NIB Comprehensive is nib’s broadest international single-trip travel insurance plan, but “comprehensive” does not mean every expense or event is covered. nib’s current comparison lists unlimited overseas medical expenses and medical evacuation, alongside capped benefits for delays, luggage and rental vehicle excess. The policy wording, selected options and exclusions determine what applies to an individual trip.
What the CHOICE review tells you
CHOICE’s public page for “NIB Comprehensive review” identifies the product as a one-trip policy from nib, but its expert rating and score breakdown are available to members only. The public page therefore does not establish a rating or provide enough information to reproduce CHOICE’s full assessment.
For the policy itself, nib’s International Target Market Determination (TMD), effective 1 September 2026, positions Comprehensive as its broadest international single-trip plan, with higher limits than its other single-trip plans. The TMD is general target-market information, not personalized advice. nib says: “Customers must assess the cover offered to determine if it is suitable for their circumstances.”

These figures describe the displayed plan benefits, not a promise that any particular claim will be accepted. Check the applicable definition of each benefit and its conditions in the policy documents.
What to check before buying
nib’s comparison is a summary, not a substitute for the policy wording. The policy hub lists an international Comprehensive Plan Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) effective 17 September 2024. Read the PDS and the certificate for the specific purchase; the certificate and applicable wording establish the cover selected for that trip.

- Cancellation: Confirm the cancellation limit selected for your quote and the events and expenses the policy recognizes.
- Medical conditions: Check how pre-existing medical conditions are assessed and whether the relevant condition needs to be disclosed or separately accepted.
- Activities: Verify whether planned sports or other activities are covered, restricted or excluded.
- Baggage: Look beyond the overall luggage limit to item limits, sublimits and exclusions for valuables or particular belongings.
- Rental vehicle excess: Check the conditions and exclusions that apply to the listed excess benefit, and whether it matches your rental arrangement.
- Excesses and exclusions: Identify the excess that may apply to a claim and read the general and benefit-specific exclusions.
How to compare it with other cover
Compare nib Comprehensive with nib Essentials, Annual Multi Trip or another policy using the same trip details. Comprehensive is a single-trip plan; an annual multi-trip plan serves a different travel pattern, so the right comparison depends on how often and where you travel. For each option, review the cancellation limit, medical and evacuation benefits, delay rules, luggage item limits, rental excess, liability, coronavirus provisions, medical-condition rules, activity exclusions and excesses.
Then obtain a live quote for the same travelers, dates, destinations and trip details. No representative premium or typical claims outcome is established by the public CHOICE page or nib benefit comparison, so a general price or claims-success claim would be misleading. Confirm that the PDS version attached to the quote or certificate is the one that governs the policy you are considering.
