In the memo, Peters and Sarandos wrote: “We need to be disciplined about where we prioritize our people and resources” while investing in future growth and “high impact areas to improve our service.” They also acknowledged the human cost: “Decisions like these are never easy, and we don’t take them lightly.”

How the reported percentage compares with Netflix’s workforce
Netflix’s 2025 Form 10-K reported approximately 16,000 full-time employees worldwide at the end of 2025. Using that disclosed baseline, 6% would be about 960 positions, which is broadly consistent with the reported estimate of roughly 1,000. Efficiency and concentration
A company may combine overlapping work, simplify reporting lines or move resources from mature projects to newer priorities. Those changes can produce layoffs even when revenue or customer demand is not described as weak.
