The right NFL stream depends on the specific game and your viewing market. Local Sunday-afternoon games generally come from CBS or FOX; Sunday Night Football is on NBC; Monday Night Football is on ESPN or ABC; Thursday Night Football and the Black Friday game are on Prime Video; Christmas Day games are on Netflix; and selected games are assigned to NFL Network or YouTube. NFL+ is useful for live local and primetime games on a phone or tablet, but it is not a complete television replacement and does not provide live out-of-market Sunday-afternoon games.
Use your ZIP code and the current schedule before paying. Then choose between a local-channel service, NFL+, NFL Sunday Ticket through YouTube or YouTube TV, or the particular national broadcaster carrying the game.
Start with the game, not the app
NFL streaming rights are divided by time window, market and device. A service can be excellent for one game and useless for another. The first question is not “Which NFL subscription is best?” It is “Which game am I trying to watch, where am I located, and on what screen?”
The NFL defines a local game as one available on television in your local broadcast market. That designation follows your location, not the team you support. A team you follow may be outside your market even if it is the only team you care about. The NFL’s support guidance recommends checking the schedule with its ZIP-code Ways to Watch lookup or local listings.

National windows have their own rights holders, and assignments can change by season or individual game. The current NFL guide identifies the following routes:

What NFL+ actually includes
NFL+ is a U.S.-only service, and the NFL says it is unavailable in U.S. territories. Its live regular-season and postseason video covers local and primetime games on supported phones and tablets. That combination of game type plus mobile device is the crucial boundary: a game can be available to you on NFL+ while still not being available on your television or computer through the same entitlement.
NFL+ live video
- Live local regular-season games on a phone or tablet.
- Live primetime regular-season and postseason games on a phone or tablet.
- Live out-of-market preseason games.
- Live game audio across supported devices.
- NFL Network access and the service’s included library content, subject to the current plan and device rules.
The NFL’s support page titled “What NFL games are available LIVE with NFL+?” is the controlling description of live access. It also warns that broadcast rights, location and blackout restrictions can affect availability. Do not assume that a connected television, desktop browser or game console receives the same live permissions as the mobile app.

NFL+ Premium
Premium adds NFL RedZone, NFL Pro, and full-game, condensed and All-22 replays. Those features are valuable for catching up or studying a game, but they do not turn NFL+ into an out-of-market Sunday-afternoon package. The NFL explicitly treats Sunday Ticket as a separate purchase route.
Plan features and supported devices are volatile. The NFL’s comparison page was updated February 18, 2026, while its product page identifies seven exclusive live NFL Network games for the 2026 season. Check the current plan description immediately before subscribing, particularly if you need television or web playback rather than a phone or tablet.
Local channels: the best route for an in-market Sunday
If the game is listed for your local CBS or FOX affiliate, a service that carries that affiliate is the normal television solution. This may be a traditional pay-TV provider or a live-TV streaming service, but eligibility and channel lineups vary by market. The NFL does not publish one universal provider lineup that applies to every ZIP code.

How to verify your local game
- Open the NFL schedule for the date you care about.
- Use the NFL’s ZIP-code Ways to Watch lookup or consult a local listings guide.
- Confirm whether the listing says CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN or ABC, rather than relying on the team’s home city.
- Check that your chosen provider carries the specific local affiliate in your address.
- Verify the device you intend to use. A provider login may be required for connected-TV and desktop/web viewing.
An antenna is not a substitute for rights verification. It may receive a local broadcast where a suitable signal exists, but it cannot deliver a game assigned to a different network or an out-of-market matchup. The decisive issue is the broadcast assignment and your market, not the presence of a particular gadget.

If you want a Sunday-afternoon regular-season game that is not being shown in your local market, NFL+ is the wrong live-video purchase. The NFL says those games require NFL Sunday Ticket, sold through YouTube and YouTube TV. It is separate from both NFL+ and NFL+ Premium.
This distinction matters for fans who follow a team in another city. A local-channel package can show the games selected for your market, while Sunday Ticket is the route designed for Sunday-afternoon games outside that local selection. Confirm the current season’s availability, residential eligibility and any location restrictions with the official YouTube or YouTube TV offering before buying.

What Sunday Ticket does not solve
- It is not a replacement for every national broadcast window.
- It does not change the broadcaster assigned to Thursday, Sunday night, Monday night or Christmas games.
- It does not make NFL+ mobile permissions broader.
- Blackout and location rules can still apply.
Use the network assigned to the game for national windows, and use Sunday Ticket specifically for the out-of-market Sunday-afternoon problem.

Television, web and mobile device rules
A subscription name does not guarantee every screen. NFL support material says connected-TV and desktop/web access may require sign-in through a cable or streaming provider, and it directs users to check supported providers. NFL+ live-game permissions are specifically described around phones and tablets for local and primetime video.
Before you subscribe, check five device questions
- Is the game live video, replay-only or audio-only under the plan?
- Is your intended screen a phone, tablet, connected TV, computer or game console?
- Will the app require a separate television-provider login?
- Is the device model and operating-system version supported?
- Does the service enforce location, blackout or simultaneous-stream limits?
If a stream works on your phone but not your television, that may be an entitlement rule rather than a technical fault. Sign out and back in with the correct provider account, update the app, confirm location permissions, and review the game’s rights before changing hardware.
Blackouts, location and territory limits
The NFL’s regular-season blackout guidance distinguishes local from out-of-market games and sends viewers to the ZIP-code lookup. A local game may be subject to the broadcast rules for your market, while an out-of-market game is not automatically unlocked by NFL+ Premium. Availability can also depend on where you are physically watching.

A practical decision guide
Choose a local-channel service when
- Your game is listed on CBS or FOX in your local market.
- You want to watch on a television or connected device.
- You also need regular access to local news or other network programming.
Choose NFL+ when
- You mainly need local or primetime live games on a phone or tablet.
- You want live audio and mobile access to the included NFL Network content.
- You understand that out-of-market Sunday-afternoon games are excluded from live NFL+ video.
Choose NFL+ Premium when
- You want NFL RedZone, NFL Pro and full, condensed or All-22 replays.
- You are buying replay and analysis features rather than an out-of-market live-game package.
Choose Sunday Ticket when
- Your priority is a Sunday-afternoon regular-season game outside your local market.
- You are prepared to buy it separately through YouTube or YouTube TV.
Use the dedicated national service when
- The game is Thursday night, Black Friday, Christmas Day, the São Paulo game or another specifically assigned exclusive.
- You have confirmed the current season’s broadcaster and account requirements.
Checklist before you pay
- Write down the exact game, date and kickoff window.
- Identify your viewing ZIP code and whether the game is local or out-of-market.
- Check the NFL schedule for the assigned network or service.
- Decide whether you need live video, replay, All-22 or audio.
- Match that need to the permitted device: phone, tablet, television or web.
- Confirm provider-login requirements and local affiliate availability.
- Review blackout, territory and travel restrictions.

The shortest accurate rule is: local Sunday afternoon means CBS or FOX in your market; out-of-market Sunday afternoon means Sunday Ticket; national windows follow their named broadcasters; and NFL+ is primarily a mobile live option for local and primetime games, with Premium adding replays and analysis rather than universal live access.
