The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is currently listed by Nintendo as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, with a listed release date of November 5, 2026 and an estimated 27 GB game file size. That 27 GB figure is provisional, so leave more free space than the estimate and expect Nintendo to confirm the final download size closer to launch. Nintendo’s current listing does not publish PC-style CPU, GPU or RAM requirements because this is a console release.
For the official platform, date and size information, see Nintendo’s product page for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time — Nintendo Switch 2.

At-a-glance requirements and storage
| Item | What Nintendo currently lists | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Supported console | Nintendo Switch 2 only | The listed edition is not presented as an original Nintendo Switch release. |
| Release date | November 5, 2026 | The date is the current product-listing date and could be updated by Nintendo. |
| Estimated file size | 27 GB | Plan for more than 27 GB of available storage because the figure is an estimate and updates can add data. |
| PC requirements | Not stated | This is a Switch 2 game, so there are no published Windows, macOS or Linux specifications to configure. |
| Final download size | Not final at preorder | Nintendo says ratings and download size may change before launch. |
Nintendo’s wording is explicit: the product is “Exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.” Its listing also warns, “It’s possible that information related to the game, including ratings and download size, may not be finalized at time of preorder.” Those two statements are the key to interpreting every current requirement claim.

What “system requirements” means for this Zelda release
The required platform
The requirement is a Nintendo Switch 2 console. Nintendo’s store page does not list a separate performance mode, optional graphics setting or minimum-versus-recommended configuration. Console games are designed around the hardware platform identified on the product page, rather than the selectable CPU, graphics and memory combinations used by PC games.
#1 Best Overall
- This is the world edition. It has different packaging but is fully authentic and works on US region 3DS systems.
- The Legend of Zelda veterans can look forward to the Master Quest - a second quest with revamped puzzles and redesigned dungeons.
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is a masterful improvement on one of the landmark releases in video game history.
- “E10+”, w/Animated Blood, Fantasy Violence, Suggestive Themes
Because this edition is listed as Switch 2-exclusive, an original Nintendo Switch should not be treated as a supported target for this product. Nintendo has not listed an original-Switch version on the cited product page. If you own the older console, verify any separate product announcement before buying; do not assume that an older cartridge or digital license will provide this Switch 2 edition.
What Nintendo has not published
The current listing does not provide processor model, graphics architecture, RAM requirement, display resolution, frame-rate target, operating-system version or an internet-speed minimum. Those omissions are normal for a console listing and do not imply that the game has no technical requirements. They mean Nintendo expects buyers to meet the console requirement and follow the console’s software and storage prompts.
If you are comparing this game with a PC release, there is therefore no legitimate PC minimum-spec table to apply. A computer with ample storage cannot run a Switch 2-exclusive product simply because it has more memory or a faster graphics card.
How much storage does the download need?
The current estimate is 27 GB
Nintendo currently estimates the game file at 27 GB. This is the only named storage figure in the current official listing. It should be read as a planning number for the game data, not as a promise that the final install will occupy exactly 27 GB on every console.
File-size displays can be revised when a publisher finalizes packaging, certification, compression and launch updates. Nintendo’s preorder notice specifically says download size may not be finalized. A later update could make the required space higher or lower, so check the product page and the console’s purchase screen again before downloading.
Why you should leave extra room
Do not fill the console to exactly 27 GB and expect the installation to succeed. A digital installation may need room for the downloaded package, the installed game and temporary files while the system verifies and applies it. A launch update can also require additional space. The safe approach is to keep a meaningful buffer beyond Nintendo’s estimate and recheck free space immediately before release.
The estimate applies to the game file as listed; it does not establish the total storage used by save data, screenshots, video captures, system software or other games. Those items are separate parts of your console’s storage budget.
Digital download versus a physical copy
For readers deciding how to manage storage, the practical choice is between the digital edition and a physical The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 edition. Nintendo’s listing establishes the 27 GB estimate for the product, but it does not state how much data a physical release will install or whether a day-one update will be mandatory. Use the following comparison as a planning guide rather than a guarantee of the final packaging.
| Consideration | Digital purchase | Physical purchase |
|---|---|---|
| Required console | Nintendo Switch 2, as listed by Nintendo | Nintendo Switch 2, as listed for this edition |
| Storage consumed | Plan around the estimated 27 GB, plus headroom and any updates | May reduce downloaded game data, but Nintendo has not stated the final install requirement for the physical edition |
| Download or update | Downloading the game is inherent to the purchase; later updates may add data | A download or update may still be needed; the current listing does not promise a completely download-free launch |
| Switching games | Convenient when you want to change games without handling a card | Requires keeping the game card available when you change games |
| Ownership preference | Stored in your Nintendo account and console library | Provides a collectible, physical copy that you can store separately from the console |
If your immediate goal is to reduce the amount of downloaded game data kept on the console, check the physical The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 edition. Treat “reduce” rather than “eliminate” as the realistic expectation until Nintendo publishes the physical package’s installation details.
How to prepare your Switch 2 for the download
1. Confirm the product and console
- Open Nintendo’s product listing and verify that the title is the Switch 2 edition, not a similarly named release for another platform.
- Check that your console is a Nintendo Switch 2 and that its system software is current. Nintendo’s listing does not provide a separate game-specific firmware number, so use the update prompt supplied by the console.
- Recheck the listed release date—November 5, 2026—because preorder pages can be updated.
2. Check available storage
- Open the console’s System Settings.
- Go to the storage or Data Management area and review free space on the internal storage and any installed expansion storage.
- Compare the available space with the current 27 GB estimate, then leave additional room for temporary installation files and updates.
Menu wording can change with system software, but the relevant information is the free-space figure, not the total capacity printed on the console or card. If the free-space number is close to the estimate, remove or archive games you are not playing before launch rather than waiting for an installation error.
3. Decide what to move or delete
- Start with games you can redownload and do not currently use.
- Review screenshots and captured video, which can consume storage without being obvious in a game list.
- Keep save data and any games you cannot easily restore protected. Use the console’s own archive, delete and redownload options so you do not remove valuable saves accidentally.
- If you use expansion storage, confirm that it is recognized by the console before relying on its free space.
4. Download with a stable connection
A 27 GB download can take substantially longer on a congested or slow connection. Start when the console can remain powered and connected, and avoid interrupting the process. The exact download time depends on your connection and Nintendo’s final package size; no official time estimate is currently published.

5. Recheck space after installation
Once the game is installed, return to Data Management and note the remaining free space. Install any launch update offered by the console, then check again. This gives you a realistic baseline for future patches instead of relying on the preorder estimate alone.
Can you play it on the original Nintendo Switch?
Nintendo currently labels this product “Exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.” That makes Switch 2 the supported platform for the listed edition and means owners of the original Switch should not buy it expecting compatibility. The listing does not announce an original-Switch port, cross-generation entitlement or a conversion from an existing digital purchase.
If Nintendo announces another edition, its storage requirement and platform support could differ. Check the exact product name and platform badge on the store page before purchasing, especially if your account shows multiple Zelda products.

What to do if the download will not fit
You have less than the estimate available
Free space below 27 GB is an immediate warning that a digital installation may fail. Archive or delete an unused game, move captures off the console, or use supported expansion storage. Then restart the download after confirming the new free-space figure.

The 27 GB number is an estimate of the game file, not necessarily the temporary workspace required during installation. Close other software, restart the console, check for a pending system update and free additional room before trying again. If the final package is larger than the preorder estimate, Nintendo’s updated listing or the console’s purchase screen should take precedence.
The download stops or appears corrupted
Check the network connection, resume the download from the console’s software-management screen and avoid repeatedly cancelling it. If the problem persists, restart the console and verify that the storage device is recognized. Do not assume that a failed download proves the game requires more than 27 GB; network interruptions and temporary storage can produce the same symptom.
A physical copy still asks for a download
That can be normal. A physical release may include the core game on the card while a launch patch, language data or other content is delivered online. Nintendo has not yet published the physical edition’s final install size or update policy, so keep some free storage even if you choose a card.
What is still unknown before launch
Several details remain open because Nintendo says the preorder information is not final:
- The final digital download size.
- The size of any day-one or post-launch update.
- The physical edition’s required installation space.
- Whether an internet connection is needed for first launch, beyond downloading updates or digital content.
- Any special Switch 2 system-software requirement.
- Performance targets such as resolution and frame rate.
These are not missing numbers that can be safely inferred from the 27 GB estimate. Use Nintendo’s product page and the console’s final purchase and installation prompts as the authoritative sources when the game is ready to download. Nintendo’s official news index also lists an October 14, 2026 Ocarina of Time overview-trailer update: The Legend of Zelda official news.
Bottom line for buyers
Plan for a Nintendo Switch 2, not the original Switch, and reserve more than the currently estimated 27 GB. The listed release date is November 5, 2026, but Nintendo warns that download size and other information can change before preorder details are finalized. Digital is the simplest option if you want instant library access; a physical copy is the direct choice if you want to limit downloaded game data and own a collectible card, while still allowing for a possible update.
