To find the WiFi password for your NETGEAR extender, connect to the extender, open mywifiext.net, sign in, and go to Settings > Wireless > General. Check WiFi Password: if the option is Same as existing network password, use your router’s WiFi password; if it is Use a different password, the extender’s separate key appears as Network Key. This is different from the administrator password used to open the settings page.

Find the WiFi password in the extender settings

  1. Connect your phone or computer to the extender’s network.
  2. Open a browser and visit mywifiext.net.
  3. Sign in with the administrator credentials you chose when setting up the extender.
  4. Open Settings > Wireless, then look under General.
  5. Read the WiFi Password setting. If it says Same as existing network password, devices use the router’s WiFi password. If it says Use a different password, check the displayed Security Type and Network Key.

NETGEAR documents this lookup path in its password instructions. Menu labels can vary by model or software version; if yours differs, use the support page or manual for your extender’s model.

WiFi password or administrator password?

These credentials serve different purposes. The WiFi password (also called a network key) lets a phone, computer, or other device join the extended wireless network. The administrator credentials let you sign in to the extender’s settings page to view or change its configuration.

NETGEAR’s FAQ lists admin as the username and password as the password for some extender web interfaces, but these are not the WiFi key and are not universal credentials. Use the administrator details selected during setup. Defaults vary by device, and newer products require a changed administrator password. See NETGEAR’s extender password FAQ and credential guidance.

  • DEAD ZONES, ELIMINATED: Bring WiFi 5 to the rooms your router cannot reach - bedrooms, garage, basement, and backyard - with up to 1,500 sq. ft. of added coverage for up to 25 devices, from any wall outlet
  • EASY SET UP: Use the NETGEAR Nighthawk app for guided setup, or press WPS on your router and the extender
  • STREAM AND BROWSE WITHOUT BUFFERING: Keep HD video, calls, and everyday devices smooth where signal was weak, with up to 1.2 Gbps (AC1200) across the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. Real-world speeds vary depending on connected devices and internet plan
  • WIRED CONNECTION WHEN YOU NEED IT MOST: Connect a smart TV, game console, or desktop straight to the extender for a stable wired link. This is a 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet port, not Gigabit
  • WORKS WITH THE ROUTER YOU ALREADY HAVE: Connects to any router or gateway from Xfinity, Spectrum, AT&T, Cox, or Verizon and rebroadcasts its signal. It extends your router, it does not replace it, with no closed ecosystem to lock you in

If mywifiext.net does not open

The address to use can depend on whether the extender and router broadcast different network names (SSIDs) or share one. NETGEAR documents these access options:

  • Different SSIDs: connect to the extender and try mywifiext.com.
  • Same SSID: use the extender’s IP address to open its web interface.

These steps are described in NETGEAR’s access and password guidance. If you do not know the extender’s IP address or cannot reach the interface, check the model’s instructions and confirm your device is connected to the extender.

  • EASY SET UP: Use the NETGEAR Nighthawk app for guided setup, or press WPS on your router and the extender
  • SPEED FOR A HOUSEFUL OF DEVICES: Stream in 4K, game, and connect a houseful of devices with up to 5 Gbps (BE5000), around 2.7x faster than previous WiFi. Real-world speeds vary depending on connected devices and internet plan

If you cannot sign in to the settings page

Try the administrator username and password you created during setup. If you cannot remember the password, use the password-recovery link on the sign-in page if it is available. Do not confuse a failed administrator login with a wrong WiFi password: the network key is checked when joining WiFi, while the administrator password is checked at the settings page.

NETGEAR documents model-specific setup behavior: a new extender may use the setup network name NETGEAR_EXT, and an extended network may use the original network’s password or a separately configured password. For example, the documented behavior for the default extender network name and password settings should not be assumed to cover every model or configuration.

Reset only if password recovery fails

A factory reset is a last resort because it removes your personalized configuration and requires you to set up the extender again. NETGEAR Support says, “A factory reset deletes all personalized settings including your user name, password, network name (SSID), and security settings.” Read NETGEAR’s factory-reset instructions before proceeding.
