Choose the NETGEAR Orbi 770 if you want a system sold in two- or three-node packs with a clearly advertised coverage figure, or need a compatible Orbi satellite later. Choose eero Pro 7 if you value two 5 GbE ports per unit, want to use a Pro 7 as either gateway or extender, or already have eero devices. Neither manufacturer’s maximum-speed claim establishes which system will be faster in your home; there is no controlled head-to-head test in the available evidence.

These are manufacturer specifications, not results from equivalent testing. In particular, do not read the Orbi “up to 11 Gbps” and eero “up to 3.9 Gbps” labels as a same-conditions speed contest: the figures may be defined differently and do not predict the speed a particular client will receive through walls or over a mesh link.
Which system makes more sense for your home?
Pick Orbi 770 when pack size and stated coverage guide the decision
NETGEAR sells the Orbi 770 in two- and three-unit configurations, with published maximum coverage claims for each. That makes the pack options easy to compare against a home’s approximate size, but square-footage claims are not guarantees: walls, floors, interference, node placement, and building layout affect actual coverage. The RBE770 satellite is an option for expanding an existing Orbi 770 system; it is not a general-purpose mesh node for other brands.

Each Pro 7 has two 5 GbE ports, which can suit a multi-gig internet connection or a wired network path. The port rating is not a promise of 5 Gbps wireless throughput. eero describes the system as suitable for plans up to 5 Gbps, while its support page separately lists wired speeds up to 4.7 Gbps and wireless speeds up to 3.9 Gbps.

eero is the more natural fit if you already use eero hardware and want to add a Pro 7 as a gateway or extender. The manufacturer says older-generation eero devices can work with it, but mixing generations may reduce overall network performance; it recommends Wi-Fi 7 eero hardware for optimal performance.
Coverage: why the advertised figures do not name a clear winner
NETGEAR’s figures distinguish between its two- and three-unit Orbi 770 packs: up to 5,500 sq. ft. for two units and up to 8,000 sq. ft. for three. eero’s technical-specifications page is internally inconsistent, stating up to 2,000 sq. ft. per device in its introduction and up to 2,500 sq. ft. per device in the hardware section. Because of that conflict, a precise eero coverage comparison cannot be made from that page alone.

Even consistent “up to” claims are not a guarantee for an individual home. Treat them as vendor estimates, then factor in the number of floors, construction materials, node locations, and whether a wired backhaul is practical. For eero, verify the current official coverage figure before relying on a per-device estimate.

The eero Pro 7 has two auto-sensing 5 GbE ports per unit. eero lists wired speeds up to 4.7 Gbps and recommends the system for internet plans up to 5 Gbps. Those numbers describe wired capabilities and suitability claims, not the wireless speed every device will experience.

NETGEAR’s cited RBE770 satellite specifications list two 2.5 Gbps LAN ports and support for optional multi-gig Ethernet backhaul, alongside MLO backhaul. Wired backhaul can connect mesh nodes over Ethernet instead of relying solely on a wireless link, but the provided Orbi product details do not establish equivalent port specifications for every component in every package. Check the exact configuration before planning a wired layout.
Adding nodes and mixing equipment
- Existing Orbi 770: The RBE770 is the documented add-on satellite. NETGEAR says it requires an Orbi 770 Series mesh system; it is not a universal mesh extender. The vendor advertised up to 2,750 sq. ft. of additional coverage for the satellite. NETGEAR RBE770 details
- Existing eero network: Pro 7 may be configured as a primary gateway or extender. Older-generation eero units may be combined with it, but eero warns the mix can reduce network performance and recommends other Wi-Fi 7 eero devices for optimal performance. Price comparisons are most useful when the node count is matched. A three-pack against a single unit is not an equivalent purchase, and the cost of expanding later depends on the compatible add-on hardware and the price available at that time.
Setup, warranty, and optional services
eero setup and management require its Android or iOS app. Its Pro 7 package includes a 27W power adapter and a Cat6a Ethernet cable, and the support page lists a limited three-year warranty. eero also lists compatibility with eero Plus and eero Business. On the cited purchase page, eero Plus was displayed at $9.99 monthly after a one-month trial or $99.99 annually after a two-month trial; terms and offers can change. eero support specifications eero shop

- Compare Ethernet port speeds with your internet plan and whether you can run Ethernet between mesh nodes.
- Favor the system that fits your existing mesh ecosystem if you plan to reuse hardware, while accounting for eero’s stated older-generation performance caveat.
- Compare the same pack size and refresh prices, subscription terms, and availability before buying.
- Do not treat aggregate Wi-Fi speed labels or device-capacity ceilings as controlled measures of real-home performance.
