VC (Virtual Currency) is NBA 2K27’s cross-mode currency. You can earn it through connected MyCAREER progression and online matches, or buy it with real money. It can fund MyPLAYER attributes, animation packages, apparel and other virtual goods, and it can also be used for MyTEAM packs. The sensible choice depends on your goal: spend first on functionality for a competitive MyCAREER build, reserve cosmetic purchases for when you have surplus VC, and treat packs as uncertain content rather than a guaranteed upgrade.
VC is not the same as MyTEAM Points (MTP). MTP is earned and spent only within MyTEAM, while VC works across supported parts of the game. The official support guidance also says you must be connected to the internet for VC or MTP to accrue.
What VC does in NBA 2K27
2K Support describes VC as “Virtual Currency, which you can earn throughout the various game modes in NBA 2K to spend on a wide variety of content throughout the game.” In practical terms, it is the currency tied to your broader NBA 2K27 account experience rather than to one individual mode.

VC can be earned through gameplay and connected progression, but 2K also offers a paid route. Buying VC may save play time, yet it is optional: the official explanation identifies both earning in-game and purchasing with real money without stating that payment is required for progression.

The game launched worldwide on September 4, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC through Steam and Nintendo Switch 2, according to the publisher’s availability announcement. Menus and storefront offers can differ by platform and region, so use the store attached to your copy of NBA 2K27 for the current details.
VC and MTP: the currencies are not interchangeable
Confusing these balances is one of the easiest ways to plan a purchase incorrectly. MyTEAM Points are a mode-specific currency; VC is the broader currency used in supported areas of NBA 2K27.

MTP does not make VC unnecessary, and VC does not replace MTP for MyTEAM activities that require points. Check the currency label on the confirmation screen before accepting a transaction.
How to earn VC in NBA 2K27
The official support page names two broad gameplay routes: connected progression through MyCAREER and online matches. It does not publish a current VC-per-hour figure or certify one route as the fastest. Treat these as supported ways to accrue VC, not as a guaranteed efficiency ranking.
1. Keep MyCAREER progression connected
MyCAREER progression is an official earning route when the game is connected. Play the career content available to your account, complete the progression activities presented in the mode and allow the game to record the result online. Because the support guidance ties accrual to an internet connection, an offline session should not be treated as a reliable way to build a VC balance.

2. Play online matches
Online matches are another route identified by 2K Support. The exact reward can depend on the current mode, result and live rules, so inspect the reward information shown in-game rather than assuming every match pays the same amount. Connection quality and service availability can also affect whether a result is recorded correctly.
3. Check the live objectives and reward panels
NBA 2K27 can present rotating objectives, events or bonuses. Their names, requirements and values can change, and the available material does not establish a permanent quest or daily activity. Before committing time, open the current objective or event panel and verify:

- the requirement and completion window;
- the reward type (VC, MTP or another item);
- whether the activity requires an online connection or a particular mode; and
- any claim deadline or conditions shown on screen.
This habit prevents an old guide or social-media post from being mistaken for a current reward. It also keeps your play aligned with the mode you already enjoy instead of chasing an unverified “best grind.”
4. Use a simple earning routine
- Connect NBA 2K27 before starting the session.
- Choose MyCAREER progression or an online match, the two routes explicitly identified by 2K Support.
- Review the in-game reward or objective panel so you know which currency is being offered.
- Finish the activity and wait for the result and balance update to appear.
- If the balance does not update, return to a stable connection, restart the game only after the result has been recorded where possible, and check the mode’s transaction or reward history before repeating the activity.
No official source in the current guidance supplies a universal hourly rate, a guaranteed payout for a particular quest or event, or a tested fastest route. Any claim that one activity always beats every other activity should therefore be treated as a personal strategy, not an established NBA 2K27 fact.
How to spend VC wisely
“Wisely” means matching the purchase to the result you want. The official support examples fall into three practical goals: improving a MyCAREER player, changing appearance or equipment, and obtaining MyTEAM content.

Goal 1: improve MyCAREER performance
Attributes and animation packages are functional purchases. Attributes affect the capabilities of your MyPLAYER, while animations change how actions such as shots, dribble moves or finishes are performed. If you regularly play MyCAREER or online modes with the same build, these categories generally have more durable utility than a cosmetic item because they affect how that player performs.
Do not buy an upgrade merely because you have enough VC. First check the requirement, the displayed price and whether the change applies to the build you actually use. Some upgrades may be locked behind progression or other conditions shown by the game. Since the available sources do not provide attribute prices or a specific build cost, the number on your own upgrade screen is the authoritative figure for your account.
Goal 2: customize appearance
Apparel, uniforms, equipment and other virtual goods are appearance-focused categories listed by 2K Support. They can be the right choice when self-expression is your priority, but they do not substitute for attributes or animations when your aim is on-court performance.
Before confirming a cosmetic purchase, consider how often you will use it and whether it is tied to one mode, outfit or character. Cosmetic items are optional, so setting aside a fixed portion of earned VC can prevent them from consuming the balance you intended for a functional upgrade.
Goal 3: open MyTEAM packs
VC can be used to open MyTEAM packs, while MTP is the separate mode currency used for MyTEAM purchases such as player cards, packs and specified card boxes. A pack is a chance-based content purchase: the official guidance does not promise a particular player, tier or lineup improvement. Read the pack contents and any odds or disclosures displayed in your current MyTEAM store before spending.

If your objective is a specific lineup need, compare the certainty of a directly displayed item or upgrade with the uncertainty of a pack. The sources do not establish expected values, pack odds or a mathematical winner, so do not treat a pack as guaranteed value.

A practical VC priority order
Players often ask what they should buy first. There is no universal order because a competitive MyCAREER player and a style-focused player value different outcomes. This framework makes the trade-off explicit without assuming prices that are not published.
- Define the immediate goal. Choose performance, appearance or MyTEAM content before opening a store page.
- Protect the functional budget. If your build still needs an attribute or animation, reserve enough VC for the upgrade displayed in-game.
- Use surplus for cosmetics. Apparel and equipment are sensible after essential build decisions are covered.
- Set a pack limit. Decide in advance how much uncertainty you are willing to accept in MyTEAM, and stop when that limit is reached.
- Recheck the currency. Confirm that the screen is charging VC or MTP as intended.
This is a decision method, not a promise that one category has a superior numerical return. NBA 2K27’s live economy can change, and the current item price and terms shown in your game take precedence over a general rule.

Common VC mistakes and how to avoid them
Spending VC while intending to use MTP
MyTEAM’s two currencies can appear near one another. Read the currency icon and amount on the final confirmation screen; MTP cannot fund MyCAREER attributes, and VC does not become MTP.
Grinding while disconnected
The official support guidance says internet access is required for VC or MTP to accrue. Check your connection and the game’s online status before a long session, and verify that the reward has posted before closing the game.

Opening a pack gives you the contents defined by the current offer, not a guaranteed player of your choice. Review the displayed information and use a direct purchase when certainty matters and one is available.
Using an expired promotion as a buying benchmark
The 10,000-VC preorder bonus ended with the September 4, 2026 cutoff, and the 75,000-VC Steam Season 1 entries were dated listings. Neither should be used to estimate what a current bundle costs or includes.
Following an unverified “fastest” method
