In Ismar Hrnjicevic’s personal homelab, Jellyfin is the standout: the author calls it both the most-used and most-beloved service. The rest of the visible lineup covers media organization, fitness logs, smart-home controls, DNS filtering, and a local photo library. This is one person’s account, not a tested ranking of every self-hosted service.
What this homelab setup is—and isn’t
Hrnjicevic describes a setup that began with an old laptop and a hard drive, then grew over time. The available account names several services but does not provide numbered ranks for them. Jellyfin is the only service given a clear top spot by personal preference; the others are best understood by the tasks they handle.
The visible text ends at a heading about services that keep the homelab running in the background. It does not establish the full inventory, so the services below are the named portion rather than a complete list.

Jellyfin: the author’s favorite
Jellyfin streams the author’s organized shows, movies, and music to a TV, phone, laptop, and desktop PC. Hrnjicevic says media streaming was the reason for starting the homelab and describes Jellyfin as the setup’s most-used and most-beloved service. That makes it the clear favorite in this account, without establishing a numerical rank for the rest.

- Entry-level NAS Personal Storage:UGREEN NAS DH2300 is your first and best NAS made easy. It is designed for beginners who want a simple, private way to store videos, photos and personal files, which is intuitive for users moving from cloud storage or external drives and move away from scattered date across devices. This entry-level NAS 2-bay perfect for personal entertainment, photo storage, and easy data backup (doesn't support Docker or virtual machines).
- Set Your Devices Free, Expand Your Digital World: This unified storage hub supports massive capacity up to 64TB.*Storage drives not included. Stop Deleting, Start Storing. UGREEN NAS is a better way to free up storage across all your devices such as phones, computers, tablets and also does automatic backups across devices regardless of the operating system—Window, iOS, Android or macOS.
- The Smarter Long-term Way to Store: Unlike cloud storage with recurring monthly fees, a UGREEN NAS enclosure requires only a one-time purchase for long-term use. For example, you only need to pay $459.98 for a NAS, while for cloud storage, you need to pay $719.88 per year, $2,159.64 for 3 years, $3,599.40 for 5 years. You will save $6,738.82 over 10 years with UGREEN NAS! *NAS cost based on DH2300 + 12TB HDD; cloud cost based on 12TB plan (e.g. $59.99/month).
- Blazing Speed, Minimal Power: Equipped with a high-performance processor, 1GbE port, and 4GB RAM on Board, this NAS handles multiple tasks with ease. File transfers reach up to 125MB/s—a 1GB file takes only 8 seconds. Don't let slow clouds hold you back; they often need over 100 seconds for the same task. The difference is clear.
- Let AI Better Organize Your Memories: UGREEN NAS uses AI to tag faces, locations, texts, and objects—so you can effortlessly find any photo by searching for who or what's in it in seconds. It also automatically finds and deletes similar or duplicate photo, backs up live photos and allows you to share them with your friends or family with just one tap. Everything stays effortlessly organized, powered by intelligent tagging and recognition.
The *arr stack: organizing media files
Hrnjicevic groups Sonarr, Radarr, Lidarr, and Bazarr as the “*arr stack”: Sonarr is used for TV shows, Radarr for movies, Lidarr for music, and Bazarr for subtitles. The author says they help organize media and create consistent filenames and folder structures. These are the author’s described uses, not independently tested results.
Immich: a local photo and video library
Immich is used to organize and search a photo and video library hosted on the author’s own hardware. Hrnjicevic cites a full Google account and a preference for keeping private photos locally as the reasons for this approach, and reports buying a 6 TB hard drive for the collection. That capacity is one person’s purchase, not a general sizing recommendation; the account does not specify the drive’s type or model.

Services for activity, home controls, and DNS
Endurain and FitoTrack: a route from phone to browser
Endurain is the author’s self-hosted place to store and view training data in a browser. Because the author says Endurain lacks an integrated app, they use FitoTrack on Android to export runs as GPX files, then import those files into Endurain.
Home Assistant: automating lights
Hrnjicevic uses Home Assistant to control and automate smart-home devices. In the described setup, Tuya-compatible bulbs are made local through the Tuya Local integration, and scanning NFC tags with a phone triggers lights. The account does not identify bulb or tag models.

AdGuard Home: filtering DNS requests
AdGuard Home acts as a DNS sinkhole, using blocklists to filter unwanted traffic such as trackers and telemetry. The author moved DNS work from the router to a faster NAS and configured the router as alternate DNS in case the NAS is unavailable. Hrnjicevic says browsing felt faster, but gives no measured benchmark; that speed claim is personal experience.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to read the “ranked” part
The title suggests an ordered ranking, but the available account does not show numbered positions or a consistent comparison across services. The supported takeaway is narrower: these tools address distinct jobs, while Jellyfin is the author’s stated favorite. Their usefulness to another homelab owner depends on whether that person wants those particular capabilities and has suitable local hardware.
