Nekome: Nazi Hunter is a planned single-player, third-person action game about Vano Nastasu, a young Romani survivor who hunts the Nazi soldiers responsible for murdering his family. Its defining idea is cathartic revenge: players scout routes, set traps, assassinate targets and then fight through brutally stylized close combat.
ProbablyMonsters has not announced a final release date. As of October 16, 2026, the project is presented with a “Wishlist Now” call to action; a Steam demo has been reported for October 19–26, 2026, while broader release coverage points provisionally to 2027.
What kind of game is Nekome: Nazi Hunter?
Nekome: Nazi Hunter is a single-player, third-person action game set against a war-torn World War II backdrop. Instead of presenting the conflict as a conventional military campaign, it follows one survivor’s personal vendetta. Vano Nastasu’s family is murdered by Nazi soldiers, and the game tracks his transformation from hunted survivor into a relentless hunter.

Who is Vano Nastasu?
Vano is a young Romani man whose family’s murder provides the story’s emotional engine. That perspective matters because the game frames the war through a persecuted civilian’s revenge rather than through a soldier’s chain of command. The result is a narrower, more intimate point of view than a broad campaign about fronts, armies or military objectives.
Why the game is described as a power fantasy
Game director and ProbablyMonsters general manager Jeronimo Barrera has described the project as an attempt to deliver a kind of cathartic anti-Nazi fantasy that games rarely center. In a March 30, 2026 interview with PCGamesN, Barrera said, “We’re big fans of Inglorious Basterds and Sisu, and we thought that kind of player fantasy was missing in games.”
He also explained the intended escalation in unusually direct terms: “Look, we love punching Nazis in the face, it’s so much fun in games. We’re taking it to the next level, though – if you thought it was fun punching Nazis, it’s even more fun to kill ’em.” Those comments describe the game’s tone more clearly than a generic “action game” label does. Nekome is designed to make the player feel dangerous, feared and emotionally unrestrained.

The premise is cathartic, but its subject is still serious. The family murder, Romani identity and Nazi persecution are not incidental decoration; they establish why the revenge is personal. The tension in the concept comes from combining that historical trauma with exaggerated, grindhouse-style entertainment.
How stealth and combat work together
Preparation before the fight
Nekome is not presented as a game in which every encounter begins with an arena brawl. Route scouting and assault planning are central activities. A player can study movement, approach from a safer angle, use the environment and decide which enemy should be removed first. Stealth routes and timed combat responses are part of the described mission design, alongside propaganda destruction and improvised weapons.
Direct brawling and finishing moves
When concealment fails—or when the player chooses a louder approach—the combat shifts into close-range violence. Preview coverage has compared the feel of the action to Batman: Arkham and Sifu, while the developer describes grounded finishing moves presented with a visceral, grindhouse edge. The comparison suggests readable melee timing and counters rather than a conventional cover shooter, but it does not mean Nekome is a licensed crossover or a replica of either combat system.

Enemy awareness, notoriety and fear
Enemy awareness is shared and persistent. A careless kill can alert nearby patrols, while taking too long can allow reinforcements to arrive. That design makes stealth a continuing condition rather than a one-room puzzle: the consequences of an action can carry into the next phase of an encounter.
IGN’s preview also describes a notoriety system. Repeated kills can make nearby enemies panic or flee, turning Vano’s reputation into a tactical resource. This creates a useful risk-and-reward choice: a spectacular attack may remove a dangerous target, but it can also change how every surviving enemy behaves.

What “grindhouse” means for the tone
ProbablyMonsters’ official description emphasizes visceral combat, while an October 15, 2026 interview said the art team drew on grindhouse films and graphic novels. The purpose is to make the violence stylized and entertaining without pretending that the underlying subject matter is light.

That combination explains why the game can sound both historically grounded and deliberately excessive. Vano’s identity and the murder of his family give the story a serious emotional foundation. The exaggerated finishers, fear reactions and revenge mechanics then turn that foundation into a heightened player fantasy. Readers who dislike graphic executions or exploitation-film aesthetics should treat those elements as core to the experience, not optional flavor.

Is Nekome inspired by Sisu?
Yes. Barrera specifically named Sisu alongside Inglourious Basterds as an influence. The connection is the image of an apparently hunted individual becoming an almost unstoppable force against Nazi pursuers. Nekome translates that cinematic escalation into interactive decisions: when to hide, when to set a trap, when to risk a loud kill and how to handle the response that follows.
When can you play Nekome: Nazi Hunter?
The project is still in development. ProbablyMonsters currently directs visitors to wishlist the game, and preview coverage has described builds as pre-alpha or alpha. Game Informer reported a Steam demo window of October 19–26, 2026. Because October 16, 2026 is before that window, the demo should be treated as an upcoming, time-limited opportunity rather than proof of a full launch.
