The Information announced on October 15, 2026, that Nick Wingfield is its new Executive Editor. In practice, he will share day-to-day publication leadership with founder and CEO Jessica E. Lessin and Amir Efrati while continuing to manage his team of reporters.
What changed at The Information
Lessin announced a senior newsroom reshuffle that elevates Wingfield to Executive Editor. TheWrap described the position as co-Executive Editor because Wingfield will oversee daily editorial operations alongside Lessin and Efrati. The official announcement says he will help maintain the publication’s reporting standards, run day-to-day publication and continue leading his existing reporter team.
The changes took effect in an organization preparing to expand its reporting staff and editorial coverage. Lessin presented the appointments as recognition of the newsroom’s work and a response to major shifts in how audiences consume news, including the spread of biased or false information.

Why The Information made the changes
Lessin said the next few years will demand a great deal from news organizations. She pointed to sweeping changes in audience behavior and warned that much of the information people encounter is biased or fake. Her case for the reshuffle is that The Information’s “high impact, ahead-of-the-curve, focused work no one else is doing” is designed for that environment.

- Planned expansion: Recruitment and new coverage areas are explicit parts of the finance and wider newsroom plans.
What is not yet known
The announcement does not specify how many journalists The Information plans to hire, which new desks will be created or whether Wingfield’s title will be formally styled “Executive Editor” or “co-Executive Editor” in every context. The official wording uses Executive Editor, while TheWrap uses co-Executive Editor to describe the shared operating arrangement.
