A 30-minute Next.js deployment is a symptom, not a diagnosis. First find out whether the delay is in the build, after the build, or both; then use the logs to identify the slow phase. Without that deployment’s timing breakdown and logs, static generation, function bundling, checks, or any other cause cannot be confirmed.
What does the 30-minute figure include?
On Vercel, deployment build time and post-build time are reported separately in the dashboard, through vc inspect, and in the REST API. Vercel added this distinction in its September 2026 changelog: Deployment build and post-build duration now visible. The CLI command shown there requires version 59.23.1 or later.
Do not assume that a reported 30-minute duration is all framework build work. Vercel’s billable duration combines build and post-build time, then rounds up to a whole minute. Its changelog illustrates the distinction with a deployment showing 5m 9s of build time and 3m 21s post-build time, alongside 9m of billable duration. Those are documentation examples, not measurements of the deployments in this title.
How to locate the slow stage
- Check the timing breakdown. In Vercel, compare the build and post-build durations in the deployment dashboard, or use
vc inspectwith CLI version 59.23.1 or later. If you use another platform, first establish what its reported duration includes. - Read the build logs by phase. Note where time accumulates: framework page generation, repeated function builds, checks, or a post-build stage. A long total alone cannot distinguish among them.
- Choose a hypothesis from the slow phase. If page generation dominates, inspect generated routes and content variants. If function builds dominate, inspect function count and dependencies. If checks dominate, verify which checks already run in CI.
- Change one thing at a time and compare timings. Keep the same measurement boundaries so the before-and-after comparison tests the suspected cause rather than mixing build and post-build time.
Which build stages could be taking the time?
Static page and route generation
Large amounts of static work can extend a framework build. Vercel names page, route, locale, and CMS-entry volume among the factors that can increase build duration. If logs point to page generation, count the routes and content variants produced by the deployment and ask whether every one must be prerendered each time.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Where the application permits it, generating suitable pages on demand or using incremental static regeneration (ISR) can defer some work from deployment. That is a workload trade-off, not a universal speed fix: choose based on the app’s freshness requirements and how it renders pages. Vercel’s guidance describes these options in How can I reduce my build time? and Incremental Static Regeneration.
Vercel Function builds
Vercel says each Vercel Function is built independently. More functions, or larger functions, can add bundling, optimization, and caching work. If the logs implicate this stage, review the function count and the size of their bundles and shared dependencies. Consolidating functions may help where the application’s architecture allows it; avoid duplicating large dependencies across functions where practical. These are possibilities to investigate, not evidence that function work caused a particular 30-minute deployment. See Vercel’s build-time guidance.

Linting and TypeScript checks
Build-time linting or TypeScript checks may be duplicated if the same checks already run in CI. Vercel documents disabling ESLint or TypeScript checks during its build as an option in that circumstance. Before doing so, verify that CI runs the checks and remains a required quality gate; moving a check is different from dropping it. The guidance does not establish that checks are the cause of this deployment’s delay. See How can I reduce my build time?.

Run next build to surface production-build errors, and use @next/bundle-analyzer to inspect large modules and dependencies. The analyzer can help locate bundle contributors, but a large bundle alone does not prove that bundle size accounts for the full deployment duration. Compare the relevant timings before and after a targeted change. Next.js documents the analyzer at Package bundling.

How to decide whether an optimization fits
| Potential change | Useful when logs show | Trade-off or check |
|---|---|---|
| Defer suitable page generation with on-demand rendering or ISR | Time concentrated in static page or route generation | Confirm the app’s rendering and freshness needs; not every page is a good candidate. |
| Reduce or consolidate functions where practical | Repeated function builds or function bundling dominate | Consolidation must fit the app’s architecture; review dependency duplication and bundle size. |
| Move duplicate checks out of the platform build | Linting or TypeScript checks take measurable time and already run in CI | Keep those checks enforced in CI rather than removing the quality gate. |
| Investigate large modules and dependencies | Compilation or bundling is implicated | Use the analyzer to identify candidates, then test timing changes; bundle size is not by itself a measure of total deployment time. |
What can be concluded about a 30-minute deployment?
The duration alone does not identify its cause or establish how much time an optimization could save. Without the specific deployment’s stage timings, logs, repository, Next.js version, hosting configuration, and route inventory, it is not possible to say whether static generation, function work, checks, or post-build processing accounts for the delay. Start with the timing split, follow the logs to the longest phase, and treat each possible fix as a hypothesis to verify.
