Netflix Games is the better value if you already pay for Netflix and want an included library on an Android phone, iPhone, or iPad. Apple Arcade is the stronger choice for a dedicated gaming subscription: it offers hundreds of premium games, explicitly supports online and offline play, removes ads and in-app purchases, and can be shared with up to six family members.
There is no universal winner. Your devices, existing subscriptions, favorite genres, offline requirements, and household size determine which service makes more sense. Netflix lists more than 80 exclusive mobile games, while Apple describes Apple Arcade as access to hundreds of premium games. Catalogs, prices, and device support change, so check the current title lists and local plan pages before subscribing.
Netflix Games and Apple Arcade at a glance
These services solve different problems. Netflix Games is an included benefit of an active Netflix membership. Apple Arcade is a separate gaming subscription, although it can also be obtained through an Apple One bundle. Netflix Games does not add a separate game charge to an active Netflix membership. You sign in with the Netflix account you already use, choose a profile, and download supported games from Google Play or the App Store. The game itself is installed through the platform store, while eligibility is checked through your Netflix account.

Netflix describes the mobile service as “Unlimited access to more than 80 exclusive mobile games.” The number is a catalog snapshot rather than a permanent guarantee: titles can be added, removed, or changed, and a game’s availability may differ by device or country.
How Netflix handles saves and profiles
Netflix says game progress can be saved locally or in the cloud. The exact behavior depends on the title and its implementation. Because games use Netflix profiles, select the same profile each time if you want the expected save data. An active membership is required for continued access; cancelling the membership or deleting the profile associated with progress can affect your ability to play or recover that progress.
Mobile scope versus the separate TV beta
The comparison here concerns Netflix’s Android and Apple mobile games. Netflix has also described games on TVs and computers as a separate beta available only on selected devices and in selected countries. Do not assume that a game available on a phone is available through the TV beta, or that the beta has the same controls, catalog, or eligibility rules.

Apple describes Apple Arcade as unlimited access to hundreds of premium games, including new releases, award winners, and App Store favorites. The service is designed as a game catalog rather than an extra attached to a broader entertainment membership. You subscribe directly or receive it as part of an Apple One plan, depending on your country and the bundle you choose.
Apple’s product description promises “Play online or offline.” That is an explicit service-level claim, although a particular title can still have a one-time download, update, or connectivity requirement. Download a game while connected before travelling, and keep enough storage available for the app and future updates.

Apple-platform reach
Apple Arcade extends beyond iPhone and iPad to Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Vision Pro. A title’s presence in the Arcade catalog does not mean that its version is available on every one of those devices. Check the device badges and requirements on the game’s listing before assuming that a save, control scheme, or purchase works across platforms.
Which catalog is better?
Size is not the same as fit
Apple’s published “hundreds” is a larger stated collection than Netflix’s “more than 80 exclusive mobile games.” That difference matters if you want the broadest selection or regularly finish games and need new choices. It does not establish that Apple Arcade has better games for every player. A smaller catalog can be more useful when it contains the specific series, genre, or play length you want.
Use named games as the deciding test
Make a short list of three to five games you would actually play. Check whether each title is currently listed, whether it runs on your device, and whether your preferred save and controller behavior is supported. Compare the live catalogs rather than relying on launch-lineup articles, because both services change their selections.
- Choose Netflix’s catalog first when you value Netflix exclusives, want games bundled into a membership you already keep, or prefer to avoid adding another recurring bill.
- Choose Apple Arcade’s catalog first when the larger premium collection, Apple-platform coverage, or a particular Arcade title is more important than the bundle price.
- Do not infer quality from quantity. Neither company’s published description supplies an objective quality ranking or a like-for-like review score.
Cost and value: how to compare without a misleading price claim
Netflix’s marginal cost can be zero
If you already pay for a Netflix plan for television and films, Netflix Games has no separate game fee. The relevant question is whether the games add enough value to your existing plan. Subscribing to Netflix solely for games means paying the full local Netflix membership price, whose tiers and availability vary by country.
Apple Arcade is a separate line item, unless bundled
Apple Arcade normally requires its own paid subscription. Apple One can bundle Arcade with other Apple services, so the incremental cost may be lower for someone who already wants that bundle. The exact price, trial terms, taxes, and bundle composition depend on country and plan; there is no reliable single global price pair to place beside Netflix.

A practical household calculation
- Write down the subscriptions you would keep even without games.
- For Netflix, count the game cost as zero only if you would retain an active Netflix membership for its other content.
- For Apple Arcade, calculate the added monthly amount of the standalone plan or the incremental cost of the Apple One tier you would otherwise not buy.
- Divide the cost by the number of people who will actually play, while observing each service’s account and family rules.
- Recheck the calculation when a trial ends or a promotional price expires; a temporary introductory offer is not a permanent rate.
This method avoids calling one service “cheaper” without specifying a country, plan, household, or existing subscription.
Device compatibility and ecosystem choice
When Netflix fits better
Netflix Games is aimed at Android phones and tablets, iPhone, and iPad. It is useful for a household that mixes Android and Apple mobile devices, provided each person’s device meets the individual game’s requirements. You do not need to move everyone into the same mobile operating system to use the catalog.
When Apple Arcade fits better
Apple Arcade is the more capable choice if the same subscription should cover iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Vision Pro. This wider device range is valuable for someone who starts a game on a phone and prefers a larger screen later, but the game listing must confirm availability on both devices. A title may be present on one Apple platform and absent on another.
Check requirements before downloading
For either service, verify the operating-system version, compatible hardware, storage requirement, controller support, age rating, and country availability shown on the game’s current store listing. “Included” describes the subscription entitlement; it does not override a game’s technical requirements.
Offline play and travel
Apple Arcade has the clearer offline promise
Apple explicitly states that Apple Arcade games can be played online or offline. Download the title and any required content while connected, then test it in airplane mode before a flight or trip. Some games may still require a connection for updates, account checks, multiplayer, or a first launch.

Netflix requires a title-by-title check
Netflix documents downloads and local or cloud saves, but the cited mobile documentation does not promise that every Netflix game works offline. Open the game’s store description or in-game requirements and look for an offline note before depending on it without a connection. If offline play is essential, test the exact title after installation rather than assuming that downloading it is sufficient.
Ads, purchases, and what “included” means
Netflix’s stated mobile-game promise is: “No ads. No extra fees. No in-app purchases.” Apple likewise describes Apple Arcade games as having no ads or in-app purchases. That removes the common free-to-play interruptions and purchase prompts inside included titles.
It does not mean that every associated cost disappears. You still need the underlying Netflix or Apple subscription, a compatible device, storage, and an internet connection for downloading updates. A game can also offer optional features outside the subscription environment, so read the current listing if a specific purchase or service is important to you.
Family sharing, profiles, and account risk
Apple’s six-person sharing model
Apple says one Apple Arcade subscription supports up to six family members. Set up Apple’s family-sharing group with the organizer’s Apple ID, then have members use their own Apple IDs. This keeps saves and recommendations separate while sharing the subscription entitlement. The six-person limit is a maximum, not a requirement; a single player receives the same catalog without needing a family group.

Netflix games use Netflix accounts and profiles rather than an Apple-style six-person game subscription. Each player should use the appropriate profile so progress is associated with the expected identity. Access depends on the Netflix membership remaining active and on the account’s profile rules. If the relevant profile is deleted, its progress can be affected; cancelling the membership also removes the entitlement to play.

Which approach suits a household?
Apple Arcade is easier to budget as one game subscription shared with up to six family members. Netflix is attractive when everyone already uses one Netflix account and wants occasional games, but its value depends on how your Netflix plan and profiles are managed. Neither service should be treated as a way to bypass the account, age, or country restrictions of the underlying platform.

- Confirm that your Netflix membership is active and that the intended player has a usable Netflix profile.
- Open the Netflix app on a supported Android device, iPhone, or iPad and find the mobile-games section.
- Select a game to view its platform-store listing, age rating, storage needs, and any title-specific requirements.
- Install the game from Google Play or the App Store, then launch it and sign in with the Netflix account and profile requested by the game.
- Play briefly while connected, close and reopen the title, and verify where progress is saved before relying on it for travel.
- Repeat the check for every player and device; compatibility is determined per game, not only by the fact that the phone runs Netflix.
How to start with Apple Arcade
- Open the App Store’s Arcade area on an Apple device and review the current catalog.
- Choose a standalone Apple Arcade subscription or an eligible Apple One plan. Review the local price, billing date, and trial terms shown for your Apple ID.
- Open a game’s listing and confirm which Apple devices it supports, its storage requirement, and whether your preferred controller or input method is listed.
- Download the title while online, launch it once, and install any required content or updates.
- If you share the plan, configure Apple’s family-sharing group and have each member use their own Apple ID.
- Test the downloaded game in offline mode if travel is a requirement, because offline support is advertised at the service level but individual titles can have their own launch or multiplayer conditions.
Common problems and fixes
The game does not appear
Catalogs differ by country, device, and operating-system version. Check that the correct account region is in use, install pending system updates, and search the platform store directly. A title may have left the catalog or may be unavailable on that particular device.
The download fails or the game will not install
Free storage, stable Wi-Fi, and a supported operating system are basic requirements. Remove unused downloads, restart the store app, and compare the device specifications with the current listing. Do not assume that a game’s presence in the subscription makes an older phone compatible.

Progress is missing
First confirm that you launched the game with the same Netflix profile or Apple ID used previously. Netflix may save locally or in the cloud depending on the title; deleting a Netflix profile can affect its progress. On Apple devices, check that the expected Apple ID and game-related cloud settings are active before reinstalling. Avoid deleting app data until you know where the save is stored.
Offline mode does not work
For Apple Arcade, connect once, finish the initial download, and install updates before going offline. For Netflix, consult the individual title’s requirements because downloaded status alone does not establish offline support. Multiplayer, account verification, and fresh content may require a connection on either service.
A family member cannot access the subscription
On Apple Arcade, verify that the person is in the organizer’s family group and is signed in with the intended Apple ID. On Netflix, confirm that the membership is active and that the player is using a permitted profile. Account-sharing behavior is governed by each company’s current terms, so do not create duplicate subscriptions until those settings are checked.

Choose Netflix Games when most of these statements are true
- You already maintain Netflix for non-game entertainment.
- Your primary devices are Android phones, Android tablets, iPhone, or iPad.
- You want a curated set of more than 80 Netflix mobile exclusives rather than the largest possible catalog.
- You prefer no additional game bill and are comfortable checking offline behavior per title.
- Your household already understands Netflix profiles and does not need a single six-person gaming entitlement.
Choose Apple Arcade when most of these statements are true
- You want a dedicated gaming service with hundreds of premium games.
- You play across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, or Apple Vision Pro.
- Guaranteed service-level offline support is a priority.
- You want one subscription shared with up to six family members.
- You already subscribe to, or are considering, an Apple One plan that includes Arcade.
Keep both only for a specific reason
Having both can make sense when Netflix is already part of your entertainment budget and Apple Arcade supplies games or device coverage that Netflix does not. It is difficult to justify both solely on catalog size; identify the titles, screens, and offline use cases that the second subscription adds. Revisit the decision when a favorite game leaves a catalog, a household changes devices, or a bundle price changes.

- The current catalog in your country, not an archived launch list.
- The exact local price, renewal amount, taxes, and trial or promotional conditions.
- Whether your device and operating-system version support the games you want.
- Whether the specific Netflix title supports offline play.
- Whether Apple Arcade’s games you want run on every Apple device you plan to use.
- How your household will handle Netflix profiles or Apple family sharing.
- Where each game stores progress and what happens if you cancel, change accounts, or delete a profile.
Because both catalogs and platform requirements evolve, these checks are more reliable than a permanent ranking. The right choice is the subscription that supplies the games you will play on the devices you own at a cost that fits the subscriptions you would keep anyway.
