GIFT Nifty pointed to a higher start on October 13, and The Times of India reported that the NIFTY 50 opened higher. But the previous session’s decline and the technical caution cited by analysts argue against treating that opening strength as a reliable all-day forecast. Support and resistance levels differ between reports, and the available figures do not establish how the index closed.
What the October 13 outlook says
The early signal was cautiously positive, not a confident bullish call. Before the market opened, GIFT Nifty was indicating a higher start. The opening report then confirmed that the NIFTY 50 began the session higher. Those are two distinct pieces of evidence: one was a futures-market indication ahead of the open, and the other was a report of the cash index’s opening level.
The caution comes from the prior session and the technical view attributed to Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities. Livemint reported that De saw a dark cloud cover pattern, which he interpreted as a sign that the previous session’s positive momentum was weakening. That is an analyst’s reading of a chart pattern, not a guarantee of what prices will do next.

Accordingly, “cautiously bullish” is best understood as a description of the setup at the open: the early indication was positive, while the recent price action and stated risks left room for volatility or a reversal. It is not a dependable prediction of the session’s final direction.

Key market figures and reported levels
| Measure | Figure | Source and context |
|---|---|---|
| NIFTY 50 prior close | 22,363.35, down 157.10 points (0.70%) | National Stock Exchange of India; October 12, 2026 close. |
| GIFT Nifty futures | 22,423.50 | NSE display at 13-Oct-2026 02:29 IST; a timestamped quote, not a live price for the full session. |
| Premarket indication | Around 22,423, nearly 41 points above the prior Nifty futures close | Livemint, October 13, 2026, 06:45 IST; its report said this indicated a positive start. |
| NIFTY 50 opening report | 22,437, up 73.95 points (0.33%) | The Times of India’s October 13 live coverage. |
| Support cited by analysts | 22,300 | Reported by both Livemint and The Times of India; these are attributed technical levels. |
| Additional downside levels if support breaks | 22,100 or lower | Rupak De’s conditional view as reported by Livemint; not an assured target. |
| Resistance cited by Livemint | 22,420 and 22,650 | Levels attributed to Rupak De. |
| Resistance cited by The Times of India | 22,800 and 22,900 | Levels in its October 13 coverage; a separate report with different levels. |
The resistance figures should not be combined into a single consensus range: the two reports give different analyst levels. Likewise, the futures indications and the cash-index opening are different measurements. NSE describes NIFTY futures as based on the NIFTY 50 benchmark, but a futures quote is not the same thing as the cash index’s realized price.
How to read the signals without overstating them
What the positive opening indication can tell you
A premarket futures indication can help describe the market’s expected direction at the start of trading. Here, Livemint’s report and NSE’s timestamped display pointed upward relative to the previous futures close. Because the quote was taken before or around the start of the session and can change, it should not be presented as a confirmed forecast for the whole day.

What the technical levels can—and cannot—tell you
Support and resistance are reference points used in technical analysis. The reports place support at the same level, but they diverge on resistance. De’s reported view also made the lower levels conditional on support giving way. These opinions can help readers identify what analysts were watching; they do not establish that the index must bounce, break down, or reach a stated level.
Why the cautious tone matters
Livemint quoted Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, saying: “Indian equities are likely to remain volatile and cautious as elevated crude oil prices, mounting inflation concerns and escalating geopolitical tensions weigh on investor sentiment.” The Times of India also cited crude prices, foreign investor selling, retail inflation, geopolitical developments, monetary-policy expectations, and weakness in global markets as risks. These are reasons the market could remain unsettled, not proof of a particular direction.

What this means for readers following Nifty futures
The evidence supports a narrow conclusion: the premarket setup and reported opening were positive, while the prior decline, technical commentary, and cited macroeconomic risks justified caution. The figures available here cover the October 12 close, a timestamped futures display, premarket commentary, and an opening report. They do not establish the October 13 closing outcome.
For anyone evaluating a futures trade, a directional forecast alone does not show whether a strategy is profitable or suitable. Futures involve risk, and the support or resistance views quoted in news coverage are not personalized investment advice. Treat each figure as belonging to its stated instrument, timestamp, and source rather than as a guaranteed trading signal.
