Ryoko Pro is a battery-powered 4G LTE hotspot, not a miniature broadband connection. It creates a private Wi-Fi network for up to 10 devices by connecting to mobile data through its included Viaota SIM or a compatible local SIM.

That makes it useful for travel, backup connectivity, and sharing one cellular connection between a phone, laptop, and tablet. However, its real-world usefulness depends on local 4G coverage, the data plan, battery life, and Ryoko’s fair-use rules. The “Unlimited” label does not mean unlimited full-speed data.

Ryoko Pro specifications at a glance

Feature What Ryoko’s support documentation says
Network 4G LTE mobile hotspot
Maximum connected devices 10
Advertised maximum speed Up to 150 Mb/s, depending on network conditions
Dimensions 101.4 × 61 × 14.5 mm
Battery Approximately up to 8 hours
SIM Pre-installed prepaid Viaota SIM, with local-SIM support
Management Viaota portal and local web interface

The 150 Mb/s figure is a theoretical or best-case claim rather than a speed guarantee. Congestion, signal strength, the local carrier, building materials, and your plan can all produce much lower results. In weak-signal areas, the limiting factor is usually the cellular network—not the Wi-Fi connection between your device and the Ryoko.

What you get and how the service works

The current support documentation describes a device with a physical, pre-installed Viaota SIM. You do not need a separate mobile app to start using it. Subscription and data management are handled through my.viaota.com.

Ryoko Pro Portable WiFi Travel Router, 15GB Free Data
  • 15 GB Global Data Included – One data plan works in 150+ countries with no roaming fees, so you pay one simple price wherever you travel.
  • Mobile Hotspot for 10 Devices – This mobile hotspot shares one connection across phones, laptops and tablets, with free hotspotting for the whole family or team.
  • Fast Internet on the Go – A fast internet connection for browsing, email, video calls, maps and streaming while you are away from home.
  • Pocket-Size MiFi Design – A pocket wifi device, lightweight with up to 8 hours of battery, made for travel, road trips and remote work.
  • Easy Setup and Ad Blocker – Simple to connect with a user-friendly interface, plus a built-in ad blocker to help reduce clutter and data use.

Ryoko also allows a compatible local carrier SIM. To swap it:

  1. Power off the Ryoko Pro.
  2. Open the SIM slot with the supplied SIM pin.
  3. Insert the local SIM in the correct orientation.
  4. Power the device back on.

This option can be valuable in countries where prepaid local data is inexpensive. There is a trade-off: Viaota-specific features, including on-screen usage information and the built-in ad blocker, may not work with a different SIM.

Be careful with product descriptions that mention a global eSIM, 16-hour battery life, or WPA3. Those claims appear on some newer sales pages, but they conflict with the current Ryoko support FAQ, which describes a physical SIM and approximately 8 hours of battery life. Check the exact hardware and plan being sold rather than assuming every product branded “Ryoko Pro” has identical specifications.

Setup: connecting your first device

The initial setup is straightforward, but the cellular registration step can take longer than connecting to the Wi-Fi network.

  1. Press and hold the Power button until the display turns on.
  2. Read the screen for the Wi-Fi Name, Pass, and QR code.
  3. Open Wi-Fi settings on your phone, laptop, or tablet.
  4. Select the network name displayed by the Ryoko.
  5. Enter the displayed password or scan the QR code.
  6. Wait until the 4G icon turns green. That indicates the cellular connection is ready.

Your phone can connect to the Ryoko’s Wi-Fi before the hotspot has working internet. A first connection, or a connection after crossing a border, may take several minutes. If the screen says “waiting for network”, Ryoko advises waiting at least 15 minutes. Its broader first-use troubleshooting guidance says to leave the device running for up to 30 minutes in some first-use or long-idle situations.

Browser controls and factory reset

Ryoko Pro has a local administration page. This is useful when you need to check signal information, view data usage, change the Wi-Fi name, update the password, or inspect connected devices.

  1. Connect your phone or computer to the Ryoko’s Wi-Fi network.
  2. Open a browser, even if the Ryoko currently has no internet access.
  3. Enter http://192.168.0.1 in the address bar.
  4. Sign in with username admin and password admin.

A laptop or desktop browser is preferable because some settings may not appear in the mobile version of the interface. Change the default administrator password if the interface allows it, especially if you use the device in shared or public environments.

To restore the factory settings, use:

Device settings → Reset → Reset → Yes

The device will restart and erase its customized settings.

Battery life, charging, and heat

The USB-C charging port is on the bottom of the device. Ryoko recommends charging it for at least two hours, or until full, before use. A red light appears on the Ryoko name while it is charging. The advertised runtime is up to 8 hours, so expect less in conditions involving weak signal, sustained downloads, high traffic, or multiple connected devices.

Heat is a more practical concern during extended use. Streaming, large downloads, several connected devices, direct sunlight, and weak cellular signal can all increase the workload. Keeping the hotspot in a pocket, bag, car compartment, or other enclosed space makes cooling worse. Place it on a hard, ventilated surface and let it cool if it becomes very hot. Excessive heat can cause disconnections or an automatic shutdown.

The biggest catch: “Unlimited” data has limits

Ryoko’s fair-use policy says its Unlimited plans may be throttled after 15 GB in a monthly billing cycle. Around 65 GB, or repeated heavy use after throttling, can lead to further restrictions, suspension, or termination following review.

That changes how the product should be judged. Ryoko Pro is suitable for maps, email, browsing, messaging, remote work, and moderate media use while travelling. It is not a dependable substitute for a home fiber or cable connection if you regularly stream at high resolution, download large games, run backups, use torrents, or connect a household full-time.

The policy also identifies behavior such as continuous downloads, P2P traffic, SIM farming, resale, and permanent home-broadband use as problematic. Monitor usage through the Viaota portal instead of treating “Unlimited” as a license for unrestricted consumption.

Common problems and practical fixes

Problem What to check
“Waiting for network” Move outside a basement or enclosed area, place the device near a window, confirm the plan is active, wait 15–30 minutes during first use, then restart it.
Connected to Wi-Fi but no internet Confirm the 4G icon is green, check remaining data, verify the SSID and password, inspect signal bars, and move to a stronger-signal location.
Some apps or sites fail The Viaota SIM may provide a European IP address. Use a VPN on the phone or computer if a site requires a local IP.
Sudden speed reduction Check whether usage has passed the 15 GB fair-use threshold or whether heavy traffic has triggered further restrictions.
Overheating or disconnecting Remove it from a pocket, bag, direct sunlight, or enclosed space. Place it on a cool, ventilated surface and allow it to cool.

The IP-location issue deserves particular attention. A private Wi-Fi network is not the same as a VPN. Ryoko Pro cannot run a VPN itself; a VPN must be installed and configured separately on each connected device. Without one, banking services, streaming platforms, and local websites may identify you as being in the wrong country.

Cancellation ends future renewals but does not normally terminate the already-paid period immediately. The subscription remains active until that period ends.

Do not confuse cancellation with a refund. Ryoko’s subscription-refund policy says charges are non-refundable once processed, including six-month subscription charges. Review the billing terms before selecting a longer plan.

Is Ryoko Pro good value?

The answer depends on what you are buying it for. The hardware is convenient because it consolidates connectivity for several devices and avoids repeatedly tethering a phone. The screen displays the network details directly, setup requires no separate app, and the local-SIM option gives experienced travelers more flexibility.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Its weaknesses are equally clear:

  • It depends entirely on available 4G coverage.
  • The approximately 8-hour battery figure requires regular charging.
  • It can run hot during sustained use.
  • The Viaota SIM may produce an inconvenient foreign IP address.
  • “Unlimited” data can be throttled after 15 GB.
  • The ongoing subscription is part of the ownership cost.

For occasional travel, a local SIM may offer better value if the device is unlocked and the carrier is compatible. For a user who wants instant service without researching local carriers, Viaota is more convenient. Neither option guarantees a particular speed or coverage level.

FAQ

Is Ryoko Pro a Wi-Fi router or a mobile hotspot?

It is a 4G LTE mobile hotspot. It creates a private Wi-Fi network, but its internet connection comes from cellular data through the included Viaota SIM or a compatible local SIM.

How many devices can connect to Ryoko Pro?

Ryoko advertises support for up to 10 connected devices. Actual performance will depend on the available cellular signal, data plan, and what those devices are doing.

Does Ryoko Pro provide unlimited full-speed data?

No. Ryoko’s fair-use policy says Unlimited plans may be throttled after 15 GB in a monthly billing cycle, with stronger restrictions possible after very high or repeated heavy usage.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can Ryoko Pro use a local SIM card?

Yes, provided the SIM is compatible. Power off the device, open the SIM slot with the supplied pin, insert the SIM correctly, and restart it. Some Viaota-only features may not work with a local SIM.

The Bottom Line

Ryoko Pro is a practical travel hotspot, especially for connecting several devices without relying on phone tethering. Its hardware is compact, the setup is simple, and local-SIM support can make it more flexible.

It is not a replacement for home broadband, a guaranteed high-speed connection, or a VPN. The approximately 8-hour battery, heat under load, possible foreign IP address, and 15 GB fair-use threshold are important limitations. I would recommend it for moderate travel connectivity—not for unrestricted streaming, permanent home use, or anyone expecting “Unlimited” to mean unlimited full-speed data.
