For an easy first setup, compare the Sony PS-LX310BT and Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT: both are belt-drive turntables with Bluetooth and automatic conveniences, while Sony also specifies USB and RCA connections. If you want to explore more feature combinations, Pro-Ject’s Debut range includes models with an integrated phono preamp or USB recording. There is no single best choice for every system; the right deck depends on how you want to play records and what you already own.

Start with the system you already have

A turntable needs a compatible path to speakers or headphones. Before choosing a model, check whether your existing audio equipment accepts Bluetooth, a line-level RCA connection, or a phono-level signal. A built-in phono preamp can simplify connection to equipment without a dedicated phono input by providing a line-level output.

  • Bluetooth speakers or headphones: Choose a model that supports Bluetooth if you want to avoid a wired connection. Confirm that your listening device can pair with a turntable.
  • Powered speakers or an amplifier with a line input: A turntable with a built-in phono preamp and line output can connect without a separate phono preamp.
  • Amplifier with a phono input: A turntable’s phono output can connect to that input. Check the turntable’s manual and output settings so the signal path is appropriate.
  • Digitizing records: Look for USB recording specifically; USB availability is not universal across a product range.

Connections are not interchangeable simply because they use familiar cables: a phono-level output and a line-level input serve different roles. Check the model’s documentation and your audio equipment’s inputs before buying.

Convenience or a more hands-on setup?

Automatic operation

The Sony PS-LX310BT specifies one-step auto playback, automatic return and auto stop. TechRadar describes the AT-LP70XBT as automatic and pre-calibrated. These features reduce the steps involved in starting and ending playback, which can be useful for a first turntable or a casual listening setup.

Choosing among feature configurations

Pro-Ject’s catalog covers a wider range of Debut configurations and groups models by features such as an integrated phono preamp and USB recording. That makes it especially important to compare the individual model rather than assume that every Debut turntable has the same connections. The available evidence does not establish a full comparison of cartridge upgrades or adjustment options, so consult the current manual for any model you are considering before relying on a particular upgrade path.

Check record speeds before you buy

The Sony PS-LX310BT and Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT list support for 33 1/3 and 45 rpm records. Sony explicitly states that the PS-LX310BT does not play 78 rpm records; its support page answers, “No. Your turntable can only play records at 33 rpm and 45 rpm.” TechRadar’s November 2025 Debut Carbon Evo guide lists 78 rpm as well, but check current official documentation if that speed matters to you.

Do not assume that all records use the same speed. If your collection includes 78 rpm records, confirm support for that format on the exact turntable model rather than relying on a family name or a retailer’s abbreviated listing.

A practical checklist for a first turntable

  1. List your audio inputs. Check whether your speakers or amplifier accept Bluetooth, line-level RCA, or phono input.
  2. Choose the signal path. If your equipment has no phono input, look for a turntable with a built-in phono preamp and line output, or plan for a separate phono preamp.
  3. Decide how much automation you want. Auto start and return can make everyday playback simpler; a more hands-on deck may suit you if you prefer direct control.
  4. Match the speed support to your records. Confirm the listed speeds on the model’s official page or manual, especially if you need 78 rpm.
  5. Verify the exact configuration and local price. Model features and availability can differ; prices were not established in the cited materials.

What the vinyl revival does—and does not—tell you

The Recording Industry Association of America reported 46.8 million vinyl units sold in the United States in 2025, marking the nineteenth consecutive year of growth. That figure is useful context for the format’s US market, but it is not a measure of global demand for turntables or a guarantee that any particular model is easy to find.
