The game behind that comparison is IKUMA – The Frozen Compass, a survival adventure starring a stranded boy and his husky. Steam lists both solo play, with the option to switch characters, and co-op with a friend—but the “like It Takes Two” line is a loose comparison, not evidence that the games share the same design. Steam’s listing describes the premise and features; it lists the game as planned for 2026 and not yet available.
What is IKUMA – The Frozen Compass?
Developed and published by Mooneye Studios, IKUMA – The Frozen Compass is set in 1864. Players follow Sam, a cabin boy, and Ellie, his loyal husky, after they become stranded on an uncharted Arctic island. The advertised story centers on surviving the environment, investigating a mystery, and trying to get home. Steam’s product page is the source for these details.

The premise gives the headline its dog-player hook: Ellie is one of the two characters, alongside Sam. The listing says their skills differ, but it does not provide enough detail to establish how those abilities compare with the character roles or puzzle design in It Takes Two.
How does co-op work?
Steam describes two ways to play: tackle the adventure alone and switch between Sam and Ellie, or play cooperatively with a friend. The store page identifies shared/split-screen co-op and Remote Play Together. Those are advertised modes, not a hands-on assessment of how the final game plays.

The official description also mentions exploring, foraging, gathering tools and items, climbing, and fishing. Players are meant to use the characters’ different skills to overcome obstacles while managing limited supplies and cold. Since the game is not yet available according to the listing, these details describe planned features rather than independently verified gameplay.
Is it really like It Takes Two?
Only in the broad sense that the headline points to a cooperative adventure involving two distinct characters. The available description supports a more specific picture of IKUMA: an Arctic survival story about a boy and a husky, playable solo or with a friend. It does not establish that the game matches It Takes Two in its mechanics, level design, production values, or quality.

A secondary co-op roundup also characterizes IKUMA as a story-based split-screen game featuring a teenage boy and a dog. That framing reinforces the co-op comparison, but it is not evidence that the two games are equivalent or that IKUMA has been tested. The roundup offers secondary context; Steam remains the source for the game’s listed features.
