Clone Pikachu is an Electric-type Pokémon GO variant, so Ground attacks are its only listed weakness. Ground moves deal 160% damage, while Electric, Flying and Steel moves deal 62.5%. The strongest simulated standard-raid counter is Primal Groudon with Mud Shot and Precipice Blades. Mega Mewtwo Y, Shadow Groudon, Mega Garchomp, Shadow Excadrill and Therian Landorus are other leading choices.
Do not confuse this encounter with Gigantamax Pikachu. Gigantamax Pikachu is fought in a Max Battle, where an Excadrill using Max Quake is the clearest attacking recommendation and roles such as defender and healer matter.
What is Clone Pikachu weak to?
Clone Pikachu has the Electric typing for this encounter. Its type chart, published by Dittobase in 2026, lists Ground as the only weakness, with Ground attacks dealing 160% damage. That makes Ground damage the foundation of any counter team.

|---|---|---|
| Ground | 160% | Prioritize Ground moves and Ground-focused attackers. |
| Electric | 62.5% | Avoid relying on Electric attacks. |
| Flying | 62.5% | Flying moves are a poor damage choice for this matchup. |
| Steel | 62.5% | Steel attacks are resisted and should not be your main damage plan. |
The practical answer to “Can I beat Pikachu with Ground types?” is yes: Ground is the matchup to build around. A Pokémon’s species, Mega or Shadow status, move availability and survivability still affect which Ground attacker performs best, so simply bringing any Pokémon that knows one Ground move is not the same as bringing a top counter.

Clone Pikachu and Gigantamax Pikachu are different encounters
The word “Pikachu” covers two battle contexts that use different systems. Clone Pikachu is evaluated as a regular raid target, while Gigantamax Pikachu is a Max Battle boss. Counter lists from one format should not be transferred to the other without checking the encounter label.
| Encounter | Battle format | Weakness | Best-supported attacking recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clone Pikachu | Standard raid | Ground moves | Primal Groudon with Mud Shot and Precipice Blades in the cited simulation |
| Gigantamax Pikachu | Gigantamax Max Battle | Ground moves | Excadrill using Max Quake |
A March 27, 2026 Pokémon GO Hub guide describes Gigantamax Pikachu as an Electric type that is only weak to Ground moves and calls Excadrill the clear best attacker for that Max Battle. The guide also assigns separate roles to a Dynamax Latias defender and Dynamax Blissey healer. Those role recommendations belong to the Max Battle system, not to the ordinary Clone Pikachu raid ranking below.
Best standard-raid counters for Clone Pikachu
The following ranking uses Dittobase’s 2026 simulated results. DPS means simulated damage per second; estimated time to win is the model’s predicted duration for the encounter. These are comparison figures, not guarantees of an individual player’s result.
| Rank | Counter | Fast move | Charged move | Simulated DPS | Estimated time to win |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Primal Groudon | Mud Shot | Precipice Blades | 66.01 | 54.5 seconds |
| 2 | Mega Mewtwo Y | Psycho Cut | Future Sight+ | 63.18 | 57.0 seconds |
| 3 | Shadow Groudon | Mud Shot | Precipice Blades | 61.53 | 58.5 seconds |
| 4 | Shadow Regigigas | Hidden Power Ground | Crush Grip | 60.31 | 59.7 seconds |
| 5 | Mega Garchomp | Mud Shot | Earth Power | 59.08 | 60.9 seconds |
| 6 | Shadow Excadrill | Mud Slap | Scorching Sands | 58.15 | 61.9 seconds |
| 7 | Therian Landorus | Mud Shot | Sandsear Storm | 57.89 | 62.2 seconds |
| 8 | Mega Mewtwo X | Psycho Cut | Dynamic Punch+ | 57.88 | 62.2 seconds |
| 9 | Shadow Mamoswine | Mud Slap | High Horsepower | 56.87 | 63.3 seconds |
| 10 | Incarnate Landorus | Mud Shot | Earth Power | 56.36 | 63.9 seconds |
Primal Groudon is the highest damage-per-second option in this particular simulation, with the shortest estimated time to win among the ten listed entries. Its result is tied to the exact Mud Shot and Precipice Blades combination shown in the table; changing the moveset changes the comparison.
If you do not have Primal Groudon
Mega Mewtwo Y is the next-ranked entry even though the table shows Psychic fast and charged moves rather than a Ground moveset. Shadow Groudon keeps the same listed Ground moves as Primal Groudon and ranks third. Mega Garchomp, Shadow Excadrill, Therian Landorus, Shadow Mamoswine and Incarnate Landorus provide additional Ground-oriented options at different performance levels.
Shadow Regigigas appears fourth because the simulation uses Hidden Power Ground, while its charged move is Crush Grip. Mega Mewtwo X also appears in the ten despite using Psycho Cut and Dynamic Punch+. These entries show why a counter list is a model output rather than a simple list of Pokémon that all share one typing: the ranking incorporates the complete attacker, its moves and the battle assumptions.

1. Confirm the encounter form
Check that the lobby or event identifies Clone Pikachu as a standard raid. If the interface identifies a Gigantamax Max Battle, stop using the ordinary raid table and follow the Max Battle section instead.
2. Check the complete moveset
Open each candidate and verify both the fast and charged moves. The listed simulation assumes the pairs shown above, such as Mud Shot with Precipice Blades for Groudon and Mud Slap with Scorching Sands for Shadow Excadrill. A different charged move can change damage output, energy timing and the resulting order.
3. Balance damage and survivability
Higher DPS is useful only while the attacker remains on the field. Pokémon GO Hub notes that its ranking model considers typing, weather, DPS, total damage output, Shadow adjustments, energy and related settings; estimated time to win and faint counts can differ from field results. If your team repeatedly faints, a slightly lower-ranked option that stays active longer may produce a better practical result.
4. Account for special forms and availability
Mega, Primal and Shadow entries require access to those forms and their relevant resources. Signature or event-associated moves may not be available through ordinary move changes at all times. Use the highest-ranked listed option for which you can assemble the stated moveset; do not delay a raid solely to match the first row if a lower-ranked option is ready.
5. Consider the current battle conditions
Weather, friendship bonuses, Party Power and raid settings can alter real outcomes. The published values are simulations under a defined model, not a promise that every player will see 66.01 DPS or finish in 54.5 seconds. Treat the numbers as a way to compare options under the same assumptions.

Recommended team-building approach
A practical party starts with your strongest available entry from the table and fills the remaining slots with the next options you can power and equip correctly. Keep the attack plan consistent: Ground-focused damage should do the work, while resisted Electric, Flying and Steel attacks should not occupy valuable charged-move slots for this matchup.
- Best simulated lead: Primal Groudon with Mud Shot and Precipice Blades.
- High-ranking alternatives: Mega Mewtwo Y, Shadow Groudon and Shadow Regigigas using the listed move pairs.
- Ground-heavy depth: Mega Garchomp, Shadow Excadrill, Therian Landorus, Shadow Mamoswine and Incarnate Landorus.
- When resources are limited: favor a correctly equipped, sufficiently powered option over an unequipped Pokémon that ranks higher only on paper.
Before entering, inspect the party preview for move names and forms. After the battle, compare whether the issue was damage, survivability or timing: replacing a resisted attacker improves type effectiveness, while replacing an attacker that faints quickly requires a sturdier or better-powered choice.
Clone Pikachu moves and encounter numbers
Dittobase lists Thunder Shock and Wild Charge as Clone Pikachu’s best raid moveset. In that listing, the moveset produces 8.54 DPS and 56 total damage output, and Clone Pikachu is ranked #253 among Electric attackers.

| Raid catch range with weather boost | 616–670 CP | Listed weather-boosted catch range |
| Maximum CP | 1,060 | Dittobase maximum-CP listing |
The boss’s own moveset does not change the type-chart rule: Ground remains the listed weakness, and Electric, Flying and Steel remain the listed resisted attack types. The moveset information is useful when deciding how much survivability your counters need, while the catch ranges help identify the encounter after a successful raid.
Gigantamax Pikachu: the separate Max Battle plan
For Gigantamax Pikachu, use the Max Battle recommendations rather than the standard-raid ranking. The March 27, 2026 Pokémon GO Hub guide recommends an Excadrill Dynamax attacker with Mud-Slap or Mud Shot and Max Quake. It identifies Excadrill as the clear best attacker for this boss.
Attacker
Build the attacking role around Excadrill and its Ground Max Move, Max Quake. The guide allows either Mud-Slap or Mud Shot as the fast move. This is a Max Battle recommendation, so the relevant comparison is Max Move performance and role execution, not the ordinary raid DPS table.

Defender
The same guide recommends Latias in its Dynamax form as the defender. A defender’s job in this setup differs from the attacker’s: it is selected for the Max Battle role rather than simply maximizing raid damage.

Healer
Dynamax Blissey is recommended as the healer. Keep this role distinction intact when preparing the party; substituting a standard raid attacker for the healer or defender slot changes how the Max Battle team is meant to function.
Max Particle cost
The listed Gigantamax Pikachu Max Battle cost is 800 Max Particles. Check that cost before entering so you have enough Max Particles for the encounter.

Using the wrong Pikachu guide
Symptom: You are looking at a standard raid counter list while the game shows a Gigantamax Max Battle, or vice versa.
Fix: Identify the battle format first. Clone Pikachu uses the ordinary raid comparison; Gigantamax Pikachu uses Max Battle roles and Max Quake recommendations.
Bringing a resisted attack because the Pokémon looks strong
Symptom: A high-CP team performs poorly despite including familiar Electric, Flying or Steel attackers.

Fix: Inspect the actual move types, not only the Pokémon species. Those three attack types are listed at 62.5% damage in this matchup, so replace them with the Ground-focused move pairs in the counter table where possible.
Assuming the top simulation is a guaranteed result
Symptom: Your clear time or number of faints does not match the published estimate.
Fix: Treat the figures as controlled comparisons. Weather, friendship bonuses, Party Power, energy timing, Shadow adjustments, raid settings, dodging and individual move execution can change the field result. Recheck the moveset and strengthen the party before concluding that a counter is ineffective.
Ignoring move availability
Symptom: You own the listed Pokémon but cannot select the required signature or event-associated move.
Fix: Use another entry whose complete listed moveset you can assemble. A correctly equipped alternative is more useful than an unequipped top-ranked Pokémon, and the ranking itself assumes the exact moves shown.
Quick Recap
Quick decision guide
- Standard Clone Pikachu raid: choose Primal Groudon with Mud Shot and Precipice Blades if available.
- No Primal Groudon: move down the table to Mega Mewtwo Y, Shadow Groudon, Shadow Regigigas or Mega Garchomp, checking the stated moves.
- Need more Ground depth: use Shadow Excadrill, Therian Landorus, Shadow Mamoswine or Incarnate Landorus with their listed pairs.
- Gigantamax Pikachu: switch formats completely; use Dynamax Excadrill with Mud-Slap or Mud Shot and Max Quake, with Dynamax Latias as defender and Dynamax Blissey as healer.
- Before launch: verify the form, moves, resources and, for the Max Battle, the 800 Max Particle cost.
