A collection of key franchise moments
NARUTO X BORUTO Ultimate Ninja STORM CONNECTIONS is described by Bandai Namco as a collection of key moments from the STORM franchise. That wording matters: it tells you the game is designed to gather important material from the series, but it does not promise that every episode, scene or battle from the anime appears in full. Treat it as a curated STORM overview, not as evidence that all Naruto games are complete anime adaptations.
Two distinct story components
The official product page lists a History Mode and an original Special Story Mode involving Boruto. History Mode is the part to look for when your priority is revisiting major STORM-era story moments. The Special Story is additional, original material set around Boruto, so it is not simply another label for the historical recap.
This combination makes CONNECTIONS a practical starting point for someone who wants both retrospective saga coverage and a new Boruto-focused scenario. Those lists are not interchangeable. The product page describes the broader platform availability, while the store page describes physical standard-edition inventory. A physical listing for one console does not prove that another platform lacks a digital version, and store stock can change by region and date. Check the live listing for your country and the exact edition before buying.
What makes SHINOBI STRIKER a different kind of Naruto game?
Online multiplayer is the center of the design
Bandai Namco describes NARUTO TO BORUTO: SHINOBI STRIKER as an online multiplayer action game. Its defining match format is four-versus-four team combat: eight ninjas fight simultaneously. That is a fundamentally different organizing idea from the STORM series’ official story-saga framing.
If you want to reenact major Naruto and Boruto moments on your own, an online team-action game is answering a different question. SHINOBI STRIKER is aimed at coordinated matches in which your team’s performance and the live battle matter more than moving through a curated account of the anime’s plot. Other titles may use different genres or release models, so apply the same questions—story coverage, match format, online emphasis and platform—to any game outside the two examples above.

Which Naruto game should you play for the story?
Pick CONNECTIONS for a single, modern STORM starting point
Start with CONNECTIONS if you want one currently listed game that gathers key STORM moments, provides a History Mode and adds an original Boruto Special Story Mode. It is the most direct answer to “Which Naruto game puts story material first?” among the titles covered here.

Do not choose SHINOBI STRIKER as a story substitute

Using player count as a minor detail
For SHINOBI STRIKER, four-versus-four play and eight simultaneous ninjas define the experience. For STORM, the official framing is the saga and anime-style fighting. Match format should therefore be one of your first filters, alongside story coverage and platform.
