For 4K play, set the game to 3840×2160, begin with high visual quality, and judge success by consistent frame delivery rather than a headline average. Electronic Arts says the PC version can reach “up to 4K/60 FPS” depending on the player’s system, so 60 FPS is a conditional target, not a guarantee for every desktop or laptop.

The most reliable approach is controlled tuning: keep resolution fixed, test the same type of driving repeatedly, and change one graphics option at a time when pacing is uneven. This lets you identify the setting that costs performance on your own hardware without sacrificing more image quality than necessary.

What “4K/60” means in Hot Pursuit Remastered

The game’s maximum output target is 3840×2160 (4K UHD) at up to 60 frames per second. EA used that wording in its November 6, 2020 launch announcement, and explicitly made it dependent on the player’s system: Need for Speed™ Hot Pursuit Remastered Is Available Now. That qualification matters because frame rate depends on the graphics processor, processor, memory, driver, laptop power mode, cooling, display behavior and the scene being rendered.

A single published test cannot define a universal hardware threshold. DSOGaming reported a constant 60 FPS at 4K with maximum settings on its particular simulated dual-core test configuration, but that is one older test result, not a promise that every similarly named CPU or GPU will behave the same way: DSOGaming’s PC performance analysis.

Use 60 FPS as a practical objective if your system can deliver it with even frame times. A fluctuating 45–60 FPS experience can feel less smooth than a consistently lower output, especially during rapid turns, heavy traffic or effects-rich scenes.

Set the correct 4K baseline before changing quality

  1. Confirm the display mode. Select 3840×2160 in the game or in the display configuration when your monitor or television supports that resolution. The game’s support for 4K UHD is also listed in the technical summary at PCGamingWiki; that page’s menu details are reported here as a reference rather than an independently checked menu capture.
  2. Use the display’s native refresh mode. If your screen is 60 Hz, a stable 60 FPS target is sensible. If it has a higher refresh rate, do not assume the game will produce more than its stated up-to-60-FPS capability.
  3. Start with high quality. This is a sensible starting point, not a verified universal preset. Keep 3840×2160 unchanged while you evaluate image quality and pacing.
  4. Drive a repeatable route. Use the same event, route section or type of traffic for each comparison. A short, repeatable test is more useful than changing settings while moving between unrelated scenes.
  5. Record smoothness, not just the counter. Note stutter, sudden drops and uneven motion. If your overlay provides frame-time information, look for spikes rather than chasing a single peak number.

What each graphics setting changes

The reported PC graphics controls include texture quality, texture filtering, environment level of detail (LOD), vehicle LOD, shadows, reflections, ambient occlusion and anti-aliasing. The table below describes a tuning strategy for those controls. It is editorial guidance, not a measured ranking of frame-rate impact for every system.

Control What you see How to tune for 4K smoothness
Texture quality Surface detail on roads, cars, scenery and objects. Keep high while memory allows. Lower it only after more obviously expensive effects have been reduced, because it primarily changes clarity and texture detail.
Texture filtering Sharpness of surfaces viewed at an angle or into the distance. Use the highest setting that remains smooth. Reducing it can make roads and scenery look softer, particularly during fast driving.
Environment LOD Distance at which environmental geometry and detail are displayed. Reduce this if distant scenery or broad views cause pacing problems. Check for earlier detail transitions after each change.
Vehicle LOD Detail level for cars and vehicle models at distance. Lower it when traffic-heavy scenes are the problem. Inspect groups of cars rather than judging only an empty stretch of road.
Shadows Shadow resolution and presence from vehicles and the environment. This is a logical early reduction when GPU load is high. Compare under trees, beside buildings and in traffic, where shadow work is visible.
Reflections Reflected scenery, road surfaces and vehicle surroundings. Try reducing this before textures if reflections coincide with drops. Wet or glossy surfaces make the visual difference easiest to spot.
Ambient occlusion Small contact shadows where objects meet the ground or one another. Reduce it if you need additional headroom after reflections and shadows. The scene may look less grounded, but geometry and textures remain intact.
Anti-aliasing Jagged edges and shimmering on geometry, wires and distant objects. Choose between FXAA, SMAA and TAA according to your own clarity and motion preference. No comparative benchmark establishes one as universally fastest or sharpest.

A one-change-at-a-time tuning procedure

1. Establish a high-quality reference

Run the chosen route with resolution fixed at 3840×2160 and the quality controls at their high starting values. Observe several minutes of driving, including the busiest section you normally play. This reference shows what you are trying to preserve; it is not a claim that the setting will sustain 60 FPS on every machine.

2. Remove the largest visible source of instability

If motion is uneven, lower reflections first, then shadows, then ambient occlusion. This order is a practical quality-first workflow based on the available controls, not on a published setting-by-setting benchmark. Make one change, repeat the same route and keep the change only if pacing improves without an unacceptable visual loss.

Acer Nitro 27in 4K 3840x2160 IPS 160Hz DFR 320Hz Gaming Monitor VG270K V4 | 0.5ms, AMD FreeSync Premium, 2xHDMI 2.1, DisplayPort, Speaker, VESA Mountable, Bluelight Filter, Flickerless Technology
  • Quality Visuals: The VG270K 27" IPS monitor with 3840 x 2160 UHD resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio presents stunning, high-quality images with excellent detail. The zero-frame design does away with the thick frames found on conventional monitors freeing up precious screen space.
  • AMD FreeSync Premium Technology: Say “goodbye” to stuttering and tearing. With AMD FreeSync Premium, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and provides the smoothest gaming experience.
  • Quick Refresh Rate: Different content has different refresh rate and resolution requirements. If you are playing an FPS or racing game, you will need a monitor with a high refresh rate. However, if you are doing office work or streaming videos, a higher resolution will be more beneficial. With DFR technology, users can choose a higher resolution, or a higher refresh rate based on what is suitable for them.
  • Responsive: Up to 0.5ms GTG (Gray to Gray) response time enhanced gamers’ in-game experience. No matter if the fast-moving action or any dramatic transitions will be rendered smoothly without the annoying effects of smearing or ghosting.
  • ZeroFrame Design: With a Nitro VG270K monitor, you’ll want to see as much of the display as possible. Get more real estate with the near bezel-less design, allowing you to see more and do more. The ZeroFrame design lets you place multiple monitors next to each other for a seamless, almost uninterrupted view.

3. Adjust geometry detail if distant scenes remain heavy

When drops occur mainly in wide views or traffic, test environment LOD and vehicle LOD individually. Lowering environment LOD affects scenery detail and transition distance; lowering vehicle LOD can be more appropriate when many cars are visible. Do not change both at once if you want to know which control helped.

4. Touch textures only when necessary

If the previous changes are insufficient, test texture quality and texture filtering separately. Watch for softer surfaces and less-defined road detail. Keep the higher value when performance is already stable and the lower value produces no meaningful improvement.

5. Select anti-aliasing by appearance

Test FXAA, SMAA and TAA on the same moving scene. Look at thin roadside objects, guardrails and distant vehicle edges while turning. Keep the mode that gives the best compromise between shimmer, softness and pacing on your system; available evidence does not justify a universal winner.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

6. Stop when frame delivery is consistent

Once the busiest repeatable section is smooth enough for your target, do not keep lowering settings merely to create unused headroom. Recheck after changing drivers, power modes, resolution or display refresh, because those changes can alter the result.

Choosing an image-quality priority

Your priority Starting choice Next adjustment if it is not smooth
Maximum detail 3840×2160 with high quality, then test anti-aliasing modes. Reduce reflections, shadows and ambient occlusion one at a time.
Stable motion 3840×2160 with high textures but conservative effects. Lower LOD controls if traffic or distant scenery causes drops.
Sharper edges Compare FXAA, SMAA and TAA on moving geometry. Keep the clearest mode that does not introduce distracting pacing problems; there is no published universal ranking.
Limited graphics memory Begin with high effects but monitor texture behavior and stutter. Test texture quality and filtering after the effect controls, preserving resolution if possible.

Diagnose the type of slowdown before lowering settings

GPU-limited behavior

If lowering reflections, shadows or ambient occlusion improves the same busy scene, the graphics processor is likely carrying most of the load. Continue with the least noticeable reduction, and leave textures or LOD higher when they are not contributing to the problem.

CPU- or traffic-limited behavior

If drops appear when many vehicles or environmental objects are visible and effect reductions do little, test vehicle LOD and environment LOD. The available evidence does not provide a universal CPU requirement, so use the repeatable route rather than a generic processor label to decide.

Stutter without a sustained low frame rate

Brief pauses can come from background activity, shader or asset loading, thermal limits, power-saving modes or a driver state rather than one graphics option. Close unnecessary applications, use the system’s performance power mode when appropriate, check temperatures and retest the same route. These checks do not prove a cause, but they separate a transient problem from a consistently overloaded setting.

Laptop-specific checks

  • Plug in the charger before testing; many laptops reduce graphics performance on battery.
  • In the operating system’s graphics settings or the graphics driver panel, assign the game to the dedicated GPU rather than integrated graphics.
  • Use a performance-oriented thermal profile if your laptop provides one, and make sure vents are unobstructed.
  • Restart the game after changing the GPU assignment or graphics options, then repeat the same route.
  • Judge the result after the system has reached normal operating temperature, since a short cold-start test can hide thermal throttling.

Hardware and display expectations

EA’s product page contains the game’s official system-requirements section, but the published material available here does not expose requirement values that would support a universal 4K hardware recipe: Need for Speed™ Hot Pursuit Remastered. Therefore, do not treat a particular GPU model, CPU tier, memory amount or laptop specification as a guaranteed 4K/60 solution without testing it.

A 4K monitor is relevant only if your current display cannot show 3840×2160. The game’s 4K capability does not establish that a particular monitor is required, and purchasing one cannot guarantee smooth frame delivery; the computer still has to render each frame consistently.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Changing resolution and quality simultaneously: you cannot tell which change fixed the problem.
  • Using one benchmark as a promise: the DSOGaming result belongs to its specific simulated dual-core configuration and should not be generalized.
  • Chasing an average FPS number: uneven frame times can feel jerky even when the average is near 60.
  • Lowering every setting immediately: targeted reductions preserve more of the 4K image.
  • Assuming anti-aliasing has a universal best mode: FXAA, SMAA and TAA involve different visual compromises, and no comparative test here establishes a single winner.
  • Ignoring laptop GPU selection: integrated graphics can be used accidentally unless the game is assigned to the dedicated processor.
  • Forgetting to restart: some changes may not take effect until the game is relaunched.

A practical final configuration method

Use 3840×2160 as the fixed starting point, select high quality, and test a demanding repeatable section. If pacing is uneven, reduce reflections, shadows and ambient occlusion individually; then test environment and vehicle LOD where distant scenery or traffic is the trigger. Adjust textures only if those changes are not enough, and choose FXAA, SMAA or TAA by inspecting moving edges on your own display. This produces a configuration tied to your hardware and your visual tolerance rather than an unverified “best” preset.
