Restart your Samsung phone and check that it can reach the internet before changing Netflix settings. If the connection works, update Netflix and Android, then use the error code or symptom to choose the next step. The right fix depends on whether Netflix is missing, crashing, failing to play, or buffering.
Start with the checks that do not erase anything
- Restart the phone. Power it off completely, turn it back on, and try Netflix again.
- Check the connection. Open a web page, or visit fast.com to test the connection. If pages do not load, address the phone’s internet connection first. If possible, switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data to see whether the problem follows one connection. Netflix explains that a browser error or page that will not load means the device is not connected to the internet in its Android troubleshooting steps.
- Update Netflix and Android. Samsung Galaxy users can get Netflix through the Galaxy Store; Netflix’s general Android instructions also cover updating through the Play Store. Install available updates, then retry the app.
If Netflix crashes or will not open
Clear Netflix app storage
If restarting and updating do not help, open Netflix’s App info on the phone and use its Storage or Storage & cache controls to clear app data. Samsung menu names and paths vary by model and Android version. Clearing storage deletes Netflix downloads and signs you out, so confirm you know the account password before proceeding.
Reinstall as a later step
Uninstall Netflix and reinstall it from the device’s app store if clearing data does not resolve the problem. Reinstallation also removes downloads and signs you out.

- Error (-400): Set date, time, and time zone to automatic or network-provided values. Netflix says a mismatch with the current time and location can prevent the service from working. See Netflix’s date and time guidance.
- Error (-14): Netflix says this usually points to a network connection problem. Compare Wi-Fi with mobile data, and follow the connection checks above. Its (-14) help page gives error-specific steps.
- Playback error (1.1): Netflix says stored information on the device may need refreshing; clearing app data or reinstalling can help. See the (1.1) troubleshooting page.
If the problem seems limited to your home Wi-Fi
Restart the home network if other internet-dependent services are also having trouble, or Netflix works on mobile data but not Wi-Fi. Turn off the phone, unplug the modem and router for 30 seconds, reconnect them, wait about a minute, then turn the phone on and test Netflix. Some equipment takes longer than a minute to reconnect.

If Netflix is missing or will not install
Netflix’s Samsung-specific guidance says Galaxy phones and tablets use the Galaxy Store. Its latest app requires Android 9 or later on Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets, while older app versions can have different requirements; an older phone is not guaranteed to be able to install or run the latest version. Device model, region, store availability, and software changes can affect whether Netflix is offered. Netflix also warns that rooted or modified Android versions may prevent downloading or running the app. Check Netflix’s app availability guidance and Android install and update troubleshooting for the specific device situation. If the device is not Play Protect certified and the app is unavailable, Netflix says a supported device is needed.
If Netflix plays, but not in HD
Open Netflix’s Playback Specification diagnostics and check Widevine. Netflix says Android HD playback requires Widevine L1; a device reporting L3 can play only in SD. If the diagnostics report L1 but HD still is not working, update Netflix and contact support if the issue continues. Compatibility details are in Netflix’s Android device guidance.
