Murder Your Friends is a coming-soon asymmetric horror party game from Friendslop Studios. It is not a released free Steam game: Steam currently marks it “Coming soon” and says, “This game is not yet available on Steam.” Playtests are being run through the developer’s Discord, where players can join the invite list, find lobbies and receive new builds.
What is Murder Your Friends?
Each short round turns one member of your group into “The Guest,” a masked killer equipped with a knife and cruel toys. Everyone else must search a locked mansion, find a way out and stay alive. The betrayal is the central idea: the person sitting in your voice chat may secretly be hunting everyone else.
The game fits the informal “friendslop” label: social co-op designed for chaotic sessions with people you know, where voice chat, improvised teamwork and sabotage matter as much as mechanical skill. Friendslop is an editorial description rather than an official Steam category.
How a round works
Survivors search for the real exit
The mansion contains several possible search locations, including wardrobes, chests, sofas and toilets. The key’s location rotates, so a route that worked in one round may be useless in the next. Five apparent exits are available, but only two are real, forcing survivors to divide their attention and make risky decisions.

Steam lists six playable survivors, hiding places, changing loot and a mansion that can vary between rounds. Physics-based throwables add another layer of improvisation, while ghost spectating lets eliminated players watch the rest of the round.
The Guest weaponizes information
Voice chat is always active and proximity-based. Friends can coordinate when they are close, but distance breaks up conversations; walls muffle voices, and the killer can hear what players do. Talking loudly, splitting up or revealing a hiding place can therefore become a tactical mistake rather than harmless banter.

The killer’s tools are designed to disrupt a group rather than simply deliver damage:
- Bear traps punish predictable routes.
- A cymbal-monkey alarm can expose movement.
- Handcuffs chain survivors together.
- An exit-sealing ritual can remove an escape option.
- A phone call reveals a player who is hiding.
Survivors have disruptive tools too
Survivors can stall or distract The Guest with the Cup Game, Trauma Dump, Karen Doll, rope nets, medicine balls and objects they can throw. These tools are most useful when players communicate under pressure: one person can draw the killer away while another searches, rescues a restrained teammate or tests an apparent exit.

Why the voice system matters
Proximity voice is not an optional layer placed over a conventional multiplayer game. It is part of the rules. Teammates must decide when to whisper plans, when to move together and when to risk separating. Because walls muffle voices and the killer hears player activity, the mansion itself becomes an information system. A survivor may hear a friend nearby without knowing whether that friend is still trustworthy.
This design also explains why the game is aimed at groups of friends. The strongest moments are likely to come from incomplete information: a warning that arrives too late, a teammate who sounds suspicious, or a frantic attempt to identify the two genuine exits before The Guest closes them off.

Is the free Steam demo available?
No generally available free demo or released version is confirmed. Steam’s listing remains “Coming soon,” has no user reviews and explicitly states that the game is not yet available on Steam. There is also no authoritative fixed release date, price, sales figure or concurrent-player statistic established for the title.
That distinction matters: the current playable route is a playtest, not a full free-to-play launch. Access can change as the developers update builds or manage invitations.

How to join the playtest
- Open the official Murder Your Friends listing on Steam and confirm that its availability status has not changed.
- Follow the listing’s direction to the Friendslop Studios Discord community.
- Use the Discord invite or playtest channel to join the invite list and check the current build requirements.
- Look for a lobby in the community, then launch the supplied Steam playtest build when access is granted.
Because invitations, builds and lobby activity can change, the Steam page and the developer’s Discord are the authoritative places to verify access at the time you want to play.
What makes it promising for a group?

- No confirmed price or permanent free-to-play status is listed.
- No review score, sales total or player-count benchmark is available.
- Playtest access and build availability may change through Discord.
For now, Murder Your Friends is best understood as an experimental, coming-soon Steam party-horror title with an active community playtest—not as a finished free game anyone can download from Steam today.
