Most myQ garage devices require 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, but not every myQ product does. The myQ Video Keypad and myQ Cameras support both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, according to their product guidance. Check the requirements for your exact model before changing your router settings.
Which myQ devices need 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi?
Chamberlain Group’s general myQ Wi-Fi network requirements say most myQ garage devices connect over 2.4 GHz. A network that offers only 5 GHz will prevent most devices covered by that guidance from connecting.
There are product-specific exceptions: myQ’s Video Keypad FAQ and camera network requirements list support for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Because myQ includes different product types, do not assume one model’s Wi-Fi specifications apply to another.
What if my router shows only one Wi-Fi name?
A single network name can be used for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. It does not mean the 2.4 GHz band is missing. Check the router’s wireless settings to confirm that 2.4 GHz is enabled; if the settings are unclear, ask your internet provider or router maker.

If your router instead broadcasts separate names for each band, choose the 2.4 GHz network when setting up a device that requires it. myQ’s Wi-Fi garage door opener setup guidance covers selecting the appropriate band and networks with combined names.
Check these requirements if setup fails
For a Smart Garage Hub or Smart Garage Control, myQ’s setup guidance lists a 2.4 GHz network, a strong signal in the garage, the Wi-Fi name and password, the myQ app on a smartphone, and a compatible opener as prerequisites. For a Wi-Fi garage door opener, the setup instructions call for a strong 2.4 GHz signal, Wi-Fi credentials, and Bluetooth enabled on the phone during setup.

If the correct band is available but setup or communication still fails, use the router checks in myQ’s network requirements and router settings:

- Network visibility: The network should be visible to the device during setup.
- Security: The guidance recommends WPA2 Personal or WPA3 Personal.
- Address assignment: DHCP should be enabled.
- Wireless modes: The router should support 802.11 b/g/n.
- Communication: myQ devices use TCP port 8883 to communicate with myQ servers.
These are troubleshooting checks, not substitutes for confirming that your particular device supports the network band you are using.

When can a Wi-Fi extender help?
An extender may help if the signal is weak where the myQ device is installed. The Video Keypad FAQ says an extender may be needed if the keypad’s Wi-Fi signal remains low. Improving coverage can address a signal problem, but it cannot make a 5 GHz-only network compatible with a device that requires 2.4 GHz.
