nintendo’s support FAQ describes it plainly: “Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo is a standalone product and does not interact with other devices.” That means Alarmo is not an accessory for a Nintendo Switch, smartphone, or smart-home hub. You do not need a console to set up or use the alarm’s core functions.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The product is still Wi-Fi capable, but that connectivity does not turn it into a general-purpose smart-home device. Wi-Fi supports specific Nintendo services: synchronizing the time, linking a Nintendo Account, downloading free scenes, and receiving firmware updates.
What you need before buying
The required power setup
An AC adapter is not included, although it is required to operate Alarmo. Nintendo specifies a USB Type-A-to-USB-C AC adapter that supplies at least 5V/1.5A, equivalent to 7.5W. The box includes the USB-C cable that connects the clock to the adapter, so you need to provide the wall-side power block.
Nintendo’s manual identifies the Nintendo Switch AC Adapter (HAC-002) as usable. You do not have to own that particular adapter; the practical specification to match is a USB Type-A output delivering 5V at 1.5A or more. Check the label or manufacturer’s specification before plugging in an adapter. A USB-C cable alone is not a power source.
| Item | Included with Alarmo? | Requirement or qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Alarmo clock | Yes | The main standalone clock |
| USB-C cable | Yes | Connects Alarmo to the AC adapter |
| USB Type-A-to-USB-C AC adapter | No | At least 5V/1.5A (7.5W) |
| Nintendo Switch | No | Not required; Alarmo does not interact with other devices |
| Wi-Fi connection | Not required for the basic standalone alarm | Used for time synchronization, account linking, free downloads, and firmware updates |
Physical space beside the bed
Before ordering, identify a stable, flat surface beside the bed where the clock can face the sleeper. Nintendo’s setup guidance calls for a position within 20 inches (50 cm) of the bed edge and no higher than 8 inches (20 cm) above the bed. The view toward the sleeper should be unobstructed. A deep shelf, tall stack of books, bedpost, or other object that blocks the sensor’s view can make motion detection less dependable.

Bed and household compatibility
Supported bed sizes
Nintendo says Alarmo can be used with any standard bed size from Twin through King. That covers the usual Twin, Full/Double, Queen, and King dimensions. The statement concerns standard bed sizes; it does not promise identical sensing results for every custom frame, unusually tall mattress, trundle arrangement, or room layout. Placement within the stated distance and height limits matters as much as the mattress label.
Two sleepers
Motion sensing is not a person-identification system. In a bed shared by two people, the alarm can stop when one sleeper gets up even though the other remains in bed. It can also restart while the second person is still lying down. If that behavior would be disruptive, plan to use Button Mode rather than relying on movement to decide when the alarm ends.
Pets, fans, and other moving objects
Nintendo warns that a pet, an electric fan, or another moving object in range can confuse motion sensing. A fan’s oscillation, a pet crossing the sensor’s view, or movement from a nearby object can be interpreted as activity. Place the clock so those sources are outside its view where possible. If the room cannot be arranged that way, Button Mode is the predictable fallback.
How to place and set up Alarmo
- Choose a flat surface. Use a bedside table or equivalent platform that will not wobble when you press the controls or connect the cable.
- Measure the position. Keep the clock within 20 inches (50 cm) of the bed edge and no more than 8 inches (20 cm) above the bed.
- Aim at the sleeper. Keep the path between Alarmo and the bed unobstructed. Do not place it behind a monitor, lamp, high headboard, or decorative object that blocks its view.
- Connect power. Plug the included USB-C cable into Alarmo and the other end into a USB Type-A AC adapter rated at least 5V/1.5A (7.5W). Connect the adapter to a wall outlet.
- Select an alarm interaction. Choose Motion Mode if the sensor has a clear view and the room is free of troublesome movement. Choose Button Mode if you share the bed, have a pet or fan in range, or want a conventional button-operated alarm.
- Connect Wi-Fi when needed. Use a Wi-Fi connection for time synchronization, Nintendo Account linking, scene downloads, and firmware updates. The clock’s basic standalone purpose does not depend on a Nintendo Switch.
- Test the physical arrangement. Before relying on Alarmo for an important wake-up, verify that the selected mode behaves as expected from your normal sleeping position and that the cable remains secure.
Motion Mode versus Button Mode
| Characteristic | Motion Mode | Button Mode |
|---|---|---|
| How snooze works | Movement is used to snooze | Physical controls are used |
| How the alarm stops | Getting out of bed is intended to stop it | You operate the controls like a conventional alarm clock |
| Best environment | One sleeper, clear sensor view, little incidental movement | Shared beds, pets, fans, obstructions, or preference for buttons |
| Main trade-off | More natural interaction, but sensitive to room and bed movement | More predictable, but requires reaching the clock |
Motion Mode is the reason to buy Alarmo instead of a basic digital alarm. It can make waking a physical routine rather than a search for a snooze button. The same sensor creates the principal compatibility limitation: anything that moves in its view can affect the result. Button Mode is not an emergency feature added after the fact; it is the appropriate operating mode when the motion assumptions do not fit your bedroom.

Scenes, sounds, and personalization
Alarmo uses themed scenes inspired by Nintendo Switch games. A Nintendo Philippines product page lists 74 scenes. That number is tied to that regional page and can change as catalogs or updates change, so treat it as a dated regional listing rather than a permanent worldwide total.
Wi-Fi enables free scene downloads. This gives the clock more content than a fixed set of sounds in the box, while keeping the device independent of a Switch console. Regional catalogs and update contents may differ, and Nintendo can change what is available, so confirm the current selection for your region before buying for a particular character, game, or theme.
Wi-Fi, Nintendo Account, and privacy
What Wi-Fi does
- Synchronizes the clock’s time.
- Links the device to a Nintendo Account.
- Downloads free scenes.
- Receives firmware updates.
Those are the connectivity functions identified by Nintendo. They are separate from the alarm’s core role as a standalone clock. Losing Wi-Fi therefore affects online conveniences and updates, not the basic premise that Alarmo is a dedicated alarm rather than a Switch accessory.

Nintendo says Alarmo has no camera and that movement-related data is not shared. The sensor can react to movement in the room, but the stated privacy position is that movement-related data is not shared. If a camera-free bedside device is important to you, this is a meaningful distinction from camera-based monitoring products.

Price and availability
Nintendo’s Canadian product page gives a suggested price of $99.99 USD and said retail availability was planned for early 2025. Nintendo’s Philippines product page lists March 27, 2025 as its regional release date. These statements describe specific pages and regions, not a guaranteed current price everywhere.
Stock, local pricing, taxes, and Nintendo Store access are volatile. Check the Nintendo store for your country or an authorized retailer immediately before purchase. Do not assume that a listing in one region ships to another, that a scene catalog is identical worldwide, or that an early-2025 availability statement still describes stock in 2026.
How Alarmo compares with ordinary alarm clocks
| Buying factor | Nintendo Alarmo | Ordinary button alarm | What to consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alarm interaction | Motion sensing in Motion Mode, physical controls in Button Mode | Physical controls | Choose Motion Mode only when the room supports reliable sensing |
| Bed compatibility | Standard Twin through King, within the placement limits | Usually independent of bed size | Alarmo needs a clear view and nearby position |
| Power hardware | Included USB-C cable; USB Type-A AC adapter required but not included | Varies by model | Budget for a compliant adapter if you do not already have one |
| Console dependence | No Nintendo Switch required | Normally none | Alarmo is standalone despite its Nintendo content |
| Content | Game-inspired scenes; a Philippines listing cites 74 | Usually fixed tones or radio sounds | Catalog size and availability can vary by region and updates |
| Camera and movement privacy | No camera; Nintendo says movement-related data is not shared | Typically no motion sensor | Confirm the privacy policy that applies to any alternative |
| Price and availability | Suggested price and stock vary by region and date | Wide range | Verify the local listing rather than relying on an old price |
Who should buy Alarmo?
It is a good fit when
- You want a Nintendo-themed alarm with an interaction different from tapping a phone.
- You sleep alone and can place the clock within the stated distance and height limits.
- You can keep pets, fans, and other moving objects out of the sensor’s view.
- You are comfortable supplying a USB Type-A-to-USB-C adapter rated at least 5V/1.5A.
- You value downloadable scenes and firmware updates but do not want to connect a Switch.
- A camera-free motion-sensing device is preferable for your bedside.
Consider another alarm or Button Mode when
- You share the bed and cannot accept an alarm stopping when the first person rises.
- Your bedroom has unavoidable fan movement, pets, or visual obstructions.
- You have no suitable flat surface near the bed.
- You want a product that includes a wall adapter in the box.
- You need guaranteed local stock or a particular scene that is not confirmed for your region.
Troubleshooting the most likely problems
The alarm reacts when nobody gets up
Look for a pet, oscillating fan, curtain, or another moving object in the sensor’s view. Reposition the clock so the object is outside that view while preserving the 20-inch (50 cm) distance, 8-inch (20 cm) height limit, and clear line of sight. If the source cannot be removed, switch to Button Mode.

The alarm does not stop when you get out of bed
Confirm that Alarmo is in Motion Mode, is aimed at the sleeper, and is not blocked. Recheck the clock’s height and distance against Nintendo’s placement guidance. A shared-bed arrangement can produce different results because the remaining sleeper is still moving or present; Button Mode avoids that ambiguity.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
The clock will not power on
Verify that the adapter is a USB Type-A-to-USB-C AC adapter providing at least 5V/1.5A (7.5W), that the included cable is fully inserted at both ends, and that the wall outlet works. The presence of a USB-C cable in the box does not mean the AC adapter is included.
Wi-Fi features are unavailable
Check the network connection and retry the operation. Wi-Fi is specifically used for time synchronization, Nintendo Account linking, free scene downloads, and firmware updates. The absence of a Switch is not the cause; Alarmo does not require one.
Buying checklist
- Confirm that the local Nintendo store or authorized retailer has current stock and pricing.
- Budget for a USB Type-A-to-USB-C AC adapter rated at least 5V/1.5A (7.5W).
- Measure for a flat surface within 20 inches (50 cm) of the bed edge and no more than 8 inches (20 cm) above the bed.
- Check that the sensor will have an unobstructed view of the sleeper.
- Identify pets, fans, or other moving objects that could interfere with Motion Mode.
- Decide whether a shared-bed situation makes Button Mode the better choice.
- Treat scene counts, regional release dates, and prices as changeable information.
Alarmo makes sense when its motion interaction and Nintendo scenes solve a problem you actually have. The purchase is straightforward once you account for the missing power adapter and the bedroom geometry: it is a standalone clock, supports standard Twin through King beds, and offers Button Mode when motion sensing is not a good match.
