There is no honest single winner for every stage of Naruto and Sasuke’s story. In the first major Final Valley fight, Sasuke has the better immediate result: Naruto is unconscious while Sasuke remains standing. In their final duel, both wield Six Paths power, exhaust their chakra and continue fighting hand to hand; the official account does not declare one categorically stronger.

The fairest answer is therefore milestone-specific. Compare the power each could access, how effectively each controlled it, the tactics shown in that encounter and the actual outcome. On that basis, Sasuke wins the first Final Valley encounter, while the final battle is best described as an unresolved contest between near-equals rather than a clean ranking.

What “stronger” means in this comparison

Power in Naruto is not presented as one permanent statistic. A character can have a larger reserve, a more dangerous transformation or a better counter to a particular technique, yet still lose because of control, timing or endurance. That matters especially for Naruto and Sasuke, whose abilities change dramatically between their first and last Final Valley meetings.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use four separate questions at every milestone:

  • Available power: Which enhanced state or source of chakra is active at that point?
  • Control and application: Can the fighter use that power accurately, defensively and for long enough to matter?
  • Matchup tactics: Does one fighter’s ability directly answer the other’s attacks?
  • Observed result: What actually happens when they fight, rather than what a character claims will happen?

This method prevents two common errors. First, a victory in one encounter is not automatically proof of superiority in every later or earlier state. Second, a character’s boast is not the same as a narrator’s ranking. Sasuke’s declaration that he is “THE STRONGEST IN THIS WORLD NOW” is dialogue spoken during the story, not an objective franchise-wide measurement.

Early rivalry: why the story does not provide a score

They begin as teammates, not as a settled ranking

The official Naruto retrospective describes Naruto and Sasuke’s relationship as a rivalry that develops inside their team. Their competition is consequential, but the recap does not assign a numerical advantage or identify one character as permanently stronger during this opening period. Their relative position changes as each responds to the other, so treating the earliest rivalry as a fixed leaderboard would add precision the source does not provide.

At this stage, “stronger” can also mean different things. A fighter may be more dangerous in a short exchange, more adaptable in a sparring match or more capable of surviving a particular technique. None of those categories is established as the definitive measure in the official summary. The defensible answer for the early period is therefore unresolved, not an assumed Naruto or Sasuke victory.

The hospital rooftop clash

The retrospective identifies a hospital rooftop confrontation that escalates from sparring. That episode is useful evidence of the rivalry’s direction, but the supplied official account does not turn it into a full comparative test with a stated winner, complete conditions or a lasting ranking. It should be read as a sign that the relationship has become dangerous, not as proof that one fighter has overtaken the other for the entire story.

This distinction is important when readers use isolated scenes as evidence. A confrontation can stop before a conclusive result, be interrupted by circumstances or reveal only one narrow matchup. Unless the official account records a clear outcome, the correct label is “no conclusive ranking,” even when the scene itself is dramatic.

The separation and divergent training paths

Sasuke later leaves the Hidden Leaf Village to join Orochimaru. After Sasuke’s departure, Naruto sets out with Jiraiya for training. This is a major structural change: they are no longer developing under the same immediate conditions, and each pursues a different route to greater capability.

The official recap uses that separation to explain the rivalry’s escalation, not to provide a comparative score for every intervening event. It does not establish that one training path makes its user categorically stronger at each intermediate point. A stage-by-stage article should therefore mark this period as divergent growth, ranking not established, rather than filling the gap with invented multipliers or assumed victories.

First Final Valley fight: Sasuke wins the encounter

The first major Final Valley battle is the clearest early comparison because the official retrospective describes both fighters’ enhanced states and the immediate result.

Sasuke’s Curse Mark and Sharingan

Sasuke allows his Curse Mark to spread and uses his powered-up Sharingan to read Naruto’s attacks. He advances to the Curse Mark’s second state. The Sharingan’s predictive use gives Sasuke a tactical answer to Naruto’s movement, while the Curse Mark supplies the transformation that raises the stakes of the confrontation.

Sasuke’s own motivation is expressed in the line, “IF THAT’S WHAT YOU THINK, THEN ALL I HAVE TO DO… …IS SEVER THAT BOND!” The quotation explains his purpose in the fight. It does not function as an impartial statement that he is stronger in every circumstance.

Naruto’s Nine Tails chakra

Naruto draws on the Nine Tails’ chakra. The official account specifically describes the cloak as helping him evade attacks, launch chakra-based counters and withstand Sasuke’s fire technique. Those details show that Naruto’s enhancement is not merely a larger reserve: it changes his speed, offense and defense at the same time.

That combination makes the fight a genuine contest rather than a one-sided demonstration. Naruto’s cloak answers several of Sasuke’s tools, while Sasuke’s Sharingan and Curse Mark let him read, withstand and escalate against Naruto’s attacks. The comparison is therefore best framed as two temporary power systems interacting under the conditions of one battle.

The signature attacks and immediate result

Both fighters eventually ready their signature attacks. The official retrospective concludes with Naruto unconscious and Sasuke standing in a daze. On the narrow question “Who won that Final Valley encounter?” the answer is Sasuke.

Calling Sasuke the encounter winner is stronger and more precise than saying he is universally stronger. The result records who remained standing at the end of this fight, with these particular transformations, tactics and circumstances. It does not establish how every earlier exchange would have ended, nor does it settle the much later confrontation after both characters acquire entirely different powers.

Why the first Final Valley result is not a permanent ranking

The early Final Valley outcome is sometimes used as if it were a franchise-wide statistic. The official material does not support that use. Both combatants rely on heightened states, and the account emphasizes what those states do in this encounter rather than assigning a fixed multiplier to either character.

Three limits follow from the evidence:

  • Temporary forms matter. The comparison is between Naruto using Nine Tails chakra and Sasuke using the Curse Mark and Sharingan, not between their unenhanced selves at every moment of the story.
  • Outcome and potential are different. Sasuke remains standing, which establishes the immediate result. It does not measure every possible version of Naruto or every future version of Sasuke.
  • No numeric scale is supplied. The official retrospectives provide no authoritative power levels, percentage advantage or multiplier that could be carried from this battle into another arc.

For a reader building a progression chart, the appropriate entry is therefore: Sasuke, by encounter outcome; universal superiority not proven.

The final duel: peak power without a simple winner

The concluding Final Valley confrontation is materially different from the first. The official finale retrospective describes Naruto and Sasuke as much stronger than at their previous meeting. Both possess power from the Sage of Six Paths, and the scale of their techniques expands accordingly.

Kurama and Susano’o

Naruto maintains his Kurama transformation using shadow clones. Sasuke makes Susano’o a vessel for gathered Tailed Beast chakra. The official description presents Kurama and Susano’o clashing, so the matchup is not simply a repeat of the earlier cloak-versus-curse-mark pattern. Each fighter now combines a major external power source with a large-scale combat form.

The difference in application is as important as the names of the forms. Naruto’s use of shadow clones helps sustain his transformation, while Sasuke concentrates gathered Tailed Beast chakra through Susano’o. These are tactical choices described in the official account, not evidence that one form is automatically superior in every category.

Both use Six Paths power

The official chapter summary says that both characters possess powers from the Sage of Six Paths. That shared foundation explains why the final fight resists a simple ranking. The story is not presenting an ordinary fighter against an unanswerable transformation; it is presenting two protagonists who have reached comparable narrative and combat stakes through different abilities.

One character may look more dominant during a particular exchange, but the cited summary does not convert those moments into a formal score. The comparison must stay tied to what the fight actually establishes: both have access to Six Paths power, both can deploy enormous techniques and neither is described as categorically above the other by the narrator.

Strongest techniques, drained chakra and hand-to-hand combat

The official Naruto birthday retrospective identifies the final confrontation with chapters 692–697 in Naruto Volume 72. Its account says that both release their strongest moves and drain their chakra. The match remains unsettled after those attacks, then shifts into hand-to-hand combat. Each fighter draws on his last reserves for one final strike.

This sequence matters because it supplies an endurance result as well as a spectacle. Their most powerful techniques do not end the contest with one fighter untouched. Instead, both are exhausted enough to continue without the same reserves and must rely on direct combat. The official account frames the battle as an all-out contest that keeps going after the headline techniques have been spent.

What the final duel proves

The final duel proves that Naruto and Sasuke are operating at closely matched peak stakes in that confrontation. It demonstrates access to comparable Six Paths-level escalation, opposing large-scale forms and enough resilience to continue after their strongest attacks.

It does not provide a clean statement that Naruto is stronger, that Sasuke is stronger or that the battle should be recorded as a universal draw across every possible condition. The official summary simply does not make that ranking. The most accurate label is no categorical winner by strength; the encounter remains an exhausted, continuing contest before the final exchange.

How to answer “who is stronger?” without overclaiming

When someone asks for one name, first identify which kind of answer they want. The following distinctions keep the answer aligned with the story’s evidence.

If they mean the first Final Valley result

Say Sasuke. He is the fighter left standing while Naruto is unconscious. Add the scope immediately: this is the result of that encounter while Sasuke uses the Curse Mark and Naruto uses Nine Tails chakra.

If they mean the final versions of both characters

Do not name a categorical winner based on the official recaps. Both wield Six Paths power, Kurama and Susano’o are directly opposed, their strongest techniques drain their chakra and the fight proceeds into hand-to-hand combat. The documented comparison is a closely matched, unresolved peak battle.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If they mean every arc between those fights

State that the available official retrospectives do not establish a complete point-by-point chart. The early rivalry, hospital rooftop clash and separation are described as story development, but no direct comparative score is supplied for each intervening milestone.

If they mean raw potential rather than the recorded outcome

Separate potential from result. The first fight gives Sasuke the immediate win; the final fight gives neither a narrator-certified superiority claim. Without an official numeric scale, assigning percentages or multipliers would be speculation rather than analysis.

What the official material does not establish

A careful comparison also needs clear boundaries. The cited official retrospectives are selective. They support the two Final Valley comparisons and a concise account of the earlier rivalry, but they do not provide all of the following:

  • A complete winner for every original-series arc.
  • A numeric strength statistic, transformation multiplier or percentage gap.
  • A definitive ranking for every intermediate training stage.
  • A full comparison of later post-series or Boruto-era states.
  • A universal rule that an encounter winner remains stronger in every different matchup.

These omissions are not flaws in the story’s presentation; they are limits on what can be claimed from the cited material. A responsible progression guide should mark unsupported stages as unresolved instead of treating fan calculations, isolated boasts or unrelated battles as official rankings.

Where to read the final confrontation

The official site identifies Naruto Volume 72 as the manga volume containing chapters 692–697, the chapters most directly tied to the final showdown. That chapter-and-volume reference is a manga identifier, not an anime episode number. Keeping the formats separate avoids accidentally presenting a volume range as an episode list.

The volume is useful for readers who want the complete sequence behind the comparison: the Six Paths power-up, the Kurama-versus-Susano’o clash, the chakra exhaustion, the hand-to-hand continuation and the final exchange. It should be treated as the source for that confrontation’s events, not as a published statistical ranking of Naruto and Sasuke.

Final verdict

Naruto and Sasuke do not have one character who is officially stronger at every point in the story. Their early rivalry and divergent training are not accompanied by a complete ranking. Sasuke wins the first major Final Valley battle by the immediate result, with Naruto unconscious and Sasuke still standing. By the final duel, both have Six Paths power, both deploy their defining large-scale forms and both exhaust themselves before continuing hand to hand. The official account leaves that peak comparison without a simple strength verdict.
